Better than your average course but for HHI I thought it left a little to be desired. The greens were inconsistent with several having large patches of dead or dying grass. The bunkers were hard as a rock and some had grass growing in the bunker. The fairways werent bad but werent as good as The Ocean course at Sea Pines. I paid 69 for the round at G Bear and 79 for the round at The Ocean Course. G Bear should be a 49-59 dollar course the way it is. The staff was nice but uncoordinated. My wife and checked with the clubhouse, confirmed our time and paid. We get to the started and he didnt have us on the starting sheet. Take my 2 cents for what their worth. I will not go back to Golden Bear unless the price drops by a large chunk.

Every trap was unraked. Greens were harder than a rock with many poor patch jobs. Started began our day with an attitude because of two off the first. Cart "boy" passed us several times while we were trying to wave him down for service. Dont try to have a putting contest on the practice green, Not allowed to get excited when someone makes a put. Very disappointing experience for the $$! As a member of a nice club, I do expect a little bit more. This course under delivered in all aspects. Pretty sure Jack would not appreciate his name associated with my experience here. BLT with fried egg was best part of this course.

I played the Golden Bear July 23, 2010. The afternoon rate was 29 dollars. I thought the greens or fairway would be in bad shape. I was pleasantly surprise at how well manicure the course was. the greens were smooth and fast rolling at about a 10. The fairways and tee boxes were in excellent shape also. The layout is very nice, I will play it again. This is the one of best deals on Hilton Head. Highly Recommended you play this course. Rodney Goose Creek, SC.

Great staff, very helpful, course was nice but not up to what I though a Jack Nicklaus course would be. They were doing repairs on each hole to the sprinklers or something like that. Each green had a freshly cover ditch dug around it. Im sure its a beautiful course when all of that isnt going on, but It seemed a little beat up.

I played the Golden Bear a few years back and it was in bad shape. We decided to give it another go after several locals said it was in good shape. They were not lying. The layout has always been great and now the greens and fairways are nice. Is it the best course in HH - no, but do not avoid it for past sins.

Would like the staff to know that we never saw a ranger on the course. The round was unbearable as a consequence. Speed of play is important and this course really dropped the ball in this area. Seemed to be a nice course otherwise but couldnt get off it quick enough (if you get the pun)

Staff not happy and un welcoming...range balls extra no tees included or towels either. All other courses provide this for free in Hilton head. Great course design and very peaceful...we enjoyed the scenery.

Being from Columbus, OH once upon a time this course was my first destination plus I enjoy playing Bear Trace in TN annually. The course played great but they didnt rake the traps today......Comon Man!

the course is in excellent condition. The greens are wonderful. Wish people would rake the sand better, but was able to hit out with little effort. The staff is friendly and anxious to please. A+++

Course is tight with lots of houses bordering the holes... Fun layout though, and in pretty good shape for the $$. Great staff inside & out, which always adds much value to the overall experience!!

Another great hilton head golf course. Unlike many other low country courses, this Nickalus course is both forgiving but has lots of water hazards.

Nice golf course with lots of gators (a local hazard that warrants a free drop). Play is fairly flat with somewhat narrow fairways. Great golf staff.
