This is kinda the opposite of Augusta National, but when youre as bad as I am, and youre playing with kids like I am, its just what you need. Staff has always been friendly and understanding. Regulars are also friendly and generally eager to start up a conversation. No the water jugs are not filled. Yes, the flags are all busted. Of course its hot. Yes there are mosquitoes. We get what we pay for through the City of Houston, and with dirt cheap green fees. If youre someone who packs your clubs for every vacation, and cant wait for the next Golf Digest, please dont be shocked if you dont find the playing conditions on Canino Rd. between Airline and Hardy to not meet your standards. If you enjoy the occasional round, and just want to play 18 fun and easy holes, give this place a shot. Just dont forget to pack your own water.

My buddy and I just played this course for the first time on Friday, April 28th 2017. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I only take off 1 star because the greens are mostly sand. However, for the $12 price on weekends, its a great deal and great entertainment! The fairways and surrounding areas on the course are really beautiful. Theres a nice breeze and plenty of trees and shade to get out of the sun. There are no stray dogs, only the 2 that the manager feeds. They were seen but did not bother us at all. We had a twosome and we walked 18 holes in 2 hours just taking our time. Super casual, very relaxed atmosphere. Manager is pretty cool, too! I also wish this was closer to where we are down south of Houston. Took us 45-50 minutes to get there from Lakewood Church where we work. Definitely going again soon! We used 8, PW and putter.

I just want to smack balls and get good at it. Maybe this is where the serious golfer is born. I have gone there w/ a friend and had a great time. Ill be going back for the cheap rate. there are neighborhoods around and can be a bit noisy from time-to-time. Overall, its a great place to enjoy a few rounds w/ friends and not worry about criticisms about your golf swing. One thing about this spot is that after noon the sun will start getting in your eyes when looking for your ball down the range.

Melrose does not accept credit cards (puzzling because other city-owned course accept credit cards)? The manager mentioned 3% credit card fee. No water provided on course (inexcusable in summer). All water jugs empty, all ball washing equipment not functioning. Despite clueless management, course is basic Par 3. Greens could use some work. Overall, place is rundown and in need of maintenance.

Lets be honest, golf can be an intimidating sport to just start off with. For $12 you get a chance to play 18 holes, par 3s and actuality be worry free as a 1st timer/beginner. Bring your golf bag or a 9 iron and a putter.Until you can par a few of these holes your really wasting money at other golf courses. Shank that opening tee here, no one gives a f@#$!

Ive played Melrose more than a few times in the past but I was out a couple of weekends ago with a few of my golf buddies and I was telling them it was a nice course but I was surprised when I saw that the greens was almost dirt and the course is not maintained the way it use to be. My buddies and I were very disappointed.

between flag sticks that wont seat in the cup enough to stand up, mosquitoes out the wazoo, bumpy greens with bare patches, neighbors blasting music, and stray dogs all over the place, there are much better places to play golf in houston. even at the low price, its not worth the drive.

Fun course with a friendly staff and low rates $10 all you can play (bring cash). The greens need help, the city should fund this course better. Very laid back atmosphere kind of like playing golf in someones back yard!

Great practice facility, driving range, and par 3 course. No carts, walk only, and a little sketchy neighborhood, but the price is very cheap and the people are very nice.
