Ive been going to this place since 2002 to see many of my favorite bands. Back then it was considered to be a pretty unsafe area, now its much, much worse. Last time I was there, in October 2013, it was pretty bad, there was a guy charging and handing out tickets for parking who was asking some of us to park behind the restaurant that was next door. Not even sure if the guy worked for Harpos. Well the restaurant owner threatened to call the towing company if people didnt more their cars. Good thing I didnt park there. Regardless of where I parked, I didnt feel comfortable about my vehicle. Inside, the place has really become rundown over the years, the floor in front of the stage, which used to have a barrier, no longer does, there is little to no security anywhere. If something were to happen I dont know who would be there to help. The bathrooms and overall structure of the place has really deteriorated. Theyve added a separate smaller stage that you have to flock to if you want to see other bands play. If you watch the show from the main floor and dont want to be in the mosh pit, good luck not getting sucked in. I swear, some of these people only go to these shows for the mosh pits. The sound quality was average, it actually used to be much better. Theres been stories of bands getting equipment stolen from them or getting mugged. Ive noticed, fewer and fewer bands stop in Detroit or Harpos during their tours. Especially in the last 5 years or so. Maybe they dont feel safe. We need another metal venue in metro Detroit thats safe, well-maintained and desirable for bands to come to. Harpos was the metal haven of the area a decade or so ago. But not anymore. Shut it down.

There are lot of bad posts here. But really this place is pretty cool, the workers are really nice, and I didnt feel unsafe. There was security inside and in the parking lot. The drinks are strong and reasonable. Yes the bathrooms are a bit rough, and the building is not heated, but you have a great view of the stage no matter where you are and there are 3 areas to kick it in so you be as close or as far away as comfortable and still have a good view. And the sound was awesome.. Yeah its outdated, and maybe a bit grungy, but Id go back again no problems..BTW Orgy and Powerman 5000 rocked, thank you guys for coming to Detroit...

I walked out before the show it was soooo nasty. The place smelled so bad that it was giving me a migraine. The place was dimly lit so you couldnt see all the funk. It is like the owners dont care and are waiting for the roof to fall in. I am shock the place is legally allowed to be open. I think the building should be condemed. The speakers were going in and out It is sad because I am sure back in the day it was a beautiful venue now it is a complete dump. Save your lungs from the smell of kerosene and other funk and just dont go. Avoid at all costs. I have no clue how anyone would give it anything other than 1 star.

Ive been here several times to see various shows. This place has a lot of history, many great artists have played here. Drinks are cheap as well. However they do not accept credit cards and there is no ATM. The staff there would not allow me to leave and go across the street to use an ATM. The bouncer there tried to extort $20 from me in order to allow me to use the ATM across the street. WTF!!! They are only open during special events and they allow smoking on premises in violation of the law.

I had to give harpos a star i honestly would never come back. Ernie wouldnt let me inside for the ritz meet and greet because he cant read!!! It says it clear as day meet and greet vip but i guess paying $74 more for two tickets to hang with people who paid $18 a ticket is the way to go. Then ernie gets called out on it and is embarrassed and threatens to throw me out. Wow HARPOS get ur management together! !!!

Harpos is one of the best places to see a metal band show. Its nice atmosphere, retro furnishings, and reasonable drink prices, are by far a part of the best entertainment places in the Metro area. I love it, my family loves harpos, and we go to every show we can, if its a good band at HARPOS!!! (Ive see many bands there over the last 25 years)

This place is awful it is way too small, the stage is way too high up, the rails are falling apart and being held together with duct tape, the speakers are god awful and you have no idea what the singers are saying. It just looks unclean and i would suggest to never bring kids there. Oh and they allow smoking, which is illegal.

This place kind of confused me at first, I was suppose to do the meet and greet but there wasnt any vip line till we got in. I also find it cool how you can smoke inside, but they could of put a filter in this place because I felt like I was suffocating from the cigarette smoke. The workers were cool with me

Good drink prices, awesome and friendly security, great sound! The only bad thing is the area. Its a real bad neighborhood. .. blocks of empty half burned/rotting houses and buildings. We werent out of the truck for 5 minutes and heard someone shooting a couple blocks away. Other than that, good venue.

Harpos is a Detroit rock institution. Its a dive in a dicey neighborhood, but the bands that have passed through its doors are legendary. Everything there is very basic, but its exactly what you picture when you think of a hard rock and metal club.

Gritty neighborhood, actually, not as gritty as they say, and we were there past midnight. Uber picked us up where we wanted even at 2a.m. so it cant be that bad right? Great show, ICP always puts it down on Juggalo Day! Whoop whoop @Harpos

I love the acts they have here being a metal head and what not... But their sound quality is so bad that it makes it hard to enjoy my fav bands. I dont know if its the sound guy or the speakers.. but they need to tighten up.

Been going there for 20 plus years. Great sound. Bad location. Get there early because the bathroom will be a wreck 20 minutes into a show. Great meal venue but not a place to stray too far from.

True to form, where Metal lives! Ive seen KMFDM, Seb Bach and a few others there. It has a grit that is missing from most venues these days.

This place was my first performance outside of my hometown! It was worth every ounce of dedication to rock the stage here! Thanks Harpos!

Harpos, the legendary rock and roll club. Rough around the edges but a good time once you get over your initial unease
