I see movies at this theater almost weekly (depending on whats new that week). The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the grounds and theatres are clean. Its NOT a national chain (although there are several Fridley theatres around, but theyre all in smaller towns in this area) and thats reflected in the way the staff runs the place. They dont necessarily feel like just another employee and if you have a problem (I think maybe once there was no sound during the previews) they are quick to resolve it. If youre looking for an indie movie or a foreign movie this likely isnt the venue to see that, films wont stay here for weeks at a time unless theyre huge hits, and being in a smaller town they get some of the more religious titles. I feel safe taking my kids to see a movie here and its not that hard to get in or out and they have plenty of parking.

We were incredibly excited to live so close to a theater! Unfortunately, they really need to renovate and bring the location into the 21st century. The huge chain locations are creating incredible theaters, but they can be annoying. Springwood 9 has a unique opportunity to retain that small town theater feel while updating everything to compete with the larger chains. During both of our visits we found the seating terribly uncomfortable, there was no ambient music so the theater was uncomfortably quiet making it hard to have conversation while waiting for the movie to start, and the volume of the movie was too low. We havent been back since and have started going to Johnston or Jordan Creek. Its more costly but the experience is better. Hopefully Springwood 9 will read these comments and take action.

During a showing of Logan a fight broke out over a young child in the theatre, including threats to stab an individual. Employees couldnt call 911 because there was no phone available. Staff kept the movie running through the incident and during the police witness interview with people talking over it. When we approached a manager afterwards, her response was free passes for a future movie and she explained that the workers are new and "mostly morons". Clearly there is a serious lack of training at all levels. I hope those passes work at all theatres, because I assure you I will never be going to this one again.

Ever want to just sit down before a movie and actually be able to have a conversation with the person beside you without having the deafening roar of some hipster on screen spout random movie facts at you? Then come over to the Ankeny theater. At first it was almost a surreal experience walking into the theater. There was nothing on the screen trying to entertain me at every single moment and no music trying to drive out the sound of intelligent conversation. I also really like the feel of the theater with its big red curtains making my feel like I had paid my ticket not just for a movie, but for an experience.

Im surprised by all the good ratings. This theater is over-priced for what it is. I went to a showing last night and all around the room I heard people say their seats were broken. The two next to me were broken. The chairs are worn out and dont make it easy to sit through a 2 hour movie. The sound also leaves a lot to be desired (the sound is always low and theres little bass). The whole theater is small and worn out looking. For the same price you can go to a much newer, nicer theater a little further away. The stadium seating and the staff are nice, but that doesnt justify the price.

This used to be our primary theater, but over the last few years as new theaters have popped up in the metro we find ourselves rarely coming here. No huge issues but the theater has not kept pace with other theaters that offer reserved seating, luxury seating or even food service during the movie. The bathrooms are small and the entrances to them are tight. Largest complaint was when it got busy there was never enough ticket takers. I am hoping Friday’s decides to open a new theater in Ankeny as they are a great operator

Me and my 2 friends were denied access to an R-rated movie even though we were all teenagers that were accompanied by a gaurdian over the age of 21. The guy at the front counter got nasty and had an attitude and he refused to let us in because we werent 17 although we were accompanied by a legal gaurdian. I later looked at the policy and it says if you are accompanied by someone over the age of 21 than you may enter. I am never going there again. I always have to deal with nasty employees.

We have lots fun options in Des Moines. Theaters with fancy seats and overwhelming sound like XD. Dinner and a movie like Flix. IMAX at SCI. All great options but for this movie loving family we are always happy to end up at our local theater. It is not fancy but it is clean and friendly with tasty popcorn and reasonable prices. Once the movie starts, who cares about the frills anyway.

Ive been going here for years and recently went to see the new "IT", I bought my ticket about 3 hours before the showing so I didnt have to wait in the ticket line, and when I showed up, I had forgotten my ID at home and they told me I couldnt see the movie without it, and now I may somehow be banned because I didnt have it. Rip.

Low resolution projector; loud crackling noise at the back of theater; musty smell; stale popcorn; overpriced snacks; understaffed; overpriced tickets; old, broken, dirty seats. NOT nearly worth the price of admission. I could tell, by all the elderly couples at the movie, how this place manages to stay in business.

Overall friendly staff, clean & up to date theatre. Free popcorn night is now Tuesday night & Fridley Theaters *always* have the best popcorn. The night I went, the kettle apparently needed some cleaning & the flavor was a bit off on the popcorn. Still better than most other theaters, though.

I enjoy the popcorn and Pepsi. It seems like more and more theatres are selling different kinds of popcorn that are not as good as the traditional buttered popcorn. I think there are a lot of people in Iowa that prefer Pepsi to Coke although if I often sneak in my can of pop.

This theatre would be fine if they would put some decent sized chairs in. I really dont care that they arent the nice leather recliners that AMC has at there theatres but it would be nice if I could actually sit down in the chair without hitting my jaw with my knees.

Good theaters. Nothing special, but thats not a bad thing. Perfect for the dates where you just want to go and watch a movie with someone for a fair amount of money. My brother always goes on Tuesday nights late. He says he gets the whole theater to himself.

Our favorite movie theater in the Des Moines area. The popcorn is always delicious and fresh and comes with a lid to shake the salt around in (and use as a bowl for multiple eaters). The employees are always super nice and helpful, the place is always clean.
