This was a fabulous museum. Ive been to a number of mining museums around North America and this one ranks at the top. Housed in the former high school, this museum is a pleasant maze of artifacts and history. The rocks and minerals are especially well-done, as well as an intricate Diorama room highlighting the history of mining in the area. There was so much to look at and read, we could have stayed there all day! We went on a rainy day in late May and it wasnt very busy. It was well-worth the admission price! Definitely recommend if youre ever going through Leadville.

Very interesting multi level museum with each floor being filling with fun and educational facts about the history of mining, not only in the surrounding area, but all over the world! Go into the Moon and outer space exhibit and you will even see rocks from the moon and meteors that fell from space. I like the interactive displays and even the mock caves, mining shafts and tunnels that they have through out the whole building. Anybody interested in geology would love this place. Go up to the fourth floor terrace and see an amazing view of the whole town of Leadville.

Was at the museum around two on June 16 2016 and thought the museum was great but the guy who was working there was a complete jerk. He said he was a retired miner but he is really in the wrong job. Not friendly and on our way out he told me that I couldnt use the drinking fountain. Worst museum experience ever.

Great for children with lots of exhibits and even a space exhibit. It has a whole room with dioramas and even replicas of mines and cabins with lots of fun facts about Leadville. It even has a courtyard. If you are in Leadville, this is 100% the BEST thing to do in the Town of Leadville!

Having visited this museum years ago, we were very pleased to see the additions and rennovations to this museum. Well done! This is a very child-friendly place (took our grandkids) with lots of hands-on exhibits and interesting dioramas. Worth the trip.

A nice small town Museum. The lady working while we were there was very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. There is a lot to see in this multi-level museum. If you enjoy minerals, they have specimens from around the world.

Went for the first time after only living in Leadville for a year and a half. I still havent seen everything. Everything is so interesting I move through here so slow. I hear we might be getting a moon rock on loan.

If you like rocks or gems you wont be disappointed. I was surprised they had so many different minerals on display, they have a huge amount of beautiful specimens from all over the world.

The only reason I dont 1-star the site for hypocrisy is that it did have some nice exhibits. Its really a museum for mine **owners.** Nothing about Big Bill Heyward, unions, etc.

Extremely large collection of minerals! Fascinating history of mining! Educational & fun. Might just be the best use of 3 - 4 hours of your time in Leadville. Bring the kids!

Awesome exhibits with lots of local history and a emphasis on how mining shaped the area. Would recommend spending at least 2 hours to take everything in.
