I have done a couple Escape rooms and this one was mediocre. I have done both the Bank Heist and Outbreak room. I did the Bank heist room first and I loved that room. I was with 3 of my friends and 6 other people and we escaped with 20 minutes left. There was a Tv which would give us hints when we wanted them or got a little stuck. Then I brought a group of 9 people to do the outbreak escape room and the experience we had was a horrible compared to my first time at mastermind escape games. The first aspect that ruined the experience was the Ipad with the clues. It was not like the bank heist room where the person watching could give you clues but an Ipad where you scanned a QR code for a clue. The clues we received from the Ipad were things we already knew so it was no help. I prefer looking into the camera and waving your arms to receive a clue from a actual person that can give you help hints. I think the person working was too lazy to help us and probably not paying attention. We also were rushed out of the room after and did not get a rundown of how to complete the room. These rooms are not cheap, and I do not want to pay 30 dollars again to see what is the answer to the outbreak room. This would also ruin it if other people were in the room with us the second time because we would already know how to do most of it. That second experience just left a bad impression and would make me not recommend this place to my friends and family. I feel if you make a couple changes then I would come back and do your other room.

I was extremely disappointed with our entire experience at Mastermind Escape Games in Schaumburg, IL. Our group was there for a bachelorette party for which we purchased 11 tickets for the Outbreak room (the maximum amount the website indicated could be in that room for a session). We did this so we could be sure to have the room to ourselves given the occasion. However, when we got there we were informed 2 other people we had never met before would be joining us. When I questioned that, there was no attempt by the staff to make it right. Normally this wouldnt be a concern but given the occasion I didnt think this was appropriate. Additionally, these 2 people we very experienced at Escape Rooms and took it very seriously (doing everything and not really allowing many of our group to help). Besides the issue with the number of people, our initial group of 11 only had 1 person that had ever done an Escape Room before. So the rest of the group needed some introduction/instructions. Other than a quick 1 minute rundown of the standard rules that we could barely hear in the crowded lobby because there were so many groups coming in and out, we were given no specifics on our game and its purpose. Ive been to other Eacape Rooms before and know how well organized, explained and enjoyable they can be. Unfortunately with this experience, none of that was the case. I would never recommend anyone go to this place.

First time players and we came out winners! Did not know what to expect going into it. No one in our group had played any type of escape game before. The rules were clearly posted and were also read to us with explanations, when needed. Definitely going back to play and BEAT the other rooms. Only two negatives stood out and I wouldnt consider them terrible negatives or deal breakers. One was that because of the close proximity of the other rooms, we could hear other guests cheering in the hallway as they escaped their room. Not a big deal as we were very loud and too caught up in our own room to really notice. It only happened once during one of the few moments of silence we had. The second gripe was that there was a slight time discrepancy between our iPad countdown and the TV countdown. If I remember correctly, it was about a 1 minute difference. Thankfully, it didnt matter as we won. Overall a great experience for going into it "blind." Will be going back hopefully soon!

My group and I did the CDC escape room and it wasnt set up properly. We needed one more item to figure out the combination to get out but it wasnt even in the room so it was physically impossible for us to solve the room. They need to be more thorough in their set up/clean up of previous groups. The staff was not helpful and they dismissed us very quickly when we tried to talk about the problem. We felt pretty jipped because we were so close to solving the room but the actual tools we needed werent even in the room (The staff insisted that it was there but we were very thorough when doing the room [we do escape rooms a lot} and were not convinced that it actually was). The man at the front desk also isnt welcoming and he has a rude attitude. I felt extremely judged by him and thats the last thing I need when doing these rooms. We loved this place and we love escape rooms but this was not a good experience. Definitely rethinking this place in the future.

It was fun, but the staff wasnt very friendly at first. We liked it so much that we wanted to do another one the same day and the employee wouldnt help us, even though we were ready to pay and we missed 2 new puzzles because he wouldnt help us. We found out there was an emergency in the back, so we understood some of the wait, but then when we did try to book, we said we wanted 10:45 timing for the puzzle and he ended up signing us up for the 11:45 and then told us it was our fault....we ended up doing another room but had to start it 10 minutes late because of the confusion... Tai spoke to us and smoothed everything over after our second puzzle and made us feel a lot better about everything. Would come back now as the situation was addressed....

We had found some members from our group already did this and the staff was not helpful at all at helping us find an alternative room for us to do here. I understand it was our fault for not realizing some members had done it already, but its absolutely useless to do the same one again and I would have expected them to be at least somewhat helpful. Also the first time we came here one of the keys was left out, which gave us a huge advantage. The staff actually yelled at us for skipping things and gave us a time penalty which was very bewildering. Also be aware this rating is very bloated since they tell people to open up their phones and give them a 5 once its done.

I tried the "Sorcerers Secret" room. The room and puzzles suited the room; there were some puzzles that were trickier than others, but none were impossible if you discuss them with your group. Communication is key, as it is for all escape rooms. Im looking forward to trying their "Outbreak" room soon. -------------------- UPDATED - Aug 12, 2016 Ive now done all four rooms. All of them fit the given theme well and had a logical flow to escaping. My favorite was probably the Bank Heist, since in addition to escaping, you also had to collect a certain amount of "money". If they have another room open, Ill definitely try that one also.
