Okay, so everything looked okay at first, I liked the style of the theater. Then WHAM!!!! Horrible experience imminent! First, we go to our "theater" and its a little tiny room with a screen thats just a little larger than my dads flat screen. The chairs are so close together you cannot let someone by without evacuating the whole row. The A/C unit was louder than the movie. The drink I had asked for "no ice" in was nothing but ice with some lemonade on the side. I would have gotten up to fix it, but that might have broken the fire code in this tiny room. Then, when the theater is full, a group of 8 comes in! They didnt even know they sold out their tiny little room! This was also 15 minutes into the movie, so we were distracted for like 10 minutes as this family walks... Well small steps, to try to find a seat. Realizes there are none, stands and the front and has a debate about it. Then they leave and come back just to leave again, and then an employee comes in and looks around! The door opened like 6 times in 10 minutes. Normally, not a big deal, but considering how small this room was, it was ridiculous. It would have been nice to know ahead of time (like before I bought the ticket and wasted money on crappy, bottoms of the machine popcorn) that we would be in this screening room. What kind of place charges 9.75 to cram people in this sardines can? I mean, Im all for utilizing the space, but dont charge full price for it!!!! Nostalgia was not worth it. I figured it had enough good reviews to outweigh the bad, so we went. Awful decision. Pay an extra buck or two and go to a real theater. Only reason we didnt walk out and get out money back was because by the time we finished the bad popcorn, we were already too invested in the movie.... Well, what we could hear over the A/C unit.

I and my wife are still new in town (moved from Baltimore few months ago) but we love The Grandin Theatre. While you can watch the mainstream movies here, you also can watch other genres as well, we watched Kedi (2016) a documentary featuring 7 cats in Istanbul few days ago. The "Classic Film Series" is another amazing opportunity for watching great classics on big screen for free. We watched "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" last weekend. Check the webpage for next month movie. And I learned the theatre started to operate in 1932! Thats more than 8 decades. Staff is friendly and helpful. Popcorn is delicious!

The charm of this old theater is diminished by the children that work here. You get the impression that theyre more interested in the iphones than working. Also, I could have sworn the woman working in the box office playing an ukelele and singing in this creepy high pitch voice was on drugs. A real space case. The ticket prices are great compared to chain theaters and the popcorn is delicious but the sodas taste a little off. I think they gave midnight movies too but Ive never seen any worth watching advertised.

I never walk out, but I walked out of the Grandin! They left the lights on! The picture was washed out because the theatre was not dark enough. I complained and they said they leave the lights on. I asked for a refund and they would not give me one. Do not go to the Grandin, you will pay $8.75 to look at the architecture and the people in the audience because the lights never go off! I ended up paying for a movie I never got to see.

My wife and I love the Grandin Theatre :-) The Grandin area is such an amazing community and the theatre adds so much to it. The staff there are incredible as well. Every time I have been they are extremely kind and genuine. With how kind their staff is they really give the impression that they love being there and contributing to the community.

The sound system in this theater is just atrocious. Every time we go, at various points during the film my husband and/or I lean towards the other and ask "What did he/she say?" I took my granddaughters to see one of the Twilight movies at the Grandin and they said the same thing, "I cant understand what theyre saying!"

Best. Popcorn. Ever. The Grandin Theater is a taste of Roanokes past that has been fantastically preserved. The main auditorium is something to marvel at. Staff is friendly and courteous. This theater is the only place in town to catch indie films. Make sure to buy a giant bag of popcorn to support the establishment!

This movie theater offers hometown friendliness and ambiance. The staff are highly attentive and concerned for patrons. Recently, one staff member allowed me to check seating prior to purchasing a ticket and even stored my pizza leftovers from next door in the fridge during the movie. Its a classic movie venue.

Historic theater. Rooms vary from the large castle themed main theater to a small screening room, so know what you are getting in to. Parking can be confusing, but you can use the lot across the street behind the co-op (theres a VERY faded red line denoting where the non co-op parking starts).

If your like me and love independent films than you will fall head over heels for the Grandin. Beautiful old theatre with great charm. The brick walls in the theatres give it a great and different experience. The staff are great and make you feel welcome. I truly recommend this theatre

Great local theater with character showing unique less mainstream movies. I saw Harry and Snowman - a documentary about an immigrant to US after WWII purchasing a horse headed to slaughter and their transformation to champion show jumping career.

I love being able to walk to a movie after dinner and drinks at one of the local restaurants! Historic non profit theatre that makes you appreciate what a "non-chain" establishment can be like. Staff wonderful and food prices are fair.

Excellent theater that offers the only indie movies in the area. The staff is polite and welcoming and the popcorn the best. Agree the sound system is weak and considering they cater to an older clientele, thats very puzzling.

Always a great treat to step back in time and visit this wonderfully historical place. They often have movies that the larger multiplexes dont show. Dont skip the popcorn - I hear its the best in the valley!

The best selection of films in Roanoke, the best popcorn in the world, and a wonderful location. It is one of the reasons to live in the Greater Raleigh Court neighborhood. And to go to the movies often.

Place is authentic and historic. Well-managed by the staff. Despite its grand age, the Grandin theater is an employer of young men and women. A positive sign of the theaters impact in its community

Fantastic cinema experience. Im personally sick of going to the bigger cinemas that are always loud, filthy & crowded. The Grandin is GREAT! I love that they have midnight movies of older films.

The Grandin is the only movie theatre I attend in the Roanoke Valley. The best selections and the best patrons. Be sure to see OLD FASHIONED starring Elizabeth Roberts from Salem, Virginia!

Plays mostly independent features and anything not playing in the major theaters. Quiet, out of the way, with parking near an adjoining co-op grocer. Seating somewhat limited in the theaters.
