This is a GEM of a museum! Extensive collection of minerals, gems, fossils from all over the world. There are also displays of mining equipment, with a nod to the history of the settlement of Colorado by miners. This museum does a great job of appealing to both children and adults. The mock mine showcasing fluorescent minerals is very interesting. One of the best displays is near a large window overlooking the town of Golden. The information posted by the window describes the geologic processes that formed the Clear Creek area and the town site. There is also a very nice short outdoor trail with large specimens of dinosaur tracks and other geologic wonders. This is a "dont miss" on your list of places to see when in Golden. And its FREE, though do consider making a donation when you check out the items in the gift shop.

Very cool and its free. Could spend all day there if you really like rocks, gems, minerals. After a while they all started to look the same. I wish it was more educational. Maybe more information on how these are mined, how they are formed naturally, how they can be made artificially, and how you can pick up mining as a hobby. We thought it would be cool to find these in nature on your own, but dont know how to do it. I dont know if there are any guided tours. Would be with it if there was.

Free geology museum with samples available for purchase. Great layout, nice exhibits, rare samples, informative staff and great prices on mineral and gem samples. My family enjoys each visit to this museum and purchase nearly all of our non-local personal geology samples from the gift shop. I have been to several geology and mining museums, this is my favorite.

Quite simply one of the best geology museums in the country. Hosted by a a school whose name says it all, this museum offers a staggering array of rocks from the mundane to the exotic. The collection is only part of the appeal, though, as the collections might seem a bit dull if you dont take advantage of one of the fantastic tours offered.

This museum has a fantastic assortment of minerals and fossils. The display downstairs that shows gems under long and short wave UV lights is really neat. Cant beat the staff...curator Bruce Geller has so much enthusiasm for the museum hes such an asset there.

Public no cost museum that is great for kids and adults. The hours during school holidays can be variable so be sure to check that they are open. Downstairs has much more interactive kid friendly displays as well.

I got to see a rock from the Moon. I heard this is a "hard" school to get into, school of mines get it? I know nothing about gemology but this place made me want to learn. Awesome! Pay for parking 2 hours.

This place is a hidden "gem" in an unassuming building on the Mines campus. Incredible collection of minerals, gems, and fossils from around the world, and even a piece of the moon. I could spend hours here.

Worth spending an hour or two in here just to look at all the pretty rocks. Wish it had been built on a bigger space to accommodate for more experiences. Feels like a high school science lab in some places.

Amazing rock collection. Make sure to see both moon rocks and the UV reactive rock display. Refrain from making crude jokes at the suggestive looking formations. At least not out loud
