Last Friday (15 Aug) a friend invited me to a "barbeque" run at McCalls, where you sampled their wine and a vendor set up a hamburger stand (out of a truck) to serve grass fed burgers. He had attended this offering a previous Friday and was greatly impressed by it. My experience was otherwise. Should have figured something was amiss when the McCall people did not honor our reservation (for a table). Fortunately, my friend had brought a folding table, so all was not lost. The burger van couldnt keep up with the orders and we waited over an hour to get our order in and wait for the food. Evidently, their deep fryer couldnt be used so they couldnt prepare the French Fries that were on the menu. We didnt get to eat until twilight. McCalls didnt provide lighting in the picnic area. I had to walk to my car in the dark. When the food that they could prepare got out, the hamburger might have been tasty, but one couldnt tell because it came in a huge bun that dominated the taste experience. Did I mention that it was a rather small piece of meat? It was not a $10. burger, but that was the price. Also, unless you want a dining experience which allows for minimally supervised children running around throwing footballs, you can do better. Try "Snack Bar" further west. The McCalls wines that we had (a red, a white and a Rose) were good, if pricy. I can only give the overall experience 2-stars. 4-stars for the wine, 3 stars for the price. 1 star for the hamburger experience and 1 star for the ambiance.

This was the second winery we visited during the Vintage Tours. It is a lovely, quaint winery, and they have been growing and sellig mainly Pinot Noir and Merlot since the mid 90s. When we arrived, the owner, Russ, came out to greet us and tell us a bit about his wines, winery, and ranch. Yes, they have a ranch here as well! He told us we could walk over to see the cows if we wanted to. Their winery have a very cute and unique look: cute barn and large yard with picnic tables, therefore comes with plenty of outdoor seating. But, if you prefer to sit inside, or if it happens to be a rainy day, there are plenty of seats inside this barn. We got to taste Sauvignon Blanc, Marjorie’s Rosé, and Cabernet Franc Reserve. They were clean, crisp, and refreshing. Next to their vineyards were very white cows. They raise these cows completely organic, grass fed, and natural. (And I believe you can buy the meat addition to their wines) Overall, this one very interesting and fun tour of vineyards. Jo Ann of Vintage Tours made sure we will have a relaxing time here, and we did certainly enjoyed our time here. Read my full review of this winery and wines on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Last Saturday we had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of wine at McCall Winery. We had been to one other winery prior to going to McCall. We absolutely loved the feel and atmosphere of the winery. It was so nice to meet and talk with the owner who was so welcoming and answered all of our questions. Four of us shared a bottle of wine in the stall where horses used to call their home. My husband and I live out east and brought guests with us from Philadelphia. They talked about the experience at McCall several times during the visit. The most impressive part for me was that as the North Fork becomes more and more commercial as I sipped my glass of wine I felt like I went back in time to the quiet "Long Island North Fork" I remember....Thank you McCall for keeping it small and "down to earth". All this and a damn good bottle of wine to boot!

This is a great place to bring friends as the McCall family is usually personally on hand to explain how they make their wines, which years had better grapes that others, and more. The casual and rustic setting in a renovated potato barn is charming. While this is one of the smaller wineries on the North Fork, they have won more than their share of Awards including New York State Winery of the Year. I have been back several times, and this is the first winery I bring my friends to when they visit the North Fork and want winery tours.

McCall Wines is a great stop on your vineyard tour of the North Fork. Built in an old potato barn, with horse stalls for polo ponies on one side, this tasting room has a unique and down to earth style. The McCall wines have won multiple awards and the vineyard was awarded New York Winery of the Year. Our favorites are the Pinot Noirs and Merlots on the red side, and Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay on the white side.

McCall winery was our first stop on our Long Island North Fork wine tour. Russ McCall personally greeted us and told us about his wine. He was also really knowledgeable about wines in general giving us a brief education. His wine Bens Blend was the best wine we tasted all day. Dont miss this winery when out East.

Amazing! One of my few favorites on the north fork. Friday night picnic with the food truck is so fun. Their wines are great, with my favorites being the Rose, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. I love the small rustic feel unlike other factory wineries this is quaint but good

The tasting room is in a rustic barn. I loved the unstuffy setting to do a tasting. Love the decor, as the owners (were/are) polo horse owners. Loved their 2012 Hillside Pinot Noir, medium bodied with nice fruity favors. Highly recommend a visit!

Small and quaint. Cool stable looking dine-in area. Informal picnic tables outside to sip and enjoy the day. No outside food allowed-boo. Staff knowledgeable.

Looks like the inside of a barn. Can get crowded but the grounds are fairly big. The bar is small. Wine is fairly good. Staff is friendly.
