The sound system and screen are fantastic! The seating and tables are just too nice: wing back chairs on wheels. The food is better than average in comparison to any other theater in Hampton Roads. The seating and tables are better than any other theater in Hampton Roads in comparison. The ticket price is between $6 to $7 dollars a person. No, it is not Steinhilbers, or even Outback, but it beats anything else in the category of a dining movie theater. My recommendation is the sandwich items or the Nacho Platter with Beef Barbecue, Chips, Salsa, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, and Sour Cream for $7.95. Get the Jalapeno Peppers for 60 cents too! Extra beef for $4.95 and you are set for two people dining. Opps, get a pitcher of your favorite soft drink or something a little nicer. Now do the math, its cheaper than the chain theaters, and the total experience is far richer in comparison! Yeah, its Portsmouth, but I have never been bothered by anyone when parking some distance from the theater. Usually, there are police standing by at the farthest intersection on this block from the theater to protect citizens. The bottom line is that if you want a more than the average experience in a movie theater, for a first-rate cinematography experience, The Commodore is what you are looking for!

My husband and I always look forward to watching movies at the Commodore Theatre. Since our first time, this has been our theatre of choice. It is the most beautifully restored historic theatre with the big screen and state-of-the-art sound system. We love the option of enjoying a meal or a snack on the first floor, sitting at a table with a telephone to place our order. Sometimes we opt to sit in the balcony with the nearby concession stand where we purchase the best freshly popped popcorn. Both floors offer immaculate restrooms, which is a must on our list. I especially appreciate the beautiful first-floor Ladies Lounge that is more than accommodating. We would expect an experience like this to be costly, but it has been the most economical choice for us to view a movie and enjoy all of the benefits offered at this exceptional theatre. We highly recommend the Commodore!

I wouldnt recommend this place if you want that movie experience. On every table, theres a lamp that will be in your way and the seats dont tower down like in a regular movie theater. Theres at least two tables in the same slope, which makes it hard to see in front of you if theres someone there. Youre not always going to get the seat you want, even if the seat is not taken because staff will most likely give preference to a larger group. The one thing I disliked the most is that when staff came around to collect the check, they could not wait until the end of the movie. They wanted to collect the check now, which really ruined my movie experience because I had to worry about paying the check instead of enjoying the movie that I payed for.

Im confused on everyone saying the food is so amazing its ok. Been here twice the first time I got the brisket nachos, they were cold and the cheese was half melted. Me and my husband went last night ordered cheese sticks they were ok didnt really like the marinara sauce we ordered at like 615 didnt get our chicken strips until after the movie started and our fries were cold. My baked potato "bacon bits" wasnt fully cooked & we didnt get our dessert till the movie was almost over the ice cream was melted already like it was sitting back there before they finally decided to bring it out. Other then food, the atmosphere is nice and the sound quality is good as well. Just dont expect much from the food or service.

Not once have I had a guest that has visited our favorite movie experience and failed to have a good time. The best kept secret in hosting guests resides in the heart of downtown Porstmouth, VA. From Hawaii to Italy all our guests have remarked about the uniqueness of the experience. My family frequent the Commodore Theater and find it a most pleasureable change of pace, The clientele is cordial and the service can be lengthy at times but more than worth the wait - the movie may begin shortly after youre served if youre lucky. Its really a cool place to enjoy a light fun meal, drinks and an incredible movie. Would not be surprised to see more businesses using this venue for a moral booster - we do!

Always love coming here. Ive seen so many great movies here, and the 7.1 surround sound always makes it sound amazing. I have yet to sit in the balcony, where Im told the sound is best, mainly because I cant pass up their food. They have many meal options and even serve a few beers and wines. I almost always get their nachos and highly recommend them. They make you buy the tickets day of the show, and you cant buy them online, but its well worth the trip downtown to get your tickets. Theyve restored the place nicely and it has an amazing old-theater feel to it. And of course, the wait staff is always friendly, and the owner is interactive with the guests.

Love this old school renovated theater! Sound and image is top notch, you can sit at a table pretty much anywhere and still have a good view. We got seated at a table all the way to the side and I was concerned it would be tiresome to watch the movie, but once it gets started you wont even notice youre not front and center. Food is decent, but waaay cheaper then some of the other new fancy eat-in theaters. I wouldnt put too much faith in drink refills though, just stick with water for a few cents and you wont regret paying $3 for soda and never seeing a refill. Overall, my wife and I love coming here!

Just saw WonderWoman here with my wife and usually dont have any problems with anything here but today was an exception...the owner announced at the time tickets went on sale that children under 8 were not allowed and somehow someone disregarded this and had to deal with a whining kid through a good portion of the movie, next the table beside us had a man on a work call during the movie for about 5 minutes which was very distracting, and 3 different waiters tried to take our menu before we could even order, so this was one time I was very disappointed at this movie...food was good tho..

Best kept secret in Old Town. This is a classic throw back movie theater from the outside, but inside it is a dinner and movie "event" with state of the art sound and visual system. Great for date nights, family and friends get togethers and when out of town visitors arrive. I saw Jurassic World there recently. This is better than other movie theaters because it is a smaller crowd, the bathrooms are clean and they serve dinner prior and bring drink during. My only regret is that I didnt go to the Commodore sooner. I would strongly recommend to my friends and family.

They double sold one of the cables we reserved, forcing 6 patrons to sit at a table for 4. The staff isnt trained to stay out of site while serving or even to not approach during pivotal scenes. They will bus the table and block the screen during the final act. The screen needs to be smoothed out in the corner(s). They only offer refills on water and tea, not coffee. They will not take orders after the show starts which is understandable. But not offering a refill on simple coffee, which tasted like instant to begin with, when they offer it on tea is inexcusable.
