Unhappy New Year My friends and I purchased the Platinum Package ($2500, not including tip) here for New Years Eve. What a disappointment. I dont think Ive ever experienced a lack of service and professionalism like what my group and I were put through yesterday. To quote their website: "20 VIP tickets included Reserved VIP section. Express Entrance for VIP ticket holders. Hors doeuvres & Desserts in Addition VIP area (9pm-12am) 5 bottles of Alcohol of your choice. 3 bottle of Champagne. Party favors on table." We waited outside for 30 minutes while the bouncers let in GA. It was so unorganized, as if they had no idea we were coming. Not until it began to rain did they allow us to push our way through. Once inside, we waited for an additional 15 minutes until they took us upstairs. Our group of 20 was brought to a super bright room with 3 small square tables. Two of the tables were occupied with people all sitting. We were placed in the middle of the room at 1 unmarked table with 3 chairs. 3 chairs... We actually had to request more seating. There was no food in sight, no one directed us to any hor doeuvres, nothing. The table had 6 paper "Happy New Years" crowns and that was it for party favors. Our first 2 bottles were brought to us with 10 plastic cups, 1 small carafe of OJ, and 1 small carafe of Sprite. We had to find a server to get our other bottles which came with a pitcher of some cranberry stuff, a tall glass of OJ, and a beer glass full of sprite. No joke. We noticed that we were the highest paying table that night while our surrounding tables who paid over $1,000 less had plenty of seating and favors. Walking downstairs, we noticed an amazing reserved corner in the room next to the DJ and dance floor. That should have been our table, no question. Ours wasnt even roped off so everyone in the building was walking through our area. Did I mention there was no countdown to the New Year? We did it ourselves.

The Belmont is such a strange venue. Its like it wants to be posh and hip, but the bands that they tend to bring in just dont quite cover that. Still, I have seen a few good shows here. The layout gives you a lower pit, an upper patio, and a deck serving as a balcony over all of it. The stage is raised above the pit, so sight lines down inside are good. Id have to guess that sight can get a bit obstructed if youre too far back from the stairs into the pit (as the upper patio is about the same height as the stage), but Ive never been more than 1-2 people back from the stairway when watching a show. Everything here is remodeled and new. The interior is nice and modern with large doors they can open for shows. The sound system is top notch and ranks up there as far as the quality of the sound. The bathroom fixtures are probably the nicest for any venue in Austin, but unfortunately, the bathrooms are fairly small and the place is understaffed, so they get gross fast. All-in-all, if you see a band on the schedule that you want to see, dont let that its at the Belmont prevent you from going. It might not be the most authentic place to watch music, but its good enough.

When we arrived, there was confusion over sitting on the patio. The host sat us in an area that was "reserved" but there was only one full table and 6 empty tables. A waitress came by and told us we couldnt sit there. We went back to the host, who again sat us at the same table. We waited 10 minutes before we received any service. Once we ordered, we waited 45 minutes for pasta and a sandwich. When the food arrived, it was apparent that it had been sitting under a warmer for quite some time. The food was decent but not memorable for the price. The whole time we were waiting for food, the wait staff was distributing chips and salsa and chicken skewers to the rest of the tables on the patio. Apparently they started a benefit for the Lance Armstrong Foundation after we had arrived and we werent told. We again waited 15 minutes for the check, which was wrong and we had to wait for it to be corrected. We felt neglected and overcharged, especially when they were giving away free food to other tables when we had to wait for our food.

I paid $55.50 for a ticket to a New Years Eve party here. They did nothing that was above and beyond any other New Years party. They advertised: HORS DOEUVRES, CHAMPAGNE TOAST AT MIDNIGHT, PARTY FAVORS, 5,000 BALLOON DROP AT MIDNIGHT, HUNDREDS OF GIVEAWAYS FROM OUR SPONSORS AND PARTNERS. None of which actually happened. They also had some of the worst wait staff Ive ever seen. I only managed to get two drinks the entire night and waited at the bar for over an hour just to close my tab. In fact I was waiting at the bar when the clock struck midnight (Which we didnt know because there wasnt even so much as a countdown going on). I had gotten in line before 11pm and did not expect to still be standing there waiting to a bartender to acknowledge my existence after midnight. So I spent my New Years waiting in line at a overly crowded bar and I paid $55.50 for the privilege. If you see any events at the Belmont I wouldnt waste my money or time.

A group of friends and I made a weekend trip to Austin and had the displeasure of attending this restaurant. From the onset we did not have a host seat us at a table, instead we sat at a corresponding booth next to another group that we were meeting at the restaurant. From there the service began a downward spiral. The waiter did bring out our drinks but did not explain the brunch option. Instead he chose to go to the bar and was seen sparingly during our stay. I assume he had other customers to attend to. So one of my friends had to get up and pick up utensils because our "waiter" thought wed eat with our hands. On top of that, when we did get around to ordering the clueless waiter confused our meals, brought them out cold and mentioned he was "busy". A lame excuse. The other party was able to get two of their meals compensated, while we were left to foot the $60 bill. Money well spent, NOT!

Had such violent food poisoning the other night at Belmont and they didnt give the slightest bit of attention or concern when we called and told them about it. I was almost hospitalized because it was a food with mayonnaise (one of the worst types) yet the manager didnt return a single phone call (3 messages were left). I wasnt looking for a free meal or any compensation but wanted them to at least acknowledge the problem. This was on top of their wait staff trying to overcharge us by $40 on our bill the same night. They said they were charging happy hour prices to get us to order but then charged full price. Ownership apparently changed recently so I urge anyone thinking of going there to think again and go somewhere else. No one should be as violently ill as I was immediately after eating their food!

I love the atmosphere at this place both in and out. The inside is a beautiful decor of modern meets Victorian meets 70s rock star and the outside is simply decorated with a decent bar area and an enormous outside stage that has killer sound. I found the employees, with the exception of the snobby girl taking photos for the venue to be excellent and fast given the fact the outside bar is usually packed. The only real issue I have is that if you get your drinks outside they are watered down, served up in a small plastic cup and a bit on the pricey side as 13 bucks got me a really off tasting diet coke and a vodka/coke that was really watered down with more of the weird tasting diet coke. Overall, I would definitely suggest visiting the Belmont for a great live music experience but get your drinks inside.!
