Beware!!! Sign says open, but lady says shell shoot! We went online to the Slaughter Ranch website to find information for visiting. The website states "just come on out and see us! Were open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm (except Christmas and New Years)". So we drove the 1 1/2 hours to the Slaughter Ranch. On our way we passed two brown historic signs that made us aware the Slaughter Ranch was up ahead. Once we got to the ranch there was a sign on the gate that said "We are open Wednesday through Sunday" just like the website had stated. We arrived there at approximately 11:00 on a Saturday. Once we went through the gate we drove down and parked in the parking area. We got out of the truck and were greeted by a man who said they were closed. He said there should have been a sign put out saying they were closed, we told him there was no sign. He apologized and again said they were closed. We got in the vehicle to leave. As we were backing out a lady came running towards us with tree trimmer in her hands screaming "we are closed" over and over again. She continued screaming other things at us like "there is a closed sign on the gate", "didnt you see the gate was closed", "thats how people get shot", "im calling border patrol on you". We tried to tell her there is no closed sign but she would not stop screaming for us to get a single word in. We left and will never go back. There are way to many good museums out there who treat there visitors correctly to bother with this one. If they do not want visitors they need to change there website or remove it completely. They also need to put a no trespassing sign on the gate. I have lived on a REAL ranch my entire life and i know proper gate etiquette. If the sign says "no trespassing, private property, do not enter, closed etc you dont enter. If the gate says "we are open" you assume they want business. So beware, if you decide to go to the slaughter ranch you may waste hours of drive time plus money on fuel just to be told they are closed by a crazy woman on a power trip who threatens to shoot and call border patrol on you.

RATING IS ONE STAR-- OR ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE This occurred on Wednesday, Oct 8th, 2014. We were staying in Naco AZ with an RV group and wanted to visit area attractions. So off we went to the Slaughter Ranch and Museum. We drove up to the gate at 2:58 PM- we followed a lady on a off road four wheeler from the slight right turnoff of from Geronimo Trail road to the entrance gate. She closed it in our face. She had long, curly red hair. She informed us, after closing the gate, that she locks the gate at 3PM; "there is to much to see in 30 minutes" and "she had things to do". We said we would still like to go in and would leave by 3:30. She very rudely and bluntly informed us that "I am not letting you in; but you can come back tomorrow" We pleaded with her to no avail. We had driven from Bisbee specifically to see this site; We had heard about it from an article in "Arizona Highways" Oct 2014. After a 50 + mile drive and 14 miles of dirt road we had no interest in returning. We were quite interested to see the ranch and had only come this far to see this Ranch and Museum. I would suggest to visitors that the hospitality of the hosts precludes a visit . I believe they have only two employees. I will forward this on to their main office in Sun City AZ- and to Arizona Highways. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Historic ranch right on the border with Mexico. Originally the ranch spanned across the border. If you want to learn about ranching in Southern Arizona and about the Border, definitely go here! The new owners are lovely folks who have done a fantastic job at keeping the place looking good. They also have some really cute pets.

A very historic ranch situated in the Sonoran and Chihuahua deserts area. A 1911 US Army fort was here as well.
