I visited the Carmike 16 theater in Wilmington, NC yesterday to see Moana at 3:45pm and I can say that I have no desire whatsoever to return to this or any Carmike Theater in the future. Firstly, we waited in line for nearly 30 minutes just to get tickets for the movie. Making everyone go through the same line whether theyre purchasing concessions or just movie tickets is a low money grab. It takes way too long and irritates guests. Secondly, the theater building as a whole was filthy. The floors were covered in dirt and popcorn, the restrooms were nasty and looked like the last time they had been cleaned or updated was in 1980, and the theater was hot and smelled like mold. Finally, the picture quality was terrible. The screen was covered in blotches and streaks that threw off the colors, you could see where the projector wasnt formatted correctly causing the picture to bleed onto the walls, and it was too dim. On top of that, the volume was turned down so low that I could barely hear the dialog and music in a *musical* over the sounds of chairs squeaking and the old, hinged door slamming every time someone left the theater. I grew up occasionally going to this Carmike theater when I was younger and its great to see that nothing has changed in 30 years. I dont go to Carmike theaters and this theater is the reason. It would be really great to see this theater updated, but Im afraid that the beautiful Regal 16 theater and the new Barclay theater in Wilmington are going to be the last straw for Carmike.

Awful- save your time and money. The screen flickered during the whole film which was distracting- think a bulb was about to go. Carpet and seats were dirty- trash left in them from previous shows. No surprise since there were only a handful of staff members working the registers (long lines to get your tickets and food). NO ONE was taking tickets so I guess thats a plus if you like to sneak into movies. Bathrooms were dingy and smelled of urine. Gave this place 2 shots- tried to see Free State of Jones with my husband and they had cancelled the showing without notice due to technical difficulties. The next week took our kids to see Big Friendly Giant (tried calling to confirm and no one picked up). Two bad experiences- wont be trying again. The only positive about Carmike is the rewards program and the $5 movies on Tuesdays if youre really on a tight budget but I recommend just doing a matinee at Regal for a better experience. Its cleaner and more reliable and just up the road and the prices are essentially the same. Check Fandango to compare pricing and you will see. Finally, sketchy area to be in; wouldnt dare go there late at night.

I was in Wilmington for business and thought we would go see a movie. Didnt realize that on a Monday night that when we went to go see the Blind Side that night we would see two rounds of previews and no movie. We were there for over an hour watching previews and when we went back for the third time to talk to the assistant manager about getting the movie started. All we saw was him getting in his car and driving off. Yes people, he left us in the theatre alone, no one was in there. Anything could have happened to us two woman at the theatre and no one that worked there was even in the theatre. I would really think this is against the law to leave patrions in an empty theatre. I tried repeatedly to call the cinema to talk to the owner or manager but no one would answer a message. So, I guess the best way to solve any issues is to let others know, DO NOT GO TO THIS THEATRE!!!!!!!!!!!

We were running a little late to go see a movie and by the time we got there were left with front row seats. Wed not been to the theatre before so decided to risk it. Mistake. Despite the nice reclining seats we were basically right under the screen. It was impossible to see the entire screen without constantly turning your head. Thats not really acceptable to me for the amount you have to pay for movie tickets these days. We were going to get food before the movie but decided against it when we saw the very long lines (and considering our late arrival). Im sure watching the movie from any seat other than the front row would have been a better experience at this theatre but the management should remove the existing front row or severely drop the price of the tickets. As it is now, its a ripoff to anyone who hadnt been to the theatre before and thinks it might be an okay experience.

It was terrible. I went with a large group of friends to see a rated r movie. Now we are all over the age of 20 and one of my friends (he was 20) forgot his ID. They refused to let anyone buy his ticket because "he needed his ID" when it clearly states anyone over the age of 21 can purchase a ticket for someone under the age of 17. Usually this wouldnt be a problem and we would just leave but the service was terrible and the attitudes of the workers was absolutely appalling. Then the worker told us it was because they had people coming in "under cover" buying tickets and testing the workers from corporate. (Shame on corporate for scaring their employees like that.) I highly recommend just going to Mayfaire (regal cinemas) they are more friendly and professional. Carmike has lost my buisness for the the foreseeable future thats for sure.

Its decent overall. A city fire dept. is across the street. Inside the building is dated with a need for new carpeting and lighting. The staff are ok, but dont ask u for your phone number. Self reminder since that is their job. The price of the $15 for a Stub Premier is adequate. Make sure to make it on a Sat. matinee that its between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. If not then the price of a 2D is $12 overall. Its cheaper to go on an weekday evening at under $10 overall. Remembered when getting a ticket that tax was included. Those days r gone. Its a bargain alone to see the clarity of Real D as 2D w/o the extra expense. Overall, rating is a C+ and fun to visit. Make sure u tell them your phone number. They dont ask for mine. That is their job. The soft drink machine is great. I budget by planning ahead for food/drink.

AMC recently bought out this theater. Two days ago I went to a matinee to see Beauty and the Beast with my son, my mom, and a friend. The previews and the movie were so loud (luckily I had ear muffs for my son) that I downloaded an app to read the decibels which were at 91.9. I went to the counter to notify the manager and the lady at the counter said they would turn it down but we heard no difference in the volume. I wouldnt normally give a bad review but we were at a kids movie and I have read articles saying "anything about 90 decibels or above is potentially harmful". There was recently a whole news segment about movies being too loud and I dont think there was any need for it to be that loud. My mother said it even hurt her ears.
