This single screen throwback to the movie-palace era, with state of the art digital projectors and well maintained/renovated is a great place to take in a film! Pros: *Reasonable ticket prices for first-run movies. *Large, comfortable seats with reclining backs and fold-away arm rests. *Concession prices that wont break the bank. Cons: *With restrooms downstairs, use could be a problem for patrons with mobility challenges. *The spacious single theater shows, but one film at a time for weeks at a time, if its a movie youe interested in, you may hove no reason to come to this fantastic theater for a several weeks. I suggest going early, with only street parking available you may have to walk a few blocks if its a popular movie. Ive always been able to find a spot close by, and in such a good neighborhood, you needt worry about your car.

My rule is "If its not at the Roseway, Im not going" I am not a big fan of the other Theaters in the Portland area. Went to a movie here last night (a Tuesday). 8pm showing. $8. There were six of us in the theater. Everyone was able to spread out for an unobstructed view. The rocking seats are comfortable and have cup holders. The arm rests are starting to show some wear but it doesnt affect the comfort. The air conditioning was perfect for a hot night. Soda mix is good. The popcorn is large, round and firm but too darn salty for my taste. Prices are reasonable. The screen size is large and the sound system is awesome. Im kind of torn giving this theater five stars because it is a best kept secret for the neighborhood. I dont want too many people to find out what a gem this theater is. So shhhhhhhh. Only tell your best friends.

The Roseway renovated and reopened under new ownership on July 18, 2008 (any reviews prior to that date should be severely discounted.) The new theater is spectacular -- they replaced the 500 seats with 350. As a tall patron, I can not discribe how awesome the extra space is. All new seats (very comfortable), new paint, and a truly great new HD Digital screen and sound. Batman on opening weekend was perfect. This theater still has the great old lobby touches that made it a neighborhood classic (before it got kind of run-down.) Roseway has returned. Plus -- at least for now, tickets are only $6 on first run movies --- you can not beat it. Go here. Support local ownership!

Not being a native of Portland for very long, Im not sure of the Roseways history; I believe it was an older theater that has been remodeled and revamped. Its a one-screen theater, which is both a slight drawback and a part of its charm. The projector quality is good (and they will show movies in 3D when applicable). The prices are among the most affordable (if not the most affordable) that Ive paid for movie tickets (both regular and 3D showings). The staff are all friendly and courteous. Overall, this is one of the best theaters Ive frequented. If youre looking for a change from the big corporate theaters, this is a great place to go.

This is my favorite theater. The perfect combination of updates and restoration. I was so impressed with the remodel. The owner restored the original Art Deco vent and had the original rose stenciling redone. The theater seats are amazing. The sound system is amazing. The screen is great. Customer service is wonderful and the owner is quite friendly; you can really tell he loves what he does. SO much better than the chain cinemas.

Good grief! I used to go to the Roseway ("religiously") every weekend! That was over 60 years ago. Now Im helping my daughter relocate, maybe nearby, and I couldnt believe the Roseway was still going strong. My weekend afternoons as a youngster were divided between the Roseway and the Hollywood theaters. After seeing these reviews, I cant wait to attend this theater once again. I wonder if I will recognize anything?

Best theater in Portland. A single, good screen with a well done sound system. And the people that use this theater understand how to behave in public. No crying children, no cell conversations. And to top off this sundae of awesomeness, they dont show 30 minutes of commercials and previews like Bridgeport does. If I have to pick nits, the popcorn used to be better, but that is the only issue with this place.

My wife and I went fto this theater for the first time to see the new Star Trek movie. The interior is super tasteful, the seats are very comfortable with ample leg room, and the screen is a great size for that "big movie" experience. The biggest thing that "hit" me though was the sound system. Simply AWESOME!!! I have never heard a setup like that anywhere...ever... period. My hat is goes off to you guys. Great job.

I grew up going to this theater and watching Alfred Hitchcock movies, Godzilla in black-in-white, and many other classics Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Jimmy Deranny and so many other famous actors and actresses from the 30s - 50s even the 60s, I also like to hear them play the organ during intermission halfway through the movies. Thanks Mom and Dad and us kids really miss you guys.

This is my favorite theater in all of Portland. Its $9 a ticket no matter what time you go and it doesnt matter if its 3D or not. Its all the same price. The Popcorn is fresh, inexpensive and very inexpensive. The screen is a DLP. I dont know the history of the theater that well but it looks like it was from the 30s and remodeled within the last decade.

I love this little theater in my neighborhood! Good popcorn and although they only show 1 movie at a time, it is usually a good pick. The downstairs bathrooms are fairly vintage, small and have a slight mildew smell, but hey, who cares when youre usually racing in and out of there anyway to catch the movie. Maybe one day they will start serving beer?

Roseway was refurbished under new owners. Beautiful big seats, great concessions and a rehabbed lobby make this locally-owned, neighborhood theater a must-visit for the next big blockbuster. The owners do such a fine job that Paul Allens Vulcan Real Estate broke an agreement with AMC to hire this company to run Seattles legendary Cinerama Theater.

My Grandmother took me to the Roseway Theater in 1975 when John Wayne starred in Rooster Cogburn. The theater brings back great memories for me and is a great place to watch movies today. The seats are comfortable, the sound is great, and the setting is historic. The prices cant be beat. Youll have a great experience!

Great theater. If they showed films, Id be a regular. Pretty good for a digital theater, though, and a good place to catch 3-D movies at a lower price. I tried a couple of 2-D digital movies just because I liked the theater but, for digital, Ill just watch at home.

The service is great. The tickets are cheaper and the popcorn tastes way better than most of your typical AMC and regal theaters. The screen is huge. The only thing I could really complain about are the seats after sitting for a while, but it is an old theater.
