One star for cool bands, but it still feels a bit too generous for the following two reasons: 1. Singers and their family/friends-- Just as many people already warned about "reserved seats"... i also found it very insulting that all the good seats were "reserved" for friends and families of performers. Well, this is such a small place. So, "good seats" were more like 80% of the all tables they had. I think people/fans who care enough to buy tickets in advance or who stand in line for like an hour deserve to be treated better. I thought i read enough reviews and was prepared not to be offended, but it was actually very very annoying. Arent friends or families supposed to be the supportive crew? Give the performers a chance to show their respect for the fans. 2. Management of the pub-- If you are lucky enough to get a seat before your singer starts the show, here is what you need to do to keep the seat: Sometimes they sell tickets in advance and ask people without a ticket to leave and get in line to get back into the pub. DO NOT GET UP AND LEAVE. I saw a bunch of people just handing dollar bills and get the same wrist band on the spot. I felt so sorry for all those other people who honestly gave up their seats, for which they probably had to get to the bar a few hours early to grab among the 20% of seats singers havent reserved. If you are going to treat those who are paying $10-$20 just to get in like dirts, at least manage tickets better.

The layout makes for a dreadful time trying to listen bands. Excuse me! Excuse me! Watch it! All fricking night. If you dont get a seat which some bands have reserved you are forced to stand in a small area either blocking the bar, the ladies restroom or the reserved seating. The waitress and everyone else has to squeeze through everyone! This place has a terrible layout for enjoyment of a band. The bands that play here are great but I only go if it is someone I really really want to see. I then get there at least 1 hour early to try and get a seat. Argh. Why dont they move that freaking bar?????? Open this place up, plenty of room to do so. Am I the only one that sees this?

Saxons ok, but DONT GO on Mondays - Schneider night! Terribly insulting to fans. Nope, not with his Scabs lyrics. My posse has planned, coordinated and gathered at the Saxon 3 times in order to see Schneider. Each time, got there at 5:45 - 6:00pm so we could get good seats. No luck. No seats. Seriously - every chair in the place was saved for his guest list. Three separate occasions. Those willing can pay the $10 to stand for hours while a bunch of tables remain open through the night. Feels like he ought to put on a private party for his private parties. Feels disrespectful. Me? I dont care to support him anymore.

The first time I came to the Saxon, it was so crowded we ended up at a table in the back room next to the bathrooms. My most recent visit was far less packed and we were able to sit at the bar and enjoy the band. The bartender made me possibly the largest margarita Ive ever had and the price was definitely right. Loved that there was enough room to do some dancing - theres nothing worse than great, foot stomping music and having no space to get up and move,

Small, intimate venue that at first feels more like a bar, but the music is definitely the centerpiece. Cheap drinks and consistently strong acts, plus a nice outdoor patio with CCTV feed of the stage to get out of the noise or take a smoke break. Gets a slight ding for practical issues like bathrooms, but thats kind of the expectation at places like this. Theres occasionally a cover charge so come prepared.

This review is for the airport location only ive never been to the one in austin. The food is way below average, ordered tbe hamburguer and the meat was frozen and overcooked, not even par with a crappy mcdonalds; Service was average but the bar tender rushed is out Of the placr because she wanted to go home. you will get better food at any other place and better Service, dont waste ur money here.

Its always great to see all of the best musicians in town play at the Saxon. Im there right now. Ive been coming here for years and have never had a bad time here. Also, I have never seen any altercations of any sort here. People come here to listen, not to talk. IMHO its the best place to go for great music. Free happy hour Tuesday through Friday. Its all good. ALWAYS good!

This is the place to go to see great live music any night of the week! The happy hour shows are free and lots of fun followed by 3 acts (usually one around 9, one around 10 and one around 12 or 12:30) that each charge a cover but it is always worth it. A great place to go if you are looking for new music! It is usually a good room for listening. The staff is awesome too!

One of the few places left in Austin that hasnt really changed at all. Really polite and attentive servers and live music throughout the week that is definitely worth the cover charge (despite it going up in recent years) besides the music the decent selection of local beers and a great liquor selection solidifies the need to check this place out if you havent been.

This place doesnt have the type of music Im into. In fact, the suit of armor outside of the bar is the most fascinating part of my journeys here. But I still thinks its a a great, intimate venue for the singer-songwriter set. Love Bob Schneider? This place is for you. Not so into him? You can play pool in the back. Ill be back there, too.

Great Music. Horrible layout in the room. The place has such great potential. there is room for wonderful dance floor. But, instead, there are a bunch of ridiculously placed tables preventing anybody from standing or dancing in front of the band. if they would move those tables out and rearrange the place, it could be a great club !

This place is cool. Small joint, great to see bands and they are hosting some of my favorite Red Dirt artists here so it is great to be so close. The parking sucks, but that is kind of out of their control at this point. Drinks are moderately priced, the bartenders do a great job getting drinks out even when it is packed.

Saw Guy Forsyth there a few weeks ago and was blown away by the performance and the venue. So dark and dingy that you could have been under the deck of an old ship. Plus, the adorable waitresses and alternately dark-and-mysterious and sweetly-suburban clientele made me think this might be the Merlottes of South Austin.

Outrageous pricing for breakfast menu (sans music). Order of toast -one slice white bread $1.99 ; 1/2 cup yogurt with three blue berries, 4 slices of strawberry and 3/4 cup granola masquerading as a yogurt BOWL $ 7.99 = highway robbery. Visit the nearby food court instead.
