For those of you thinking you have an IMAX theater in your area, think again! I recently saw Star Trek: The IMAX Experience and, having been to a real IMAX theater in downtown Sacramento, I can tell you this is no IMAX experience whatsoever! The screen is a little bit larger than a typical screen, but its nowhere near the massive, massive screen of a true IMAX theater. The sound system is nowhere near as complete or robust as the true IMAX theaters, and in general, I could not tell the difference between what I saw in that "IMAX" converted theater and a movie playing anywhere else with a screen of comparable size. For your information, IMAX is starting to slowly kill its brand in a foolish attempt to trick people into thinking theyre getting the real IMAX experience. The real IMAX experience is immersive; you entire field of view is surrounded by screen: up, down, left, right. The theater is tiered much higher than a converted one, meaning you do NOT see the person in front of you. Its literally just YOU AND THE SCREEN, nothing else. Walk into a converted theater, like the one that this one has, and tell me that wherever you look, theres screen. Tell me that you do not see the person in front of you. Tell me that your heart and entire body shook and rattled when they did the sound test. Its a lie, and IMAX should be ahshamed of itself for trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Its too bad Star Trek (and other films that have been converted) are not playing on TRUE IMAX SCREENS, but rather these slightly larger and shinier screens that masquerade as the real thing. Its a hoax. Buyer beware.

Love the imax here, some have said its not as big as the Esquire imax and that is true, but you dont have to deal with going to downtown sac which for me is never fun. As far as the experience i would say its better than the Esquire as well, also if youre a larger size person the seats in the imax theater are big and comfy. Also im not sure about a previous review saying the imax screen was smaller than the Palladio regular screen, i have been to the Palladio and the screen is no where near the size of the imax screen. As for the complaints about the spoiled brat El Dorado kids, this is somewhat true, but if u go at peak times and to a super anticipated movie that will be same at almost every theater. We tend to go to the last showing and usually get the best seats with little to no complaints about other people there. About the only complaint Ive had is one time the 3d glasses were so cheap that lenses were blurry, which made it hard to watch. But every other time the cheap glasses worked fine. Here is a dark pic of the screen size and first 5 rows of the bottom section of the theater to show u how wide it is, this was taken at the top middle seat. Cant comment on the screen size or seats in the regular theater since we have only been to IMAX theater.

Just your run of the mill movie theater. Ticketing line was quick. Ordering hot food is awkward..starts with an apology from the vendor that it will take 10-15min. No worries as we have to go & locate seats the old fashioned way. (missing Santikos Palladiums..advance assign seats!) About 10min later Im standing to the side of the snack bar... After another 5min & I ask the same vendor who took our order if the corn-dog nuggets were up (gross- they werent for me) He robotic-ally begins "its going to take 10-15min" & began to recharge me. I then thought is all the pot smoking really effecting this kid or is he just jerking me around.. didnt go Tommy DiVito on the fella. I slowly explained & showed him my receipt. Finally the order came out & they placed it inside a clear box. I let the same vendor know my order was in the warmer behind him. 20min later I was back in my seat. To my chagrin my large popcorn was full of bottom bits! So he was Jerking me around!!

I giving Regal a 3. Not for bad movies or bad staff, specifically for prices. Here is my story. I was taking my daughter and her friends to see a matinee. Checked Paladio in Folsom prices were $7 pp for matinee before 6pm on weekday, but their time frames did not work with our schedule so my daughter checked Regal times, they had a matinee that worked. We forgot to check price just figured it would be comparable to folsom. Went to the bank, got $25 cash...go to Paladio, ask for 3 matinee tickets and the lady says that will be $28.50, I said did we get matinee price, she said yes matinee price us $9.50 each...What? Rather than upset her, me and my daughter I paid it..but really??? that is $2.50 more than the Paladio. Im sorry that is wrong, its uncalled for. So here is my lesson. Next time I go to movies... matinee or other, Ill go the Paladio. Ps: the snacks are higher at Regal too!

As Palladio has focus issues more times than not, I prefer driving a little bit further to EDH. As mentioned, the IMAX screen is not the same as the true IMAX theater downtown, but IMAX is extending their brand into these different aspect ratio theaters. My IMAX complaint is actually about the projector. I can see the pixels, and the beauty of a true IMAX theater was that it was very high resolution large format film. The quality of the IMAX 3D is good, though, and the sound system is good. For anyone with sensitivity to volume, you should really purchase some musicians ear plugs that still allow you to hear but reduce the decibel level to something comfortable for you. The theater as a whole is good, and reasonably well run with good promotions and discounts and loyalty program.

I will admit that the theater itself is pretty decent. Good looking building, fairly clean and nice seats and stuff. What brings it down is that they have that fake imax b.s. going on (once youve seen the real deal, no lame imitators will do) and the snacks are ridiculously expensive (2 medium drinks & 2 candy = $20 WTF!). I could ignore the snack prices since most people bring their own stuff into theaters if they had Imax as same price as reg movies, instead of $5 extra but then they couldnt rip people off so it would never happen! I havent really had any extensive experiences with the staff so I cant say if theyre particularly good or not, just looks like regular movie theater-working teens like every theater has.

Ive always liked this theatre because the Town Center is a nice area. However, with places like the Palladio and Studio Movie Grill also being close by and having luxury reserved seating, I havent been in awhile. I ended up here last weekend to see Beauty and the Beast because the other locations with reserved seats were sold out. I was pleasantly surprised to find this theatre did have reserved seats in a few of their showings (but not all) and even more surprised to see how nice they were. Its my favorite seating for those types of theatres thus far. Lots of space for people to walk by, leg rest, back reclines as well. Docked a star because if all of their movies had reserved seating Id be here more often.
