I live in the neighborhood, and I love to go to Bowne Park whenever I have time. Recently I go there everyday. It has a large pond with two water shoot outs, which give out a lively and present sound for everybody close to the pond. There are two big willow trees standing right by pond with hanging leaves towards the water, creating a very artistic view from all directions. I love taking photographs here in the park, so I have a good collection of them. In the early summer time there are geese walking in the park, but in July, they are gone. There are one mother duck with a dozen of babies instead. There are also a lot of turtles surfing in the pond. The condition of the park seems to have been improved, but you can only use the restrooms before six pm. They will be locked up after six, which I find it very inconvenient for a lot of people who stay in the park until 10 oclock! Below I would like to give the brief history of Bowne Park: Parks acquired this property on June 1, 1925, by condemnation. On June 10, 1969, Bowne Park made headlines as the first City park with an instant playground. This creation, developed by Mayor John V. Lindsay and Parks Commissioner August Heckscher, provided ready-made modular playground equipment to communities lacking adequate recreational facilities. Donated anonymously, Bowne Parks units consisted of eight-sided colorful fiberglass play-cubes. In 1994, Bowne Park underwent an extensive, $800,000 renovation funded by Queens Borough President Claire Schulman. The renovated park offers recreation for all age groups; it boasts a bocce court surrounded by benches and tables, modern playground equipment, slides, swings, a spray shower, and basketball courts. The parkhouse, crowned by a weather vane, includes a community room that doubles as a nursery. Beautiful bench-lined walkways provide space for relaxing. The park features a pond that is home to families of turtles. A cement turtle, set atop the rolling hills overlooking the pond, stands guard above his more lively counterparts as they navigate the waters below. Two weeping willows, measuring nearly fifty feet in height, lie adjacent to the pond. In addition, American Elms and Oaks shade the park during the summer months with their wide canopies. The John Bowne homestead, located at 37-01 Bowne Street, lies south of the park and remains the oldest private residence in the borough. The community has always been active in the affairs of Bowne Park. The Bowne Park Civic Association has remained true to its motto "A Better Community through Civic Action", by maintaining relevant historic documents and providing a center for information and action.

I came here exactly 2 years ago and studying in QCC (aiming at physician assistant) right now: and when I have some spare time , I go to the park , most of the time with my brother . And all I may say, I really love this place: it is quite, calm, green, peaceful and lovely. There are not too many people there at all times, and there are people jogging around the park at all times as well. The pond is a wonderful place to sit at and chill, and theres also a playground for children and basketball cort for those kids who are a bit older (and actually not only for kids). So I reccomend to anyone who is up to chill and take a break from the hastle of NYC. Peace!

This is a great park for aerobic exercise. Once around the park is 0.6 miles, and there are many other exercise enthusiasts who come here to run or walk, so it never gets boring. There is a beautiful, serene pond with ducks and turtles, cavalcade of geese, birds and squirrels to enjoy while sitting on the nice benches or during a leisurely stroll. The restrooms are very clean and remodeled. There are two new bocce courts and a beautiful playground with child safety features. Also, its located in a very safe and affluent area--I remember running around Bowne park as late as 1 am without any trepidation.

This is a great park to visit for a walk, especially on weekends. People come here to take their dog out for a walk. They have a nice pond, a lot of ducks come to visit, turtles live in the pond and stick their head out or they come out the water for a visit. Sometimes men are fishing in the pond, but I dont know if they ever catch anything. There is an area for people to play botchy ball, but you need to provide your own balls. There is a playground area for little kids. If you want to have a relaxing day, I recommend coming here for a picnic, and spend a few hours here.

Very nice park. I love the lake with, geese, fish, and turtles basking in the sun. The fountain in the lake is pretty. A lot of people walk the perimeter of the park for exercise. Mostly friendly people there. I like watching bocce ball there. My only complaint is an irresponsible dog owner that had his two dogs off leash and was very far away from his dogs. He had no control of them. Thats illegal and completely unfair to other people and pets enjoying the park.

Garbage cans are loaded with garbage, sidewalks need to be replaced, signs saying dont feed the wildlife only in English and kids are feeding them, pond is so murky, curbside grass doesnt get maintained so it should get cemented over so there is more space for walkers, when the grass is mowed the clippings are all over the sidewalk along with some more trash and someone actually fishing near the pond and the playground being renovated in the middle of the summer

nice swingset and playground, the lake is nice, though the geese can make it messy. Main issues are the bocce courts have lots of men smoking cigars very close to the playset and the bathroom is under perpetual construction, but both issues dont detract from an otherwise pleasant park.

A small park with a pond that has turtles, ducks and geese in it during warmer weather. Theres a small childrens park with a basketball court as well. Its usually very quiet and peaceful. Overall, its a cool little park and a nice place to visit.

I come here every day and the view is beautiful. I think the pond and the pigeons make it much more better to come here. I think you should really go and visit Bowne Park.
