Been using Downriver Canoe for years and they do a good job with renting canoes and floats and getting you transport to different South Fork access points. The operation is well run - if not laid-back - and the folks are friendly and helpful. However, on the downside, our most recent trip this past weekend, Downriver said the water quality and level were good . It was not. The river was covered by blue-green goo - bank to bank, mile after mile. As others on the river that day can attest, the algae bloom is massive in scale, fishing poor, and the health of the poor Shenandoah a national shame. Having visited the river for decades, this is the worst i have seen it. We do not fault Downriver for the state of the river, it is just that they misrepresented the conditions and took our money.

Our family had a great time on our short canoe trip with Downriver. It was getting late in the day, so we chose the short Hazard Mill trip, which involves being driven to the launch about 3 miles upstream and paddling back to the take out area across the river from their base of operations. Both gentlemen who helped us were extremely personable and informative. This part of the river was mostly calm, with a section of fun riffles that our thrilled 6-year-old treated like Class V rapids. The scenery is lovely and we saw many turtles, herons, etc. Downriver is easily accessible by car or hiking trail from Shenadoah River State Park. Highly recommended!

My Girlfriend and I used Down River for a 12 mi trip on Saturday 6/4. When we pulled up our shoulders dropped and a smile went across our faces. The places welcomes you and so does their employees. Especially our driver **Bob ** who shared our trips enthusiasm as if he was going along. He pointed out river dangers (water very high that weekend) how to stay safe and have fun. If you are in DC looking for a day trip on the water you wont be disappointed in Down River - Rick

I would give Downriver Canoe 10 stars if I could. They are such a pleasurable company to deal with from the moment you pull up and their friendly greetings to helping you unload the canoes at the end of the trip. Ive taken quite a few trips down the Shenandoah and have never had a bad experience with any of the companies but prefer Downriver just because of they seem to go the extra mile to make sure you have a pleasurable experience. Highly recommend!!

Great tubing and on the edge of the Shenandoah river state park! We walked there from the cabins (~two miles), tubes for three hours, then walked back. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and theyll load you up in the bus for tubing whenever there are enough people. DRCC - put your park proximity in your online ads and we would have found you much sooner :)

Very nice people, explained everything in detail and marked on the map copy that you take with you, you get plenty of options regarding trip distance, the river and the trip were awesome. They drive you to the trip start point whenever youre ready, no wait time. We were there on a Monday, no people, quiet and peaceful.

Awesome company. Had a variety of unguided trips to choose from. Our drivers Anita and Alex were cool people. Beautiful campsite and reasonable rates. Would definitly reccomend DRC to anyone who wants to experience the shenandoah river.

Fantastic place. The staff were very helpful and efficient. Tube rental was easy and they provided other supplies to borrow (no extra charge) including coolers and dry bags. Bus transportation was fast.

Sign in, get delivered, have fun. This is the only way to do the river. There camp spot on the river hosts great adult fun. Go in June for the best temps.
