Shadowbox Live is a live cabaret and cafe, featuring hilarious and creative theater shows, ranging from sketch comedy to rockn roll tributes, with a myriad of styles and subjects in between. Ive attended several Shadowbox Live performances over the years and Ive always had a blast. Theyve all been so good that I can hardly choose a favorite from the Holiday Hoopla, to the Best of Shadowbox, and beyond. Shadowbox tends to push the lines of what the average person may find comfortable. They do not shy away from openness to sexuality, nor do they sugarcoat the subject matter. Shadowbox thrives on the collective range and emotions of the human condition, and if they were to censor even a small part of their performances, they might very well lose the amazing raw, flare that Ive come to love so dearly. I am a very open minded person, with a lot of hippie/progressive ideals, and I dont think you can have a true theater without such openness. Because the moment you worry about offending someone, you lose that edge, that fire, that flame that rips you open and makes you think and feel and experience, as we humans were always meant to do. This time around, I checked out Shadowboxs Evolutionaries show, which focused on the life and music of David Bowie and Prince. And oh, boy, was it amazing. Not only was the music fantastic, and very well performed, but the dancing and performing arts that accompanied the musical performances was so powerful and charged that I often felt shivers, and was often completely captivated by the magic and talent of the entertainers. At times, it was political and so powerful, and other times, it was sexual and emotionally charged, and yet, utterly satisfying.

I had a BLAST!!! And I dont care WHAT it costs to go back, I will GO BACK!! The Freak was DELICIOUS and the prices on their drinks were VERY affordable! The spinach dip was AMAZING and I didnt even CARE that I was grinning with a big green smile when a piece got caught in my tooth!! It just added to the hilariousness of the evening! The actors were INCREDIBLE!! And the waiter obliged when I begged him not to point out that I was a "virgin".. lol! Billy, our waiter, even dressed up as Britney Spears and sang to a table nearby us... It was HILARIOUS!! To know that the money is benefiting the performing arts and getting a DELICIOUS $5 drink is enough of a reason for me to return! Not only that, but the sketches were VERY funny and the artwork hanging on the walls was WONDERFUL!! All in all I believe our whole party had a FANTASTIC time! My birthday is coming up in Dec... (Hint hint friends... lol) and I hope to return VERY SOON! I would say the only thing I didnt enjoy was the TV intermissions of sorts... that could have been funnier. Or even if they just had a person doing some stand up while the sets were being put together might have been better than showing what they did on TV... other than that though it was an AWESOME experience!

For our third consecutive visit, we got extremely poor service. Two visits ago we arrived well before ordering cut-offs but the process of seating and no one coming to get our order promptly, we had to wait until intermission to get hot food. Then we went to a late show, ordered drinks and never saw our server again. We would have liked to order more drinks. Someone else finally showed up with our check. we arrived well before any cutoff time. Heard the announcements for 15, 10 and 5 minutes to hot food cut off. Finally grabbed a food runner to see if we could order (hadnt even gotten to order drinks after being seated for 20+ minutes) so we left. We purposefully hadnt eaten anything so drinking was not a good option nor did we want to wait an hour plus until intermission to eat. The restroom in the bistro had out of order signs on 2 of the 3 urinals and 1 of two stalls. Paper towel dispenser was broken so a roll was just sitting on the counter. The more diversified it becomes, the less they seem to do right. Might be past time to do less but do it well.

My positive experience started before I even arrived. I needed to exchange tickets that Id bought online for the 2pm show to the 7pm show and when I called, it was a painless process to get this exchanged. I was worried this exchange wouldnt even be possible but it was not big deal. What relief. When we arrived, the staff was very knowledgeable and professional in directing us to our seats. Our waiter was very friendly. Its neat how the waitstaff is part of the production. We saw Little Shop of Horrors and it was the best production Ive ever seen! The actors and actresses were so engrossed in their characters. Their facial expressions and movements were hilarious. You could tell they were having fun on stage and it just radiated off them. The live band was phenomenal. They have found some of Columbus most talented musicians and performers. I cant wait to go back to Shadowbox again and Id strongly recommend seeing a show there.

This is one place Ive always had an interest in checking out for probably the last 16 years, but it always managed to stay on the back burner. Well a friend went and saw the "Which ones Pink" multimedia celebration of Pink Floyd and told me I would really enjoy it. With some friends, we came and checked it out, and I was pretty much beyond amazed and just floored by how good the performance was. The service/staff/music/performance was all really spectacular, I would give this place a 5 star, its totally worth it on the people who work here and their passion alone. It was just the food, it wasnt bad tasting or cooked improperly, just sub quality, but I found it understandable, because they serve everyone before the performance starts, so to work with the amount of time they have, the food items need to be prepared and served quickly, so this is what you get.

This crew puts on some pretty fantastic shows, especially for the cost. I wish there were options for more comfortable seats. I have some issues with my back and sitting on the chairs they have for a whole show can be tough for me because of it. The seats may also be tougher for people who are heavier set, but everyone there is so friendly that its worth giving going at least once a try. The food they make there is definitely worth it and theyre willing to make changes based on your dietary needs. The staff that makes the food and serves often also performs, so if you want food, I would say show up some good amount of time beforehand to make sure they can have the opportunity to give you good service as it does get much busier for them around Showtime. All in all its a lovely place for a date night or just being with friends/family.

Visited last night for the first time and we had a blast. I have to give it up to the performers who are also pretty much running the place, serving and working the gift shop. So much energy from each of the talented performers that it makes you really get into the show and step out of your comfort zone just enough. The songs were great, the food was good as well (the special drink was tasty but could use more booze haha), and the skits were hilarious. One of the male performers gave me a Kramer from Seinfeld vibe - and I completely mean that in the most complimentary way...his whole body was a part of the comedy. Hard to decide what my favorite part was, but definitely bravo to the amazing house band - the guitarist I would love to see playing alongside Derek Trucks or Eric Clapton. We will be back for sure, since we got tickets!
