My family and I visited The Witte Museum on a weekend getaway from Houston to see the Darwin exhibit and the other facilities. We were pleasantly surprised at what a nice Sunday afternoon we had here and the Darwin exhibit was fascinating. The mixed media used in the exhibit was a nice surprise with a vast collection of animal skeletons and some live animals as well. This was really a nice exhibit without being too overwhelming when you are accompanied by a 4 yr. old. The films were nice and the collection of orchids was really beautiful. I do not understand the other reviews of this museum but we did come on the day before school started, so we did not run into too many crowds. The interactive skits with the actors at the museum were fabulous and educational. The museum was well kept and clean and the price of admission is reasonable. We picked up a $2 off coupon at our hotel which included with the Darwin exhibit totaled a pleasant $30 compared to The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences total cost of $15 for just the exhibit halls and $27 for the one ticket to a visiting exhibition. I enjoy the HMNS; however, the Witte Museum was a nice surprise on a lazy Sunday afternoon for my family and I. We arrived at opening and did not even get to see the whole upstairs facility. It is a nice museum and very friendly staff. Maybe the time of day and day you attend the museum should be timed with any school field trips. This place was really nice for my child and my husband and I. We really enjoyed the Treehouse and the Ranching exhibit. It was really nice. The pricing was not that bad versus other museums in the area and compared to Houston, this museum was a nice change of pace. We really enjoyed the entire experience and I am sure your family will as well. We will come back when we are in the area.

Just okay. My wife took the kids here a few years ago and loved it. We went on the Tuesday free day (3pm to 8pm). It was very crowded which, because it was the free time, was expected. We checked out the HEB Body building which was just okay. A lot of things my wife liked two years ago have been removed. The treehouse is just a walkway really. We did the wall climb which was bu far the highlight of the trip. Then we went to the Old Texas exhibit. Kids got a kick out of jumping for the seismometers and the old west artifacts were neat. In short - the trip was free and we got what we paid for. If wed paid for the visit, and bought the extra exhibit tickets, Id have felt ripped off. Hopefully it will return to its former glory when the construction is done. Id also seriously suggest trying to find a way to connect all the various buildings. It seemed like a LOT of potential exhibit space was lost due to the seperated design of the grounds.

The parking was insufficient to meet demand. The special exhibit was the only one worth seeing. Seriously... among the exhibits I saw old beer bottles! The stuffed animals seemed worn and faded. The "artifacts" were like some rubble you would see in a questionable EBay auction...that is the ones that werent replicas which were many. I saw too many kids running around like the monkeys in Jumanji, and even saw one with NO SHOES. The room housing the furniture exhibit had only one functioning interactive display. No kidding... I saw old liscense plates and Dr Pepper cans as parts of the exhibits...really? I can dig that crap out of my own trash. Glad I went on a night when it was free (I paid $6 for me and my son for the special exhibit). I was more impressed by the Alien Museum in Roswell. It had more real artifacts and was housed in a strip mall :/

well thank goodness I took my walker very hot, no notices of that when you pay for the Witte Museum plus the Mayan exhibit, the Witte is closed period. You walk a millon miles it seemed nearly all the way back to Hildrebrand street. in the heat. to a glass building right . I have came for years to exhibits there but wont bother anymore. The hike was very hard on me, and would be for any one with any kind of health problems the exhibit was as far as I was concerned sub par for what I had seen in past they had places to sit if you could squat on a very low unstable stool. I feel like they are fixing the Witte on our pocket books no longer can you park out front under trees you have to go to a parking garage much futhur away I am so disaponited I guess it is right you can never go home again .

Customer service was bad & I could not even go into the store there to buy a stuff animal for my granddaughter. They did not want to let me in. They said I needed a ticket which I did have & I had sort out the place. So I wanted to buy a stuff animal on my way hm. It took a lot of arguments & me asking why I could not enter the store. I will never go to that place again. They are very rude. Bad customer service but i did finally get my granddaughter her stuff animal. I was going to buy a few more but after all the trouble they gave me I just bought one they could have made a lot of money out of me that day but since they had bad customer service Im just not ever going back to that place again. I was just so surprised that a place like that you would think they would want to make as much money as they could.

I took my girlfriend here while we were visiting because I remember coming here as a kid. It was VERY different from the last time I went so it was all very new to me as well. The construction was different too because the entrance is towards the back, I guess a sign would be easier, but maybe I missed one haha. We went closer to when it was closing so we didnt have much time to walk around, but we did go to the HEB center when youre at the entrance. This was one of the things that had changed, but it was SO COOL. For us being adults it really educated us on health and the human body (which is always cool). They had a lot of interacting and fun ways to find out how to get fit and learn about ourselves. Whenever we go back here were DEFINITELY checking out everything.

I went on August 4, 2015 (Tuesday so luckily free admission), and it was the most boring museum ever imaginable. Without purchasing the entrance to the special exhibit all there was to see was a 10 minute Texas History exhibit and a 10 minute walk through the HEB tree house. Both were not very interactive for the kids and the HEB tree house asks for personal information (age, gender, height, name, photo) of the children in order to play on most of the activities. I went on several field trips to the Witte growing up and it used to be extremely fun and interactive. This was a very disappointing visit. Hopefully once the construction is over this museum will be more informative and interactive.
