Recently went to this Art Museum when we have some family over from DC. Ironically enough, it was a Tuesday night, which are free nights, which is a huge plus for people that dont happen to know this fact. The history is rather impressive and the sculptures are well crafted. The paintings, the feel of the museum as you walk through different aspects of Texan history is well done. They have headphones placed adequately throughout so you can listen in on some parts of the art displayed. Its a good place to visit and it looks like the place was recently renovated. The museum itself is a bit on the small side, but it is worth a visit. Strongly recommend, even from someone like me who isnt much into art history.

Great venue and friendly staff to work with at the Pavilion, if you are planning to host your next event here. The reason 4 stars instead of 5 its due to the following experiences: first their Museum staff contact us before the event. when questions had already been answer to their event managing department. Than the day of the event we had security at the venue try to make changes for us. Like really!? Cmon your job is to secure the event, not tell us where a table or stage should go. Other than that, Im willing to give this place a second chance to host another event for our clients.

Being that it was Monday, the Museum itself was closed. However, the reason that I gave the four stars is due to the fact that being a native San Antonian, Im glad to see this building given its "third life". The history of the building is that for years, it used to be the main San Antonio Public Library. Then when the Library moved, it became the Hertzberg Museum, one of the few museums dedicated to circuses. Now I am glad to see that instead of being torn down or neglected, that someone is using it for a great purpose!

We Yankees were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the Briscoe. I especially liked the introductory video which featured "everyday" Westerners explaining how meaningful the West was in their lives. Later, as we explored the exhibits and the 2- or 3- minute videos scattered among the sculptures, paintings, and artifacts, we saw that many of the people featured in the introduction were artists, collectors, and members of Texan families which had been here for centuries. Excellent!

Worthwhile a visit. Relatively small (2 floors) but stuffed with historical spurs, saddles, artifacts including a Wells Fargo coach, and an interesting assortment of contemporary art. The building must be a curators nightmare. The ceiling, wooden walls, and small rooms encroach on and compete with the exhibit It feels crowded and many areas lack focus and the peace of clear structure. Pick what you like and spend time with it. Dont try to take it all in, it will confuse you.

Very, nice; three floors, room to grow. Located in the old library, with a Riverwalk entrance as well as a street entrance. Nice collection of western art & Texana history (rifles, spurs, clothing, etc.). Surprising collection of Mexican items, like Pancho Villas saddle, a sword gifted to Porfirio Diaz, & a small inlaid guitar for Benito Juarez. The public library has a small room with Wi-Fi & tablets on the 1st floor of the museum, also accessible from the Riverwalk.

Ci sono entrato gratuitamente ma tutto sommato è stato abbastanza interessante. Da uno scorcio sulla vita del vecchio West mostrando ciò che noi europei ci aspettiamo di vedere in Texas

Loved the museum. I found it interesting that in Texas guns can be considered art. I wish it was true of the rest of the nation. Santa Annas sword was awesome to see, along with the rest of the displays. they have buckaroo bags for kids to keep them entertained. It was a fun excursion.

Wow really cool museum. They had their annual art show exhibit going on and the artwork was amazing. If youre into old Western firearms and Western antiques this place is pretty cool in that respect too. Very nice people working there. And the $10 tickets are good for all day come/go.

Worth the $10 admission per person to this well maintained beautiful museum. Plan on spending at least one hour here to browse three floors of photographs, paintings, sculptures, replicas, artifacts, and more. Many include headphones or videos where you can learn more.

Far beyond my expectations. The exhibits are presented in an easy to view manner and the entire staff I was fortunate enough to meet were kind and helpful. I will be making further visits to this fine institution. If I can convince my wife, I will be buying a membership.

This museum was beyond just an art museum. it really had a lot of displays that were more about Western history and culture then art, however the western sculptures were amazing. I enjoyed the small pieces inside as well as the larger pieces outside.

Its free on Tuesday evenings. They have a display of saddles, photographs, Spurs, western guns, a great diarama of the Alamo, bronze statues, and some interesting video clips with various displays. My 10 and 12 year old found it interesting.

With a great location in downtown you can stroll right in from the river-walk. Tuesdays evenings are free. Its 3 levels (not super big) with great information and artifacts. Worth a view if you are in town for a day or two.

This is definitely not worth the price of entrance. The museum has only 5-6 rooms to work with. So the whole museum can be toured in an hour or an hour and a half. Go on Tuesday night because the entrance is free.

Fantastic displays of western art. Very knowledgeable and friendly docents. Great place to visit but NO plans email to park a bus. Guess the city of San Antonio doesnt want tours downtown.
