Short version: Rude and outdated facilities. Long version: My experience. Me and my girlfriend were coming from a great day of early Valintines day celebrations. After waiting in line for about a half hour we get to the window, where reads a sign 2 ft. By 6 in. "Cash only". I say Im sorry I only have a debit card. The lady says (angry) "give me your phone, theres an ATM inside". I park. Walk inside, and the machine is broken. I tell the cashier at the counter. She roles her eyes and walks into the back without saying a word. I then inform the other lady working behind the counter and she says "she went to tell the guy who can work it". While Im waiting I see the two broken pinball machines and take a quick walk to the bathroom. I took two steps into the bathroom and just said no way, and went back to the ATM. 5 minutes later the guy comes out, pushes the keypad buttons on the ATM and tells me "its broken, youll have to go tell the ticket booth". I walk out to the ticket booth and tell the lady whats up. She says "the exits closed, youll have to wait for me to get through these cars and go out this way and find another ATM". I get back to my car and my girlfriend told me that yet another rude employee made her move my car because we were "in two spots". There is no center line to indicate where one spot ends and another begins. Finally the line is gone and I can leave, now that were 10 minutes into the actual movie. We didnt go back after that.

I love this place! The parking spots are raised so the front of your car is facing more toward the movie screen so you can see better and if you want to back into the space its perfect for a hatchback car or for a truck. Make sure you have a stereo that works and can tune into the radio station for the movie so you can hear, a car stereo, a boom box.... whatever works. One thing I wouldnt recommend is getting an iPhone radio app to try and find the radio station, I struggled with that for a long time and couldnt find the station and I had tried 6 different apps. I dont know but if you have a Sirius XM radio subscription and you download the app on your phone maybe it could work, but if you have Sirius XM in your car then i dont know why you would take the time to download the app if you havent already and log in when its a few presses, twists and clicks away with your car stereo. I recommend getting there at least 30 to an hour early because everyone tries to get front row seats. And if you have a running classic car definitely bring it because it makes it more fun and its even better if its a convertible.

My boyfriend and I were seeing a movie at 7. We got there around 6ish. The entrance was so hard to find. It was literally hidden. Other than that, it was awesome. It was my first Drive in movie, and I was very impressed. The quality in the picture was just as good if I were to watch it in a theater. I saw a lot of reviews on how amazing their nachos were. But I cant give a good review on them because the nacho cheese pump was broken, and the cheese was ice cold. The lady tried heating it up in the microwave, but that only did so much. (BTW, the lady helping us was sooooo sweet and nice. She was going out of her way to help us.) All in all, I would totally come back here. I definitely want to give their nachos another chance!

2 movies, 9.00 an adult, no one talking behind you, whats not to love at the Drive-in. We go at least once a month, sometimes more during the summer blockbuster movie run. Grounds are kept clean. Snack bar offers some common yummy snacks like popcorn, soda, candy, and nachos. Love their nachos! Good prices and free refills on popcorn and drinks. Family owned and operated, family friendly, never had a problem. Free jumps at the end of the night if your battery should die. Radios to rent if you dont have one. Screen large and picture quality good. Minor complaints, bathrooms need upgrading and once in awhile youll smell pot, but other then that, love going their with my family.

I have been coming here for over 20 years and would have given it 5 stars, but one of the workers here is so nasty and rude that I think this will be the last time I come. As you come in trying to find the perfect spot, she comes out yelling at everyone to move or you cant do this or that. Its too stupid to describe every detail but three times now she has just upset me so bad that I swear this will be my last. It used to be a fun experience, the concessions are ok, the price is fair, its just one lady destroying what used to be a fun family movie night. If you are lucky to come on a night that she isnt here then it is a five star experience.

Going to a drive-in is a throwback experience, and the Sunset doesnt disappoint, The snack bar and bathrooms are old school and remind you of Junior High, with cement floors and old counters. But everything works great; prices are pretty high and the popcorns salty (but nothings stopping you from bringing your own popcorn or even pizza--long live the drive-in! ). The screen is great and the sound system going through your car stereo is as good as your stereo. Everyone is hanging out, with people sitting in lawnchairs and in truck beds--a cool family event! Everyone should go--for $8 or $9, you get a double feature of first-run movies.

I grew up in San Luis Obispo and have spent may great hours at the Sunset Drive-In. I also know the owner, Larry Rodkey, very well, although I havent seen him in quite a few years. Wonderful place to spend an evening, watching a good movie and enjoying the nostalgia of days gone by. Ive also been to many of the swap meets they hold on Sundays. Its difficult to imagine San Luis Obispo without this great place. One of the many places to experience while in town. Treat your kids to something they have probably never experienced, visit the Sunset Drive-In and watch a movie with the family. Oh, yeah, tell Larry I said "Hi".

Love that theres a drive-in in town! This is something I grew up with, so I love that I can take my kids to watch movies outside and share the experience with them. But get there early! Im dropping 1 star because the radio reception (required to hear the movies) is lacking in the edges and rear of the parking lot. Bathrooms could also be cleaner. We bring our own healthy snacks to the movie, so I dont have experience with the snack bar.

Its not a bad drive-in but its not great either. Gets very crowded on weekends and plenty of people set up "camp" with chairs and coolers etc. Many kids running throughout the lot so drive carefully. Parking in the center region of the screen is obstructed by concessions and restroom building if you are in a smaller vehicle (ie not a truck). Probably not going back but it was a fun-ish evening.
