The two best places to visit in the zoo for toddlers are the Aviary with the walk-in bird feeding experience ($1 for popsicle sticks of bird seed) and the zoo train. We visit every September and this is the highlight of the experience for them. -we take video of both activities so we can watch them over, and over, and over at home until we come back the following year. The only thing I would suggest is to fix the pull-string bell on the zoo train locomotive. This was so much fun for the kids, until it broke in the recent past. Please have it repaired ASAP, they loved that bell. Thanks for a terrific experience each year and were always looking forward to our next vacation trip here. God bless you and your staff team, well see you again in September.

This is a very nice small zoo overlooking Lake Michigan and built around the dunes environment. This means some modest climbing but its definitely worth it. Its a great family destination and has most of the animals you would expect such as lions, tigers, bears, etc. If you need giraffes or hippos or representatives from all the primates, you will nerd to go to one of the pricier and more crowded zoos such as Brookfield zoo. But this zoo suits our family perfectly for a half day trip. Not necessarily a flawless gem but definitely a diamond in the the rough.

You would think that a hidden away small zoo like this would barely have any animals and be a breeze to get through. Well, its a huge surprise once youre inside because it has way more than youd expect. Peacocks roam around, theres monkeys, a really awesome white tiger! Theres a huge tower toward the back thats both great to climb and gaze out from. Definitely a place to check out if youre in town and looking for something to do. On a hot day, just come out to the zoo and then the beach!

Bears, lions, wolves, monkeys, reptiles, birds, llamas, and so much more. So much fun to visit. Very kid friendly zoo. The employees were all very nice and you can tell truly enjoy their work with the animals. Since it was built on old dunes, the zoo is hilly, but this gives it a great, multi-level feel as you explore. Bring comfortable shoes. They have also now restored the old tower that used to be closed. Get an amazing view of the surrounding area and of Lake Michigan from the top.

Nice little ZOO.. many improvements with more on the way. Known for its breeding skills Michigan City ZOO is even well known by the big name Zoos. Not a lot of large animals due to space limits but still a great visit. The Tower is a must see. One of the few WPA structures left from the depression days. Monkey Island was also a WPA structure but it is now only a Lemur display. It is in line for a renovation and restoration and seeking donors.

There are some unique animals here. It is a small zoo but well worth the visit. The beach is just a walk away so spending an entire day at the zoo and beach isnt a problem. The animals have lots to do and seem really happy. The trek up to the tower is worth it to see the beach and surrounding area. Lots of shade and the animals are all really easy to see for younger kids and toddlers. The river otters is a favorite exhibit of ours.

A nice assortment of different animals. The large tiger at the entrance was a nice start to the zoo. We spent about an hour here and $7/person for non-resident seemed very fair. It looks like they are doing more adding and remodeling as well. There was one part at the back near the family restrooms that had a bunch of construction, dirt, and metal pieces on the ground that was not roped off. That was pretty questionable.

The Zoo would be a perfect place for anyone who wants to share family time or celebrate a family reunion. The zoo is smaller but some interesting and unusual animals. You pay to park outside the zoo and also to enter the zoo. There is a public park and public beach just outside the zoo that is free. The tower is fun to get a good view of the area around the zoo. It was gun feeding the parakeets. Good family fun

It was just ok. You have to pay to park in their lot and you have to pay to get into the zoo. Its not very expensive but still.more costly than what I felt we got value wise for a family of 4. The enclosures are ok but not very organic for many of the animals. Many of the animals looked stressed and some were no shows. Saw very little staff presence and most of them were not helpful at all when asked questions.

I rarely come here but when I do I always love it. The last time I came though a couple of the animals werent there because the environment wasnt suitable for them yet so I couldnt see everything. But then I did see everything when I went up in the tower they have located in the zoo. You can see everything when youre at the top of the tower. Bring something to hold your hair though, gets a bit windy up there.

Many improvements have been made in the past 2-3 years. Glad to see that the animals looked well cared for and clean. They have a lot to offer for a small zoo, perfect for kids. You pay for parking but it is good at all of the lakefront areas for the day, so you can hit up the beach after the zoo! Very cute zoo with many varieties of animals, and also plenty of interactive activities for kids and adults.

Its a childrens zoo - and great for children - and as my son reminds me - "walking is good exercise". The petting area, the otters with the underwater tunnel, the tiger, the train you can ride on, observation tower (with its "thousand steps")...all make for great fun. Its close to the park, the beach, the marina, the outdoor mall, lots of good fun/exercise for the family.

Awesome zoo...near Lake Michigan...parking is 7 dollars plus the entrance fee per person...kind of small but it is beautiful! Lots of stairs, so keep that in mind...and they have peacocks running around right next to you at times...very cool bird area as well! Monkeys, farm animals, eagles, a snake area, which is next to the snack area and one of the bathroom areas

Best zoo ever! My wife and I love bringing our children here because its allows them to experience the wonderful animals from a close but safe distance. Ive never felt that it was overcrowded and theres always parking. Animals look happy and well taken care of and the zoo is across the street from a park, splash pad and the beach with plenty of places to dine.

Considering this is a small zoo it is very well done. It is on a bit of hill with stairs and ramps that feel like walking on paths through the woods. It was very clean, the habitats are nicely done, and my wife and I spent a relaxing and enjoyable 3 hours here and will definitely return. Plus on the other side of the parking is a nice Lake Michigan beach.
