I took my three year old son to McNay for the first time for free family day. I definitely think its best to try out a museum on a "free" day just in case. Fortunately, we really enjoyed ourselves! Parking was a little tricky at first since there are a few different parking areas-no big deal. My son was very excited about several of the exhibits and participated in arts and crafts in the learning center. During the performance by the San Antonio ballet, one female staff member kept giving dirty looks toward any baby/child who made noises, even though the auditorium was very crowded and slightly noisy to begin with. It was family day, and honestly, children were very well behaved considering the environment. Other staff members were very kind and helpful. The exhibitions are guarded, and they should be, but that shouldnt intimidate anyone. The museum shop looked very big and tempting, but we didnt go inside. The museum grounds were fairly well kept, but we did come across some trash, maybe wrappers left behind by a school group. All in all, Id be happy to go back to the McNay Art Museum and pay admission.

What a beautiful place! My girlfriend and I were in town for a wedding, which happened to have its cocktail hour and reception in the McNay Art Museum, and it was without a doubt the highlight of San Antonio for me (no disrespect to the wedding ceremony of course). The grounds are wonderfully kept, and the sculptures make for a wonderful walk at twilight. Then, the courtyard of the old mansion was the perfect setting for a cocktail hour, making us feel transported to another time. The auditorium was standard, but had some interesting accent lighting which made for an intimate feel when the obligatory heart felt speeches were attempted through many tears. Sadly I did not get a chance to tour any of the exhibits, but I know that if I return to San Antonio I will make it a stop for sure. I would recommend this to any one in the San Antonio area looking for a good place for a party or wedding reception, as it will delight and impress your guests for sure.

nice place to take pictures but certainly not worth the $20 charge (that is very little advertised) I literally had to search for the charge on the website after being rudely approached from the security officer there. After paying the $20, the security officer was just stalking our every move and made it feel very uncomfortable. To make things worst there was a water fountain we were taking photos with that was supposed to operate until 7 and he turned it off 25 minutes early in the middle of us taking photos. I am not going back to this place and wouldnt recommend it to anyone else unless you want to overpay and be stalked during your experience. There are plenty of other free areas that are much nicer to take photos in San Antonio, go have a good experience elsewhere.

I love the outdoor sculptures, fountains, and ponds. It is so beautiful. They also have great family days that are super fun for the kids. The first gallery to the left of the entrance always has this weird smell. It is funky and old and I cant put my finger on it. Thats the only downfall to this gorgeous place. The staff are helpful and the interior plaza is just amazing. It has the original Spanish tiles, koi fish, and lovely plants. Accessibility is pretty good - you just have to plan ahead and know where the elevators are so you can easily go to the 2nd level. You have to do a little bit of a double back to be sure to see everything. It is worth the visit - though maybe not worth the full $20. Id prefer to pay $12 or $15 for what you get.

5 Reasons to visit the McNay 1. The grounds are beautiful. The pond, fountain, landscaping, and sculptures are worth the trip by themselves. 2. The architecture is stunning. The museum use to be a private residence and its Spanish style is beautiful and has lots of interesting little details. 3. The atmosphere is laid back. Dont know anything about art? No worries, everyone here is friendly and helpful. Casual attire rules. 4. Kids are welcome. Need something to do with the kids? Head to the McNay! Check out their website for a list of kid friendly activities. 5. Thursday nights are free! The McNay is open until 9:00 on Thursdays and admission is free starting at 4:00. And 2nd Thursday in the summer usually means food trucks and bands.

First off I wanna say that I love the art here and its really a super great place for exhibits. Ive also seen a few lectures here which have been very good as well. Only reason for the 2 stars is the security staff is really.. uh.. uppity? I came for a special exhibit a few weeks ago and got asked THREE TIMES if I had paid to get in. Sticker was clearly shown. I just think even if you have a few stragglers who wander in and have not paid, its worth it not to ruin the experience for everyone else by asking every single person if theyve paid or not..

Did not have a good experience at this museum at all. I love the other museums here in San Antonio but this one takes the cake for being the worst. Despite being in a beautiful location. It is not worth the $15 dollars. Which I dont mind paying but not worth it. I felt stalked by the staff. Walking behind me everywhere I went. The rude stares from the staff, not friendly at all. felt uncomfortable. Not a good experience over all. Mrs. Mcnay would not approve. Haha. Just saying. Would not recommend. What a shame.

My family and I went to take my sons easter pictures on the property and were rudely confronted by security while still getting out of our vehicle to pay if we are taking pictures. This guy waited for us to finish unpacking our props from the trunk, all while MANY other people passed him by and he didnt tell them anything about paying when he clearly sees them all carrying cameras. He racially picked us out because we are of color, and not the white people. The McNay is racist!! Do not spend your money here

Went during their Free HEB Thursday night with my girlfriend and it was great! There was food and music outside with a family friendly atmosphere but also nice and quiet to spend time with your significant other or to just check out some art on your own. Although we didnt have time to visit the sculpture garden, there was a good amount of paintings (including some from Picasso and van Gogh) and sculptures inside. Parking does fill up quickly so get there a bit early. Definitely plan on going back!

Best fine art museum in San Antonio. Beautiful converted mansion that now houses a fabulous modern art collection with many prominent artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Rodin, Hartley, and OKeeffe. The collections also contains western American art, theatre arts, and contemporary Latino prints. Their new expansion wing allows for quite a bit of additional space for traveling exhibitions. Very impressed. Probably took 3 hours just to look at everything. Very helpful staff.
