This theater is a must visit landmark for Milwaukee film lovers. I have seen several films here, having been in each of the theater sections. The middle theater is my favorite, being the most extravagant and beautiful of the three. The middle theater is reserved for new or popular films, so be prepared to be in the other theaters for older or less popular films. The seats are typical of a classic theater. They are cushioned and have cup holders on the back of the chairs in front of you, but they are not recliners as presented in more modern theaters. Any seat will give you a good view of the screen though. The concessions are typical of a theater. They do serve alcohol, but I dont suggest getting any mixed drinks there. I had a whiskey sour once before and it was so sour my face actually puckered. Go to one of the many bars surrounding the area after a movie and have a discussion with your partner about the film experience instead. The thing I love most about The Oriental is the audience. Audience members are always respectful, quiet and mature. Everyone is there to enjoy film. The Oriental is a must visit in Milwaukee. Go see the latest indie film there, you wont regret it.

I am wondering why the Oriental Theatre obtains a score of 4.8 instead of 5.0 because this place is the REAL DEAL. Its what movie palaces used to look like in the 1920s and 1930s, when people were more easily dazzled, I guess, and its one of the few left standing anywhere in the country. And it still dazzles. The theatre is in remarkably good condition (apart from a rip on the ceiling wallpaper that has been there for oh, about 20 years) and it is a much beloved institution in Milwaukee. The movies are always first-rate, the sound system is fine, the seats are comfortable, the popcorn is fresh and fabulous and the drinks are great. To be in the Oriental when the big Wurlitzer organ comes up out of the floor and plays "Theres No Business like Show Business" is to bring tears to the most jaded eye. The Oriental holds a very special place in many peoples hearts, mine included. A fantastic gem. If this theatre ever closes, I am lost.

I have been going to the Oriental Theater for years and absolutely adore this theater. From the architecture, to the movies they show, to the amazing popcorn, the Oriental never fails to live up to expectations. It is very hard to find another theater like this one around because it is just so beautiful, which makes the whole viewing experience that much better. As for the popcorn what makes it delicious is the brewers yeast that you can put on top, it is a fabulous addition and makes the popcorn a step above other theaters. Another great thing about the Oriental Theater is that it shows both blockbuster movies as well as independent films. This theater is truly a Milwaukee treasure.

I absolutely love this place with a passion! The decor is the biggest reason but the atmosphere is just great and they also play a lot of great independent films that arent shown in a lot of theaters. I remember my first experience here when I met up with a friend to go see Knight Of Cups (it was the only theater that played it in Wisconsin) and I just fell in love with the old beautiful look to this theater! I had a great time with my friend here and we had a great experience. I very much will come again soon!

Great venue if you are looking for a retro style theatre experience. A host/hostess will enter the theatre right before the reel starts to give some info about the feature presentation, plus announce future events. Very charming and welcoming. 4 stars because it is a retro theatre with big and spacious 1920s style auditorium which does not accommodate those looking for modern accommodations such as digital surround sound, stadium seating etc.

What an incredible theater. My husband and I were lucky enough to see "Only Lovers Left Alive" here. Its an old theater in perfect condition, with tons of artsy details and beautiful features. It was a perfect, romantic place to see a movie that coincidentally is focused on how humans treat the beautiful, special things in life. Bonus: They serve beer and margaritas -- they might even have a full bar, come to think of it.

Fantastic cinema location showing the latest and greatest independtent films. The place has history with three grand viewing rooms decorated with statues of dieties and animals from when it showed plays. Snacks and beverages including alcohol are easy purchased at a rate slightly less comparable to normal theather. Student and senior avaliable. Highly recommended for a unique and fantastic night out.

Love watching films from independent film makers and world renoun as well. Never know what gems you will find. Down side. The side theaters off the main on are small and the seats even smaller. They upgraded the main theater seating bot the small ones. If you are big hipped or large see a film in the middle theater only to be comfortable.

Beautiful theater with lots and seats and plenty to look at besides the movie. Our first time was to see Grand Budapest Hotel and we have always been on the the look-out to come back ever since. Friendly staff, nice facilities, really looking forward to coming in for a film festival event or something similar.

What an awesome gem in downtown! Incredible interior. Its almost like a museum in addition to playing movies. The tickets are a bit more pricey, but the experience is worth it in my opinion. Three theaters total, one has a balcony with a layout similar to a traditional theater. Staff members are kind.

Great place to watch a movie! They always dont have the big commercial ones, but the ones they play here are always good. Its also a great place to visit if you are a fan of films or documentaries. Dont forget that you can get student discounts on Friday if you are a student.

Amazing! Even if you dont see a show! The theater is an experience in itself. Popcorn and food prices are not unworldly, like you would find in most movie theaters. Great sound and picture for being such of an old theater. Only $10 for a brand new film. Stop here!

The Oriental, a classic movie Palace. Just celebrating its 90th anniversary by showing the 75th anniversary showing of Casablanca. A true film gem. Still has the longest running midnight movie of all time... The Rocky Horror Picture Show since January 1978.

It may not have the setup of the new multi-plexes, but the Oriental is a well-loved Milwaukee landmark. I go here once a month for the Milwaukee Film Member screenings. It is great to see this theater packed and full of life, especially during the Festival.

I absolutely love the atmosphere of this place. Theres always a cool selection of indie films that changes pretty regularly. Staff is really nice. I love the vintage, theatrical feel. Lighting is A+. Food and drink is pretty expensive, but not unexpected.

One of my favorite places in Milwaukee. The decor is amazing & if you see a movie in the main theatre you get an organ performance as well. They still greet you with a welcome from staff announcing upcoming movies and events. Bar drinks available!

An amazing theater to see a movie in in Milwaukee. Despite not really being Oriental in style, more an amalgam of Asian cultures, it is beautiful. Definitely go see a movie in the main theater if you are into cool old theaters.
