Cant honestly understand the good reviews...from the outside, this theater looks amazing. The vintage illuminated "Fox Bay Cinema" sign is really neat to see, and immediately imparts one with a feeling of excitement, like you are walking back into an era where movies were actually considered "Cinema" and had an aura of elegance. Sadly, this feeling is quickly squashed once one walks into the theater. The first thing we noticed was the smell - a musty, dank, mildewy stench highlighted by the grease of an old fat fryer. The bar/dining area were an absolute mess - litter and popcorn strewn over the counter and all over the floor. We thought it was pretty nifty that there were "grown up" beverages served, and walked into the theater expecting to find a setting similar to the Rosebud Theater (Wauwatosa), that retains charm with its red velvet couches. Instead, it was strangely outdated...one felt like they had been sucked back in time, but not in a good way - more like an old 70s roller rink kind of way. The awkward seating (complete with sticky naugahyde chairs) was made worse by an odd tropical decor. The sound system is atrocious - thankfully the movie we saw was short on dialog and heavy on sound effects, because the diaglog was garbled and echo-y sounding. Another disadvantage was the fact that the lights are kept on (low), to allow for the waiters to bring drinks and pub grub. Its hard to get into a movie when the waiters are walking around and bring the checks midway through the show. We did not order food, but the woman next to us made a comment of "greasy belly bomb", so we were thankful we ate ahead of time. Its sad, because there is so much potential for this theater, and in a GREAT location - they could really do amazing things with that space...but the lack of updates, cleanliness and care really add up to a overall odd impression. We will not be returning.

The four times I have been here have varied so much that I could NEVER recommend this place to a friend or family member. The first time, was acceptable, but the movie theater seemed really dirty, and the lobby dingy for the area. But, this first time the service was acceptable. The next three times were terrible. The servers interrupted us during the movies each of the times so much that we missed most of each of the endings. Also when you buy the tickets what they dont tell you is if you DON"T buy food during the movie you still have to pay a fee if its after 7 pm. So when me and friends went and didnt look at the menu the second time we didnt see the small print that said that. They wouldnt help us out, and they wouldnt even stop to talk to us long enough to tell them how they should let people know when they buy tickets. The very last time the waiter was really rude to us, which was the last straw. Overall skip this place at all cost.

All my life, I have grown up in this theatre. It has a sense of community to the people who live nearby. To be completely honest, the decor can use an update, and they can really do better with the seating and overall cleanliness. But I really dont think that the negative reviews are all that useful. The staff are kind are hardworking and do an excellent job of getting the food out quickly. I really enjoy that we can order before the movie and a snack bar (which to be honest are not my favorite) and enjoy the movie without getting up. Fox Bay has been one of my top favorite places to see a movie with my friends, the tickets are inexpensive and the audio/visual is spectacular for an old theatre (last renovated in 2000)

There is no better place for date night in the North Shore than at the Fox Bay Cinema Grill. The environment is a throwback without being uncomfortable, the films are mainstream and appeal to the clientele well, and the food is adequate for a movie theater. The bar is unique and has a relaxed feel that you can only get at piano bars in the city. The sound and picture is great for a Mom-and-Pop, but could never rival the big chains (Marcus and AMC). Also great for the kids as there is always something to appeal to them on the marque. As a huge film fan, I would love to see them expand their horizons a bit and try some older films even if it was for a matinee. Highly recommended.

We were very disappointed at the food and the service. Yes, the screen was small but it was ok. We used to like this place and the food was pretty good. Not any more. The service is the worse though. We arrived early and were the first ones in so we ordered drinks and appetizers. However, they did not arrive for nearly 35 mins. I watched them serve drinks all around the theater, then they brought one drink to our party of 4. It took another 15 mins for the rest of the drinks, and another 10 for the appetizers. The two pizzas arrived about 10 mins later, and were pathetic frozen pizzas that tasted like the cheap grocery store cardboard type, but cost $15 here.

I am sad the reviews average out from so long ago. The Fox Bay Cinema Grill has taken some time to get itself going and the proof is in the pizza, as it were. The food is excellent, the service great and very quiet. Yes, this is not a chain cinema in that the seats are all brand new and the layout is traditional but the food is great, the service is great, and the sound system and graphics are where they need to be. Its a wonderful *neighborhood* theater, something you dont get a lot of anymore. We can walk to a movie, have lunch or dinner, enjoy it as a family at a table or counter bar rather than sitting in assigned seating, and walk home.

The waitress we had was very loud, even though the movie had started. We had one drink, she never asked if we wanted a refill or checked on us after. She dropped someone elses food on the floor and left it sit through the entire movie, then proceeded to let an old man, who limped around, pick up the fries. As she was cleaning up, she sprayed the cleaner all over the salt and pepper shakers. It was such a disappointing experience, this place would be a fun place to work at and really easy but these kids certainly made it seem like it was the most difficult thing theyve ever had to do.

I honestly would never come here again. The entire place is in great need of renovation and was not even almost worth the $9.50 they charge per ticket. I was surprised to find out that they dont have full sized screens like you would expect at a normal movie theater. The screens here are pretty dang small. The quality of the theater itself reminded me of a back alley dollar movie theater. We ordered nachos which were decent but all of the menu items are grossly overpriced. All in all, I would highly suggest you go to an AMC instead for an enjoyable movie experience.

Great time, the food is not bartolottas which it seems some other reviewers were expecting, mostly pub food, cant go wrong with any of the sandwiches, the pizza can be hit or miss but is generally pretty good. Reviewers also complained about the price of the food, to this I say give me a break the last time I went to Marcus I paid over $12.00 for a small popcorn and soda, you can get a meal for the same price at fox bay. I have never noticed a problem with the sound although could be age related I guess.
