Protip: When the line is long and youre thinking about going to the 2 kiosks to the left of the ticket booths and they are only marginally shorter, youre in luck as most people dont realize there are 3 more kiosks for self serve behind the standalone box office. Great if you get no discounts like me. Im realizing that SDs movie theater coverage is kind of lacking. For the general public to watch main stream movies and not indie, small, old or grengy theaters is lacking for large parts of SD Proper. Interesting funneling affect and to have 2 gaps between tickets and concessions. With unclear exits and entrance protocols you must navigate more than usual. Staff nice, but the concessions man are they slow. 5 minutes for my pretzel. Super oily, not sure what that was all about. Good condiments and condiment cups, thats a plus. The seasonings which are at some places free arent here, but also usually sold out of the good stuff. The combos all have the biggest drink options which is why they are all expensive. Candy and snacks arent clearly displayed and the popcorn machine actually blocks the menu for half of the registers. Theater is standard and the seats are initially pretty comfortable, but after about an hour they lose support and become uncomfortable. Theater is fairly clean, no lingering odor, but each time I go to a packed house and Im remotely not early I hate the navigating. Ive simply been too spoiled to not prefer better. The sound up front for non Imax is lacking and they need to work on overall acoustics. Standard cold-ish temperature and post show bathroom rush. Napkins are kind of weak here. Not going to go too deep on parking as its shared with the mall portion and its only basic décor.

I call this review "How to score free movie tickets, the wrong way!" To start, Ill say the obvious: movies are awesome! So what better way to start the year than to watch Doctor Strange with the family? We chose this theater because the screen is high quality and I consider it a (questionably) fair trade off to the high ticket price and old seats. So far so good! But get this: the theaters policy is that you cant save your seat fifty minutes in advance by placing a random belonging (read: shirt) there. No big deal; everyone knows this. Which leads to my disappointment with this place in particular. And the staff who managed the following situation: As the movie is gearing to start, some guy shows up to where were seated and complains about having saved the spots were occupying (reminder: this isnt your kids graduation) and shines his smartphone flashlight at us, saying he wont go until we find somewhere else to sit (unless I want to "take this outside". What is this, a dive bar?) No loud voices (thank goodness), just some respectfully contained harassment! Did I mention we arrived twenty minutes before showtime? If theres anything left over from the last showing, its presumedly abandoned. Long story short, we move over to a less desirable location because its the decent thing to do. I mean, why cause a scene? Although it sure isnt the experience we paid $40 for. So we scored those gnarly comp tickets, right? Wrong! But guess who did.

Im generally a Parkway Plaza Regal Cinemas die hard devotee... it is close to home and with my regal card I accumulate points to get free stuff... and the mall is indoors for those cold days or super hot days. Ive been here twice in the last month and I remember why I stay away... Ticket prices are stupid expensive... they try to con you into their rewards program with the purchase of the $12 year membership... um no thanks. Im pretty sure these are the only two times I have been here in the last two years so that wouldnt do me well at all... Their snack prices are just as expensive as every where else (except when I buy over priced pop corn and soda and candy at Regal I get my POINTS!!!) but they pre package their popcorn and keep it under heaters in the bag until someone orders... yuck. Both times my popcorn was cold and stale tasting... and when I pay $16 for a popcorn and soda I expect it to be hot and the soda to be bubbly. They do have those neat coke machines that allow you to pick what you want so thats cool, but 5 guys has that too so what?! The seats are seats and the screens are screens. Ive seen a couple good movies here that I could have enjoyed just as much else where. None of the workers stood out as being exceptional or like they even enjoyed their job or overly friendly... it just was. Meh...

It was great untill the rude security guard ruined it all. I want to know who he was because idk who he thinks he is but hes just rude and abuses his power, I was pushing buttons on the soda machine and he got buthurt... he kept yelling at my brother "ITS TIME TO GO" then my brother said "what was that?" and he yelled again "ITS TIME TO GO". Then i looked at him and he raised his voice once again to me. I was aggravated at this point and replied "can we not refill our soda?" And again he says "ITS TIME TO GO". I feel like this was wrong because i payed for the soda and he wouldnt allow me to fill it because of his egotistical actions. It is really pointless how he made a big deal when the machine wasnt working. I know i am taking this too far but i feel violated of my rights as a civil american citizen, this shows how people can abuse their power when its given to them. Something must be done

Going to see Superbad and that reminded me... I think this is my favorite mainstream theater, and even on the really rare times that Hillcrest and AMC have the same movie showing...I think Id rather come here even though Hillcrest Theaters is only a short walk away. Im 61, most of that in the legs. Im skinny with a pretty bony butt. And Im fidgety to begin with. The seats at Hillcrest are ridiculously uncomfortable for me. Thats not a problem here. Not at all. I can slump, I can sit up straight, I can raise the armrest and cuddle the lady....it just adds up to a much more enjoyable experience, even if the knowledge that Im in Mission Valley is detracting from that experience.

Buying a ticket here is notoriously slow. For example, there are now eight movies starting within the next 35 minutes. They have ONE guy selling tickets. Im not sure how many people they want to see movies here. If there are 50 ticket purchasers, each at one minute. Lets just say other theaters shoot for zero wait time. For $14/ticket, the most expensive theater Ive been to....to make matters worse, for the privilege of buying popcorn and a drink for another $14 (at what 97% gross margins?), there is also almost always a wait because they spore toy cant afford another $8/hr worker?

DONT WATCH IMAX HERE! this is the worst imax theater i have ever been to. when I first got in it was burning hot in there so i went to complain about it to guest services he said he would fix it and it barely changed the Temperature. Furthermore the beginning previews had NO sound on them. meanwhile the lights gliched and would not turn off. Along with that the sound system was horrible compared to other imax theaters I have been to. if I could give it 0 stars I would. they wisted my money on a horrible experience. I am never going there again I advise you to stay away from here.
