The main park for San Mateo. It has a rose garden with gazebo, large playground and choo choo train ride for the little ones (weekends only), tennis courts, the almost 50 year old Japanese Tea Garden (free, designed by landscape architect, Nagao Sakurai, of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo), picnic tables with BBQ grills, large open grassy areas for volleyball, frisbee, and to picnic and listen to the annual outdoor Thursday night Summer music concert series. There is a Recreation Center in the middle of the park which is also the Senior Center during the weekdays which the seniors in the area come to exercise, socialize with one another and eat lunch. In the mornings, you will see groups of seniors exercising and groups of mothers pushing baby carriages. No matter where you turn, you will see a happy dog with its owner. Very dog friendly (must wear leash). Poop bag dispensers are throughout the park. There is a large baseball diamond with good size stadium bench seating and a bocci ball court in front of the baseball diamond. Many families use the park during the weekends. During the warmer months lots of kid parties are being hosted in the picnic tables area and the kids are playing in the playground or riding the train. Central Park is beautifully maintained by the city. There is something blooming throughout the year. There is metered 1 story parking garage underneath the tennis courts and metered street parking.

Great park. Love the Rose Garden, the free admission Japanese Garden, the trees, the plants and flowers all around the park. Nice kids playground. Watch out for wide slide, super slippery and kids slide down fast. The kiddie train on the weekends in not bad either. There is parking under the Tennis Courts or park in the downtown lots and make it an nice outing with lunch or dinner at San Mateo downtown.

Very nice park. Lots of open area for setting up volleyball nets, grills for cooking. Decent play structures for kids. Tennis courts with paid parking underneath. Street parking was tough on the weekend. Some of the playground items (like swing) was broken. Could be maintained a bit better. Im not a fan of the big sandy area, since I dont like my kids to get super messy. I prefer wood chips or turf.

Nice park with a small Japanese garden and playground area. The park hosts as well a community center, a rose garden, baseball field, which transforms into an ice rink in winter time, and a ceramics studio with occasional pop up shows. Make sure to check for their sales and go visit the garden. The Japanese garden closes at 4 pm, so make sure to get there beforehand.

I used to go here every week when I was a kid. Back then, the playground was all metal and they had these giant drum shaped swings that fit four inside. The train around the park, the toy train inside the little eatery snack shack, softball, tennis courts, Multi Level parking garage. Its got a lot of immensities.

This place was the best during the Pokémon Go phenomenon last year. The park is well designed with a good loop I walk in, a playground for the kids, and even a Japanese garden! There is a parking lot across the street and a crosswalk directly into the park for easy access.

Great for dog walks and family fun. If you go, definitely take a stroll in their Japanese Garden. Even though its a bit packed sometimes, the koi fish pond and trees definitely mellow you out.
