Met my cousin for happy hour dinner here last night because its a good in between spot, have heard good things, and she had been for brunch. Alright so first, the spot. I think it was smart of the Black Restaurant Group to open up in Takoma Park. This place is definitely going to be the "staple" of the block. The ambiance was cool and we ate on the patio (hh only on the patio and at the bar). The waitress was super friendly/chatty and had great beer suggestions. Plus one. The food: AWESOME. We split a burger, fried oysters and their mussels. The burger was good (not nearly the best ive had) but pretty good with great fries. The oysters were crispy fried to perfection and served with a really good remoulade sauce. When the oysters were done, we kept the sauce for the fries and the fried shrimp her young son couldnt finish. The mussels: in my opinion the best thing on the table. So apparently the recipe is from their now closed Addies. It came with a tasty (very salty) tomato, lemon, garlic broth that neither of us could stop eating. The youngn at the table, Alex, kept calling it "soup" and yes, we both couldve eaten it like soup if there was more, although talk about a salt overdose. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because Ive yet to try their entrees and in my opinion, they are a little pricey. The happy hour prices, however, are on point and Id probably only go back between 5 and 7 M-F. Moral of the story, if youre up this way and thinking hh dinner and drinks. Go here.

Last year food was great service great everything all and fantastic I was with a group of ten. This year horrible. With a large group about 14. Which they dont take reservations for big groups. Our server was terrible food coming out one at as time.said she was walking it cause two people ordered apps. People who ordered first got food last. You could tell food stayed in window forever our hamburger buns were hard as rocks. I talked to manger about how long it was taking just for drinks to come not to mention the food. Nothing was done by him. Most of my group is in industry so we tried to let go but just couldnt. Manger never once checked on us. Took a drink off check nothing. Not that we needed him to but come on show us you care about our business. Thank God for another server who was fantastic and did everything in his power to try to fix night.

Republic is the new seafood place in Takoma Park, and the area which has a solid habit of supporting local establishments is going a bit crazy over it. It is a needed destination in the Takoma area, a top notch restaurant with solid dishes. The interior though was a little to dark at times, which made it hard to read the menu. When I was there they were still working out some kinks in the restaurant, but the food was good, the oysters were fresh, and the beer selection was solid. I am hoping they expand to a brunch menu soon, as it stands, it is a good place for dinner in the Republic of Takoma Park. Hopefully in a year whatever issues the restaurant has will be worked out, but as it stand it is worth checking out, even if it is to down saw raw oysters with a pint of craft beer.

Delicious & stylish new addition to Chef Blacks growing resto empire! This neighbourhood gem presents familiarity in the way of seafood dishes weve come to love (and miss! e.g., Addies mussels) but assimilating perfectly into its new and quirky/artsy environ that is Takoma Park. Seafood is of the high standard that you would expect from skipper of Blacks Market and 14th St s uber-popular Pearl Dive Oyster Palace. Must try the mixed drink creations like the Fascist Killer (an old fashioned, but Takoma Park-style). Cant wait for the good weather to herald the opening of their patio area with (long list of) local musicians for entertainment!

I was visiting family from Brooklyn, NY and came to Republic in hopes of having a great meal. Unfortunately that was not the case and I left feeling like I would have been more satisfied setting for Chipotle ( Fast-food is not my first or last choice) The food is very overpriced with an underwhelming quality. I give them 2 stars for the decor and outdoor space otherwise Id give them 1star. Perhaps its a great place that best serves the locals only - a visitor from NY couldnt see the value. If youre a visitor, to be safe, just order the drinks. Dont waste your money otherwise.

Just opened two weeks ago, Republic is taking downtown Takoma Park by storm. The food is simply OUTSTANDING. Who could imagine a foodie place tearing up in downtown Takoma Park? The seafood is simply top notch. Try the lunch time fare as well; they have a great menu (the Oyster sandwich is just fantastic), and its easier to get in. If you show up after 6:30 PM for dinner, be prepared to wait. By word of mouth alone, this place is a huge success! Congratulations Chef Danny, you and the Republic staff are significantly changing downtown Takoma Park!

4/5 The food was marvellous, the mood was calm, but the waiters were a bit strange and cold. I am Italian-American and I think maybe that was why they didnt talk with me--my Italian is not perfect. But with Americans they were very friendly and kind. 4/5

This place is amazing. Great food in wonderful drinks! There are a fair amount of choices on the menu from meat eater to vegan. Not alot of "standard" food items because everything has a delicious little twist. The being said their baseline burger is tender and juicy. Drinks are creative and the have a good tap list and a full wine selection. Decor is eclectic but it works. Be prepared to drop some good money, this place is on the pricy side but between the food and service its worth it!

Ive been coming to Republic regularly for months now. Im never disappointed by their high quality menu and MOST especially by their beer selections. Theyre now doing flights of local craft beers and have a fantastic indoor and outdoor space. Got kids? Family friendly. Gay or lesbian? They have a night. This Takoma neighborhood bar is a place you should visit. Pictured, the delicious shrimp sliders (the oyster version is also fantastique.)

Excellent bar: well-trained and friendly staff, a warm, laid-back atmosphere serving generally good food with a few amazing choices. Theyre very proud of their oyster selection - which is impressive - although some of the varieties are better than others. Their shrubs (cocktails with vinegar - seriously) are incredible. Perhaps the only problem with Republic is that theres not enough else to do in Takoma Park to stop you drinking...

This is the kind of place every neighborhood needs. Friendly staff, great menu, kicking happy hour. Republic fills a sorely needed gap in Takoma. A nice rotating tap selection helps. The bar staff can get overwhelmed at times and miss an order. But go easy and jut have another drink. If you live nearby, make this your water in hole. And if the Red Line pushes you past Takoma, its worth a detour.
