Wonderful place to visit!! Miss Teresa was an absolute joy during our tour of the old tavern. She is such a sweet lady and really made our visit special. She made a sweet gesture for our son for his 13th birthday that was falling on the day after our visit. This will be something that he will remember forever and I hope she knows how much it meant to my son. Its easy to tell she loves what she does! The ladies working in the artillery and silver shops were wonderful and kind as well. Just an all around wonderful place. We had a late lunch at the tavern. They had the best fried chicken that I believe Ive ever had! I was too full to eat the dessert, I hear the peach cobbler is wonderful. Great meal!!

We were recommended to go to Michie Tavern by the Charlottesville Visitor Center. We were a bit underwhelmed by the overall experience. We werent originally told that it was a buffet and we probably wouldnt have gone if we knew it was $18/person as neither my wife nor I eat a lot of food. The food, however, was pretty good (even though there are limited options). The staff was super friendly and helpful. They are very attentive to your needs at the table and offered many times to get us a second plate or drink refills. We also enjoyed the atmosphere before heading to Monticello. A good stop if youre not concerned with price or if youre really hungry and can destroy a buffet!

OK - the food was good, Ill admit that. (Had it been average, the rating would have been 1 star). And, I could have loaded the whole family back into the car and driven 10 miles to another restaurant, but I was stupid and waited until the kids were hungry already, and some battles arent worth fighting. When I saw the price-tag of $17 for an adult and $7 for children 6-11, I knew I was going to regret it. Then, the thieves had the gall to add $2 a drink on top of the already outrageous lunch price. All I can say is - if you decide to go, at least go knowing youre going to have your pocket picked!

A great place to bring out of towners! The fried chicken is indeed quite good as are the sides. If youd prefer baked chicken theyve got that, there is also pulled pork. Bring your appetite because its an all you can eat place! Dessert isnt included but it is good. Or head over to the country store and enjoy candy that you havent seen since your childhood. Theres plenty to see and do here. I recommend grabbing lunch here and then going to Montecello. This way youll walk off your lunch! I would have given 5 stars, but it is expensive and its very touristy.

The food was such a disappointment. While the fried and baked chicken were good, they were the ONLY food offerings that did not come out of a can or a boxed powdered mix. It was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I have had in many years. While the service staff was pleasant, we were not paying for people to be pleasant, we were paying for editable food. The drive to Charlottesville in October is beautiful and we will go again but NEVER again eat at Michie Tavern.

The food is NOT worth the prices just as a warning. The service is amazing and the history is such a treat. If you are looking for history take the tour and forgo the crazy over priced food. If you want to eat at a real colonial tavern and dont care if you can get the same kind, style, and type of food for $5 a person instead of $17 somewhere else, then have at it! Or just get just the dessert, which was amazing and well worth the price and a nice treat after the tour.

Visited this place after visiting nearby Monticello. I love the Colonial Ambiance and the Woodwork inside. Staff also wears costumes appropriate to the 1800s. The Restaurant is an all You can eat Buffet and although the selections are limited, they have the Best Fried Chicken I ever had. The Sweet Tea was refreshing. They have a General Store and I think theres also a Guided Tour on certain Days. Some day Ill definitely come back to try some more Fried Chicken.

When we first moved to Charlottesville over 12 years ago, Michie Tavern was one of the first places we discovered. The food is very good and is a southern style based on the type of food that was served back in Jeffersons day. Everyone is dressed in character and our favorite time is visiting when there is snow on the ground and a roaring fire. This is a must for anyone visiting the Charlottesville area.

The pulled pork is superb, and the staff were quite friendly. Overall though, it felt like an 18th century cafeteria where the gift shops were more the emphasis than any historical aspects of the building (which, is not even on the original site of the structure). I may go back for special events, but once was about enough for me, especially given the price for a meal, beer, and dessert (~$25/person).

Wow. Just wow. I had the privilege of coming here as part of a private event in the evening. We were treated to an incredible buffet which included the Taverns famous fried chicken. I dont think Ill be able to have fried chicken anywhere else again. It was juicy, yet crunchy, and full of flavor. The sides which included mashed potatoes, biscuits, and more, were all excellent as well.

As with all buffets, the food was just okay. Except for the fried chicken which is delicious and exceptionally moist, and I loved the peach cobbler. Service staff in period dress and the historic building make for an interesting and cozy meal. If not for the food, Mitchie Tavern is still a must-see if you are in the area. Plus those beautiful views!

Before you go you should know this: the restaurant is a buffet that costs about $18 a person and consists of fried chicken and basic vegetables. The vegetarian options are very limited. The building is pretty cool, but Im definitely not going back because of the price vs quality. Great for a visit, just know what youre getting yourself into.

The food is good, but its buffet style, which I wasnt expecting. They have a wide variety of vegetables and great fried chicken. The tavern "experience" is just so so. However, the tour is worthwhile. Note that the tavern wasnt originally located where it is presently. It was relocated to be on the main road to Monticello in the 1920s.

Our stop at Michie Tavern was an "add-on" coming back from Monticello. We loved it! The tavern and grounds were so much fun to tour. We bought lots of goodies in the various shops but the highlight was the food. OMG - Delicious! I am still thinking about the fried chicken and peach cobbler. None better.

Such a neat place it makes me wish to live in that time period! Missed out on the famed chicken but checked out the inn and other buildings. Great gift shops and specialty stores on site (historic weapons shop and a metalwork store). Very close to Monticello and other Charlottesville points of interest.

The food is probably worth 5 bucks total.. however my favorite part of the experience was our server Rebecca! She was the nicest lady I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! I will definitely be asking for her again. Our drinks were always full to the brim and our plates were never empty!
