On December 26, 2015, my family and I had purchased 5 tickets to an evening performance. There was an extensive and involved ticketing process with several email and phone interactions. We arrived about 2 hours early for a dinner and happened to walk by the theater approximately an hour and a half before we were scheduled to pick up the tickets per their instructions. We found a PAPER sign stating that the theater was closed and all performances had been re-scheduled for...some reason. We still arent sure. Ok, you say as you continue to click through Richmond CenterStages poorly designed website. I am willing to tolerate the risk that the event that I am spending hundreds of dollars to attend may cancelled for ambiguous reasons at the last minute. Surely, if a large institution in a major US city cancels a major event with no electronic or telephone communications to their patrons, they are willing to refund the price of my tickets? It would be ridiculous to expect them to argue that they will not refund any tickets, and that the holiday season tickets that you have spent hundreds of dollars to acquire are basically useless until the next time that you can gather the five attendees. It is ridiculous, and it is the Richmond CenterStages policy. Buyer beware, and please remember to try to patronize arts institutions who take their customers and patrons seriously.

On August 8, I purchased tickets online hat were labeled VIP and the tickets I printed were also labeled and designated VIP. The tickets are to an event to be held at Carpenter Theater in February 2017. Today on August 11 I received an email and more than 1 phone call stating that the tickets and offering were not VIP tickets but for a significant amount of more money, I could have VIP tickets. In fact, the email requested me to discard my tickets and reprint them so they would not read VIP. At first this seemed like a scam, and in fact I am not convinced otherwise. This sounds just like a "bait and switch" scheme that you would expect with a different type of business. Tomorrow, I will refer this to the Richmond BBB to see how they suggest resolving this. Does anyone have better ideas? 10/22/2016 POST - Upon filing a complaint with the Richmond VA BBB, I received a call from a the manager of the Carpenter Center. She apologized for the miss-hap with the tickets, promised to issue the correct tickets as we made the purchase for and we eventually received the correct tickets in September. I commend the take-charge attitude of Ms. Vogt and correcting a mistake that happened in her absence. WELL DONE!!

Dont listen to the bad reviews. I come here more than once a month for either the symphony or a show. The staff is very helpful. The theatre itself is absolutely beautiful. Parking is like any downtown parking but, really, five bucks for a spot in a garage is a bargain compared to New York or Philly. I normally park on the street just because its free, I know the city well, and Im young and dont mind walking two or three blocks. The restaurant choice around the theatre is a little poor. The best places though would be the Penny Lane Pub, The Capital Ale House, or the Trevis (which is maybe eight blocks down). Dont be afraid to come here, the shows are always awesome.

Absolutely wonderful! Our family saw Sesame Street Live at the Carpenter Theatre. This was our sons first experience with a live performance of any kind. The show started right on time, the attendants were so helpful and patient, and the theater itself was beautiful! The staff truly made this such a great experience overall. Everyone was so incredibly helpful and kind. Honestly, this was such a good experience that we are looking for more shows that our family will enjoy. We will be back!

We bought 6 tickets to a international comedian, 3 of us ended up with seats with an obstructed view of the stage. Additionally, the acoustics in the theater were terrible. We had a hard time following along several parts of the show. Crowd flow during intermission and after the show was a mess as well. Would not recommend this venue For $70 per seat we wouldve bought a lot of pay per view with better audio-visuals

The Dominion Arts Center, formerly known as the Carpenter Center, has been a Richmond fixture for a long time. Whether youre here for a ballet, musical, orchestra concert, forum, or even dance recital, its a beautiful and comfortable venue for all types of events.

The theater is only of the best in Richmond. It is new and clean, well maintained. They do host good shows. Deals are sometime very good. Seats are a little too close in the front rows. I am 57, and I find it uncomfortable.

This is an excellent place to see a performance. It is small and intimate, but beautifully decorated with attention to detail. The seats are very comfortable, and I dont think there is a bad seat in all of the theatre.

Ushers very unprofessional. I had a fall there and none of the staff asked if I was okay. The audience members helped me up. I wrote an email, and I still have not heard a response.

The Carpenter Theater is the perfect place in Richmond to watch a show or simply the symphony. I come here every December to watch Handels Messiah.

Very well managed. Seats are wood and batting, small and uncomfortable, however the view from anywhere in the theater is excellent.
