I have been an employee of MJs, I have been a customer of MJs and the Allen Theatre, I have acted on the stage, and I have been a good friend of the Owners, Skip and Martha Hicks for the past 20 years. This place is top notch. I will always have a place in my heart for The Allen Theatre and MJs Coffee House. If you have never seen a movie here or enjoyed the delicious variety of food and snacks, you are truly missing out on a gem. Skip takes the movie going experience to a personal level. He treats everyone like they are family and runs his business to totally satisfy the needs of the guest. If at any time you walk into this establishment and feel in any way slighted, Skip, Martha, and staff will do everything they can to accommodate your every need. The ambience of the Theatre, the friendliness of the Staff and Owners, and the top quality products served at MJs make this one of Central Pas most loved Theatres.

I have only visited this theater twice: In March 2012, I saw "The Artist" here and Oscar winning best picture of 2011 was superb and the service here was very good-for this visit. The second visit here, on Wed 2/27/2013 was to see "Silver Linings Playbook" which was a good movie, yet the staff was not on their game that day I visited for the 1:30PM afternoon showing. I reported some rude patrons to staff twice and they did not do anything about it! Rude patrons chatting throughout the movie-unacceptable, the staff should have warned those unruly patrons to quiet down or get kicked out! Was the staff to concerned about making a few more dollars and not concerned about rude patrons ruining the movie viewing experience for the rest of us-like this gentleman?!?!? I WAS AND STILL AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SECOND VISIT!! Avoid this place-staff is not very professional or on the ball-sad, sad, sad!!!

The new owner is very grumpy and comes off standoffish and rude. Not the type of person who should own a small town coffee shop. My biggest problem and the main reason I dont give my money to this establishment anymore is because they offer a special on Tuesdays called "slice priced Tuesdays" where some of the menu items are half price, but theres a catch. I usually order a turkey panini, however, when I go on Tuesdays to get a good deal, they always tell me they are "out of cibatta bread" which is a lie. If I go on any other day of the week (when I pay full price of $8.50) my panini comes on cibatta bread. Go on a Tuesday and they are magically out of cibatta bread so I settle for sourdough at $4.25. False advertisement, lying to customers, rude and greedy owner. Dont waste your money.

Hello, I have always have had an excellent experienced going to the Allen Theater. I really appreciate the authentic hospitality the staff shares with me. The owner ( Skip ) once apologized to me about the noise ( music ) permeating the theater from the outside patio of the wine establishment next door, and Skip insisted on giving me a free ticket to another movie event in the future, what a guy! and I still watched the currant movie. Skip you are few and far between. I live in Colonial Park, but well worth the drive to the Allen Theater. I feel the sense of Tranquility... PS: the food is great too!!! Thank you, Ron Weaver

Yuck! Stopped in for coffee at 8:00 on a Friday morning. I should have not even walked in - they didnt even turn the lights on. I hesitantly ordered a latte and sat at a window table for some light. The latte was ok. The tables - all of them, were dirty. Plenty of flies as well. Did I mention I was the only customer? They claimed they were "open for breakfast" but there didnt seem to be anything in the case that was breakfast related and after looking around I decided not to press my luck. There has to be a better option.

went to see American sniper at the Allen theater and would have given 4 stars but when I went to pay, the cashier told me they do not accept debit or credit cards only cash which I was short on by 4 dollars. She told me though I could go into the coffee shop and use the ATM machine, which charged me 1.50 and then my bank will charge me the same $1.50 also. If there would have been no charge for the ATM that would have been nice, but them inconveniencing me convenienced them.

Comfy seats with cup holders. Can take anything from Cafe into theater... Coffee, ice cream, sandwiches, soup, paninis, etc. Cheaper than national theater chains. Just installed latest Dolby 7.1 sound system. Locally owned and operated. They even have a red velvet curtain that opens when movie starts. Only shows 1 or 2 previews too! Matinee are $7, otherwise $9. And 2 sodas plus popcorn for less than $10. Im not affiliated with them... Just love supporting local businesses.

Theater/Cafe/Coffe Shop/AMAZING! First off their sandwiches are awesome! On Tuesdays they are half off too. the coffee is great and the theater is not the typical theater, it is like taking a walk back in time without sacraficing picture or sound quality. The only reason I am giving MJs 5 stars is because the is not a 6th star.

Love the old time theatre that has been wonderfully restored. My wife and I love to also stop into MJs for a milkshake or to have a couple sandwiches. The food is good. Just remember that it is a coffeehouse not an actual restaurant. They have made themselves an integral part of the downtown.

I love this movie theatre. After going there to see many movies over a period of many years, Ive become spoiled and have lost all desire to see a movie in the typical, modern, cinema. The Allen Theatre makes going to the movies an event to be savored.

We love the Allen. Its our favorite place to see a movie. Its a lovingly restored old time movie theatre thats made itself a vital part of Annville, Lebanon Valley College (which is across the street), and central Pennsylvania. Atmosphere is terrific!

For the coffee house: Love the place and the atmosphere. Just wish the service was better. Seems like the associates are always in a bad mood or just dont care. Its a shame. Theater experience is always fine. Great sound and a large screen.

Absolutely my favorite theatre to see a movie. Old fashioned single screen, beautifully redone, very clean. Digital with a fabulous sound system, and food available next door at MJs Coffeehouse.

Atmosphere & concept are great coffee of all types is terrible... We tried a flavored latte, capachino, & the brew the beans were either burned or the brew was watery... Service is always slow

So happy that they are back up and running! Was able to see Star Wars on their new Digital System and new surround sound. Great experience and happy to see the new system with a great movie.

Great place for a movie if they have what you want playing. Small single theater with a coffee shop makes for a relaxing evening and food, beverages, and entertainment all at one place.
