i cant stand that the first review that pops up misinforms you that the staff can be curt . i have a feeling that might just be the reviewers personal experience. when i lived in providence, i went to the cable car every day for about 9 months . not only did i consistently experience GREAT customer service, i never witnessed any other guests catching attitude from the staff. seven magical words spoken in swift succession, and your day will be off to a great start : large iced dirty vanilla almond milk chai great sammies, good soups, and a lovely atmosphere. i am embarrassed to say that i have yet to catch a flick in the cinema , but this place is much more than a super cool vintage movie theater that has a well-curated collection of films. its a cafe , its a restaurant , its a smoothie bar, its a candy shop. its a great place to get some work done whether you sit inside or out... and i would just like to repeat, for good measure, that the staff is what makes this place great.

Love this place, will go back many times. Super laid back in a really accessible way. First off my iced soy (vanilla) chai latte tasted like the best graham crackers ever dipped in whole milk, it was - ridiculously good. The movie theatre is small without being cramped, I took in a showing of Take This Waltz which started very promptly and got to sit on a comfy leather loveseat (complete with drink holders) and curl up, it was perfect. They have wifi, outdoor seating, nice tall ceilings, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and genuine. Havent tried any food besides a delicious, soft, chocolate chip cookie, but looking forward to it, the sandwiches sound tasty.

The theater was comfortable and the sound was pretty good. My experience with the staff tonight was that they have no idea how to provide even the most minimal amount of customer service. Not even a response or smile or nod or noise when someone says thank you and have a great night. As someone who knows how important customer service is to a business, it was a huge let down to know that my money goes into a business where you dont appreciate your patrons. :/

Its a great idea to combine two of my favorite things: a Cafe and Cinema. This may make me biased, but there were other elements that made each parts of Cable Car unique. The seating in the cinema is a selection of regular theater seating along with some very comfortable love seats and couches. The screen is small, but intimate. The cafe also has a great aesthetic and food choices that you could brig into the theater if you wanted to.

I love this place! So classic and different from your typical huge, commercial theatres. This place only plays independent films and has special event showings, I.e the Oscar shorts and recently the French film festival. They have a cafe when you first come in and they sell coffee, teas, alcohol, sandwiches, etc. Come in and enjoy this small, quaint atmosphere. You wont regret it.

One of Providences best hidden gems, this is a cozy movie theater with couches and cup holders. A great place to go on a date or even alone, its ambience is unique. Thanks to its liquor license, one can buy a beer and enter the theater with it. Single drawback: small screen size.

Adorable local movie theater and cafe. Usually 1-2 movies showing per week on the one screen. Inside are seats and comfy couches, giving it a nice, relaxed feel. The coffee and other cafe items are good, I wish they had more selection for sandwiches and other food.

What a great funky little place to go! An excellent alternative to a regular theatre. From the sofas for 2 to the coffee tea selection and the world class sound system, the 2hole experience is wonderful.

My favorite place to see a movie. So comfy! Get a sandwich or refillable popcorn and sit in comfort. Staff changes, but weve been going regularly and the staff has been wonderful.

A wonderful theater with great movie choices, the best alternative to the big distribution theaters. On top they have really good coffee and paninis with a very relaxing ambient.

Small independent cafe and theater offers alternative films. Nice is the coffee and food opposed to soda and sweets. A treasure of providence. Dress cozy.
