Uncomfortable and embarrassing situation. Me and a group of friends went to go watch Civil War. Never been at this theater before I was excited to see how it looks since Ive visited enough cities to know that they are very beautiful inside and out. As I walked in with my friends it didnt disappoint with restaurants and beautiful decor ll around. Of course wanting to photograph my visit to the city I took out my phone to take just few pics and immediately was stopped my the security saying that this was private property and Photos arent allowed. It surprised me because of the amount of theater Ive been too Ive never not once had this happen to me. Either small towns, big cities etc. I found it ridiculous that no photos were allowed. Completely embarrassed as the security guard was not gentle in letting me know this fact and was rather rude. We just went up and watched our movie. If this IS a rule of the building I find it ridiculous since its in our nations capital and being such a huge tourist spot were people WILL be taking photos of there trip. Everything else was ok. Nothing else about the theater was that great. But just that situation just killed it for me. WILL NOT be returning this this theater.

RACISM MUCH? Those of you claiming the clientele are "classless piggish blacks" need to check yourself and get out of Chinatown. If you didnt realize that black people ARE the heart of DC, the citizens of the city for over 6 decades, and were here before you thought about hanging out in Chinatown because there is now a Fuddruckers and a Starbucks with Mandarin translations on the front. We have our own culture, including loving to joke and enjoy shows/movies more verbally, and we certainly dont have to apologize for that. Thats on you for not doing your research. Sounds like you know nothing about DC. I would choose a loud movie theatre over your classless racism anyday. The theatre is a big commercial complex with teenagers that would rather hang out with each other than help you....sounds like every big commercial movie theater complex, like ever. Id say E Street Cinemas or the Uptown Cinemas are great for a more artsy, indie vibe. Depends on your preference. -5 Stars for all of the racists on here, and those saying these posts are "most helpful" instead of flagging them.

Horrendous experience last night: 7pm showing of Fathom Events “On The Waterfront” at Gallery Place Theaters on 7th Street here in Washington. Sat there for 15 minutes of silent pre-film commercials and Q&A’s on screen. When movie finally started, the introduction to the film by TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz was completely without audio as was the first 5 minutes of the movie. Tried to summon a manager by going to ticket lady at entry but took about 10 minutes to get someone there who said nothing to the audience nor offered any kind of apology. That was followed by 15 more minutes of DISH TV computer screens and random commercials from DISH TV on a computer screen on the movie screen. Complete and utter FAIL. I’d like my money back for 2 tickets, please, total was $23.71. Or at the very least, several passes for future Fathom Events classic films of which I have attended several and taken along friends. :- Not the best representation of your or TCM’s brand last night.

Picture was out of focus, sound was too low, screen was warped, floor lights were too bright, lines were too long, bathroom is too small, parking is nonexistent as far as I saw, seats are nothing special, layout is poorly designed (exits and entrances in particular). I informed a staff member about the picture and sound when the movie started. She said shed tell someone but the issue was never fixed. I still cant give it 1-star though because they gave us refunds, the food was decent, the rest of the staff was friendly, its a movie theater, and at least they played the movie we wanted to see, even if the picture and sound were poor. Only one other theater was playing it. But I would never go to Regal Gallery Place again. It doesnt even compare to the Regal at Springfield Town Center, or the AMC at Courthouse Plaza.

The theater is almost always too crowded, the seats are dirty and too close to each other. The snack lines take way too long because they rarely have more than 4 people working the line. I do not blame the theater too much on this however. Not only is Gallery Place Chinatown one of the most popular spots in DC, Regal Cinemas in Gallery Place is basically the only place one can see a movie in DC and expect them to be showing all of the titles you are interested in. As such, the theater has had to accommodate a larger crowd than is good for the customer experience. I would also guess that rent is too high for them to put good money into remodeling the seating experience. Even so, I would like to see efforts made to improve the customer experience since there are too few options available to us.

Although I frequent this theater regularly (given its location in Washington), I think you will find that is the case with just about everybody in DC. As a result, youll find less than courteous people who fill the stadium seating. Be prepared for cell phone calls, people talking at inappropriate times (is there ever an appropriate one at the movies?), texting and using Facebook (hello smart phone light!), and other behaviors that make the regular movie watcher want to quietly sob in frustration. On a positive note, I find this theater to be well maintained. The bathrooms, theaters, and other areas appear to be clean. If you are like me, and you live in DC without too many options, you may find yourself here regardless. But if you can find another venue, it might be worth your while.

I agree with the review about poor service at the concession stands. I arrived for an early showing of Hunger Games yesterday with a posse from my office. ONE cashier at work, and the person she was helping dawdled, dawdled, made small talk, and then walked to the other end of the lobby. When I walked up to the register, the cashier barked "Hes not done yet!" He had walked over there to pick up a straw, apparently. The cashiers response was rude, there were no apologies for the long wait or the understaffed counter, even though there were plenty of worker bees zipping around behind the counter. Needless to say, we all went back to the theater and did without. And this general attitude is a recurring issue for the concessions at Gallery Place.

Viewed the "War Horse" at the Regal Cinema Chinatown Gallery Place in Washington DC. After notifying the manager that the picture quality was poor (out of focus) the projectionist tried to adjust the projector (without success). After the movie I complained again that I had to watch a movie for 2.5 hours which was clearly out of focus. the manager replayed that it was a bad print and that I was not the only one that complained( this week!!!!) . i am outraged by the fact that Regal is knowingly showing bad prints. I will advise advise people to stay at home and rent a movie at least than you are guaranteed a good picture. Regal obviously does not care about quality of service but quantity of money they can generate.
