This place was recently remodeled. Fantastic! Not so fantastic... the staff. Ordered our tickets from a girl behind the ticket booth. She had a completely glazed over look like she had been smoking something all day. Well let it slide. Went to order popcorn. "What do you want?" were literally the words that concession stand guy said. (his name was NOE) Not to mention a scowl on his face! He was SO completely rude and unpleasant, and definitely made our visit memorable for the poor customer service. We went to the ticket taker, some long haired hipster who also seemed like we were doing him some HUGE disservice when we asked him what theater our movie was in. "I told you, theater four." Come on Management! The recent remodel was the best thing that happened to your theater. Now fire half of your awful staff and replace them with smiling faces, and maybe, just maybe, well come back.

Never knew this theater was here until tonight. There was some renovation work being done when we visited, but it did not affect our visit. Theater wise it is small, maybe 60 people max per room, and almost impossible to have a bad seat, besides the very front rows maybe. Before the movie started, an actual person stood up, introduced herself, and asked everyone to turn off their phones, and since they are a small theater, requests can be made for AC temperature if it was too hot or cold. First time Ive ever watched a movie and not froze. The crowd was older folks mostly, say 35+ and respectful of watching a movie unlike of what you get mostly when visiting large theaters on a Saturday night. The only thing kind of off was that the rooms were not clearly labeled with the movies they were showing, so there was some slight confusion initially.

I really liked the vibe of this "discount theater." It was less than $10 a ticket for a 5pm showing. They gave a curtain speech at the beginning of our movie with the reminder to turn off cell phones, and announced that they would be showing 4 previews selected to go with our film. They were for non-mainstream movies, some foreign, some indy. It was really cool. The seats are comfy recliners and it was all at a similar level, unlike the normal stair set up of most theaters. My only complaints would be that the projectors luminosity wasnt very bright, so certain bits of the movie looked off or dark (I could tell because I was seeing this film for the second time with a friend) and some of the speakers sounded like their drivers may be a bit blown out. Most people probably wouldnt notice though, so enjoy checking this place out!

It is great to have a theater like this in the heart of an urban area showing alternative, indie, art-house and independent documentary movies. Although it is clean and well-kept, you can tell the theater is showing its age and it isnt as up to date or modern as its competitors. There is underground parking in the center that offers free parking when you validate at the theater. The snacks and coffees offered are better than the average theater but are more expensive. Ticket prices run about average.

INTERIOR UPDATED! San Diegos [second] favorite art-house cinema [the favorite would be The Ken] has recliner seating that gets you nearly flat (if you enjoy that sort of thing). The rows are VERY wide to allow for easy movement. New flooring, new carpet, aisle lighting, walk-up kiosk ticket purchasing and counter ticket purchasing too. Good selection of movie snacks. As always, dont forget to get your parking coupon validated.

Great spot to catch an indie film or an old flick. The theater itself is small, but cozy. I like the Hillcrest location because there are lots of dining options within walking distance if youre interested in grabbing a bite to eat, or a drink before/after the film. There is also a parking structure under the theater that will offer validation, so you dont have to worry about struggling to find street parking.

Love this theater! The best part? Italian sodas! Its not as tiny as the Landmark theater on Adams and it specializes in independent and foreign films. The parking lot makes it easy since you dont have to fight for Hillcrest street parking. Be sure to bring your parking ticket to the booth so you can validate! You can also validate at the candy store downstairs.

Ive always appreciated this theater and the movies that they show. However, lately it feels discouraging to see the commercials that they screen before the movie. Maybe they could also display the times the movies actually start so that those of us who go there to get away from all the commercialism of Hollywood can avoid the pre-show screenings?

Great movie theatre, especially if youve got different tastes. They usually play more obscure movies or movies catering to the LGBT community in addition to the regular box office showings so theres usually something for everyone. They even have free popcorn toppings which is honestly my favorite part.

Its a good alternative to the theaters that show the latest blockbusters and Hollywood assembly line productions. If youre into foreign films or indie films, there arent a lot of other options in San Diego. But its always been a smooth experience for me - competent staff, clean restroom, etc.

Smaller movie theater, clean, friendly staff with a nice courtyard to sit at outside. Parking on the street may be a little difficult, but there is underground parking with elevators that bring you right to the theater level. Insider Tip: Parking on the street is free on Sundays!

Great selection of independent films, and with the recent remodel this theater is one of my favorites. They have fully automated reclining seats. The staff is very friendly and attentive (they changed the temperature for us). They also validate parking.

I love the movies presented in this place but I would go to other places for movies who are not only there. The seating is not very comfortable and the view of the screen is not good and with a bad neck angle. For that price I would have expected more.

Great movie theater serving a good selection of smaller films. They have validated parking in the garage below . Seats were comfortable and the staff was very nice. The food selection is typical movie ranges and the price was not too crazy

If you havent been to this theater in a while its really well redone, they have leather reclining seats, glass Exteriors, a resurface fancy Lobby, and a full bar it looked like. Redone approx June 2017. Wonder where they got the budget!

The front of the cinema is beautiful. The lobby was under construction so I cant critique that. Customer service was quick. Pricey food. The cinema room I was in was spacious. Seating was carpeted and comfy, no recliners.

Been going there for years! Intimate atmosphere, always great service, love that they serve delicious hot tea. Recent renovation is great. So thankful this theater is in the neighborhood, always showing quality cinema.

The barely existent incline really hits hard if you are short (or a child.) Im glad no one sat in front of of me because I could barely see over the chair in front of me. Everything else was pretty a typical experience.

The recent renovation is lovely. Super comfy and huge reclining seats. Ticket prices are still reasonable. They are always offering the less-mainstream options. I also love the in-person speech preceding the previews.

Why is it so difficult to find show times for up coming movies? You would think that would be a priority in their on line listings. Even the live person I spoke to was not sure how long a movie would be running.
