A nice pub in the heat of Fairfax. Kind of one of the "nicer" options for bars in Fairfax. They have TVs to watch the game on, but still not a "sports" bar. Pretty good place for an outing with friends, adult dinner party, or a quiet conversation between 2 during off-hours. Pros: Just a great Irish Pub. Nice decor/ atmosphere, clean, usually good service. Authentic Irish food. Does not get too crowded or loud until later (after 9pm on weekends). Cool downstairs bar/club type area that hosts special events or used for dancing some nights. Live music, usually acoustic sets that arent deafening like normal "bands", rarely a cover unless a big event. Decent beers on draft (typically Irish selections), thought they could use some more variety. They actually pour your Guinness correctly!! Cons: virtually no happy hours. I wouldnt call it expensive, but definitely not a bargain (think like $5-6/ drink). Music can get loud at night and somehow get stuck on like the heavy metal channel of the jukebox. Service gets shoddy when busy so sometimes easier to order at the bar (this is the case with most places). I would give it a "best of fairfax" award of some sort. Its not really fair to compare Fairfax bars with like Adams-Morgan or Georgetown considering us Fairfax-ians have to drive like 25 miles or spend an hour on the metro to get into the DC hot spots.

The Reuben sandwich is the best Ive ever had & Ive traveled all over. Their salad is always fresh & their ranch dressing is killer. Ive been going here for 6 years now, and have never had a bad experience with the food. The staff can seem otherwise occupied, but only when theyre super busy, which is is to be expected in a bar. Other than that, when Ive gone for lunch, they are always very attentive. This pub is a few blocks from a college, so late Friday and Saturday nights, you will find the to be an influx of noisy college students, but I think the owner tried to resolve this by opening the basement up for rave/mosh pit areas-while the upstairs remains fairly level. I think they do a good job of mediating the types of crowds-older & younger.

I played a show here not to long ago, I am under 21 and it was an all ages show. I did not attempt to order any alcohol just some food and water. Despite this I was still accosted by not one, not two but three separate staff members asking for my id. Even after all of this they still gave me a hard time when i asked for a wristband to get in and out of the space when its part of my job to be able to do so for gear removal and such. As both a musician and a paying customer the service was unacceptable and very unprofessional. I understand things are more tense during all ages shows but I refuse to be treated like a criminal when I didnt do anything wrong.

We started off at the Green Turtle across the street and left after they could not tell us their wine pricing. We walked in Auld Shebeen and we were quickly greeted and offered bar, quiet room or live music area. We opted for the live music area. Enjoyed a very nice Irish Band. Service was quick, wine list was broad including a nice house wine. Enjoyed a Chicken Club with House Fries. Overall a very nice evening. At one point I thought I recognized a friend at the bar and was standing up trying to confirm it was an old friend. The Manager/Owner thought I had a concern and approached ouu table to make sure we didnt need something. Great work.

We went in on a Saturday night. After waiting for service for over half an hour, had to go up to the bar to order food and drinks. Not sure what the problem was, the servers kept stopping by other tables. They just simply ignored us. Not one word the entire night. The food was mediocre. I had their chicken club sandwich and part of the chicken was burnt. Better than raw I suppose. Has the potential to be a great place but I got the feeling the management and most of the staff just dont care about the customers.

I am not sure what the cover charge is about, for the crappy bands that play there or the terrible dj who comes in(not sure if the same one still comes there) that changes songs every 25 seconds. Just when you are enjoying one song he changes to another one.... also it takes like 20 minutes to get a drink even at the bar in person. too crowded, overpriced hole in the wall Id rather drive all the way to dc to go the nicer places in adams morgan or something than this crap.

We have been coming to the Auld Shebeen for years now and absolutely love the place. We spend half of our year in Ireland, so when we come back to the USA, we like to go to an Irish place that is authentic and similar to what we have come accustomed to in Ireland. We also have our events in the Auld shebeen and the management and staff cant seem to do enough for us. The food is excellent, and again authentic. We look forward to many happy returns to the Auld Shebeen!

A truly authentic Irish Pub! The food is excellent and the staff is really wonderful! The owners, Mick Boyle and Dominic Keane, are excellent hosts. They both are very attentive to each and every guest in the restaurant. They are hard working too, waiting on tables and assisting wait staff, in addition to hosting. Also, the Auld Shebeen get some great Irish musical acts, that make the experience all the more pleasurable!

My fish and chips fish portion was undercooked to the point that it was actually raw in the middle. Pointing it out to the waitress and the manager was met with a mild apology and a shrug and no offer to remove the item from my bill. Otherwise it was a decent Irish themed pub. There are however too many other good places in the immediate vicinity to justify returning when this is how they deal with kitchen mistakes.

My wife, son and I go every Friday for live music and great fish specials. If you like a kid friendly place where they serve a find pint of Guinness along with good, fresh fish (as well as classic Irish pub food) at a reasonable price then look no further. The staff is always friendly as are the owners. Be sure to say hi to Mick and Dom if you stop in for a pint. You will not be disappointed.

Food here is pretty delicious. Has become more chill compared to when it used to be a big hangout years back when smoking was allowed in the basement. Once smoking was removed and they renovated, a lot of the clientele left surprisingly. Drinks are average priced and live music is nice. Not party central but a nice spot to grab a drink. Lots of beers on tap and liquor options.

So here on a Wednesday night the EDM music downstairs is just a dull vibe while upstairs eating. You can still easily hear yhe kusic and other conversations around you. The staff were prompt in seating me. Patrick was quick with my drink and order of sausage rolls which were hot and delicious. The Cahill Irish burger and brown and soda breads were excellent.
