Back in my college days, I used to visit the "dollar movies" frequently. It was not a pleasant place to go, but as a college kid it didnt bother me for the price. It continued to deteriorate and I stopped going. About a month ago I happened to see a billboard stating "Spotlight Cinema - new management/newly renovated" and I thought haha yeah right. Then, while searching Fandango, I saw that Beauty and the Beast was playing at St. Andrews and I knew my wife wanted to see it again. Out of curiosity, I googled it and was rather shocked at so many 4+ star reviews. So I read the reoccuring themes and decided to give it a shot. We both were surprised at the difference. Nothing fancy- just clean and friendly, with new seats and quality screens/audio. We had seen B&B at Regal for $12 each, so I was also curious to compare difference in quality screen vibrance and audio quality. While there was a small amount, it was nothing at all that would keep me from going back. My wife didnt really notice at all. Its like comparing TVs- some have slightly better visual or audio, but ultimately all are fairly similar, and when comparing price points at $3/movie vs $12 movie - 4x ticket price - youre not comparing apples to apples. My wife bought popcorn and commented that it was better than the popcorn she had gotten from a nice theater we had been to the day before. We went during the day, so I cannot comment on the parking lot lighting at night ( I remember it being dimly lit and not the safest feeling late at night years ago), but from this experience I echo many of the previous reviews- if you stopped going to the discount movies at St. Andrews because of quality, give it another shot. For $3/ticket, it was well worth it.

I wont go back to this Theater due to one person that ruins the experience. Theres a Manager whos always there. A thin bald man whos a real jerk. Ive been when theyre busy and you probably wont even notice him. However, when I went with my Mother during the day, he acted mad because we didnt buy their over priced food and drinks. I let it slide. Yesterday I took my Girlfriend to a daytime movie and being that both of us are about 6 feet tall and the seats are a little cramped for us, we put our feet on the back of the seats. Mind you there were 5 total people in the theatre. Whether we were wrong for doing this or not is beside the point. He was aggressive about it! He pounded on the window and yelled for us to put our feet down! Believe me I had plenty to say to him, but he hid in his little film room and wouldnt look me in the eye. I wanted to leave, but I stayed for my girlfriend. All he had to do was walk over to us and kindly ask us to put our feet down. He needs to learn common manners.

Just moved here to the Columbia area. Took my son to see "Home" last night -the 9:10 showing as was advertised on google as St Andrews spotlight cinemas (same place here as where these reviews are). Drove 30 min to be told there is no 9:00 showing. I was perturbed but I thought well maybe I had googled wrong theater by mistake....Not the case -just checked it again and it states correct address and that there is a 9:10pm showing of home. Now I see something about new ownership, please update your website that comes up under google, we will give it another try but was disappointing.

Its a great, cheap way to see a movie on the big screen just before it comes out on DVD. We rarely go to a newly released movie because of the price, so this is a great last chance to see a movie in a theater. And the concessions are great and reasonably prices as well. Ownership has just changed, which excites me even more because the previous owner was not very personable and could be downright rude at times. Im looking forward to seeing what the new owners do with the place, I just hope the prices stay close to the same. I would gladly recommend this theater to anyone I know.

Not a top of the line theater, but for the price it is well worth it. $2 movie tickets are just awesome! For $20 a family of 4 can see a movie and get popcorn and drinks. No where else is that possible. There are some broken seats, but keep looking and you will find plenty of good ones. Dont put your feet on the backs of the seats... its just common courtesy and thats what breaks the seats. The popcorn is by far the best movie theater popcorn you will ever find. My husband has wanted to stop by there just for the popcorn!

Have gone here for years yes the seats are broken and the bathroom is weird and the manager is a bit on the special side but a new movie for 2 bucks what a deal! especially for a single mom on a budget trying to give her child an affordable day out. . and I have to side with the manager about girls putting their feet on the seats... how do you think those seats got broken girls? looking forward to seeing the new changes and hope you plan on being there for us for many more enjoyable years, thanks for the memories.

Some movies you just WANT to see on a full screen. Nice area of town, safe. Get to pick from 5 or it may be 6 choices. Some of theaters are stadium and nicer than the others. True many of the seats broken. True the male manager is a little tense and anxious, but he is getting much better. the staff under him, are courteous. The sound system is too loud for me at times. But all in all, for $2 it is such a good bargain that it more than makes up for all the rest.

My parents would take my sister and I here years ago during the original ownership. So happy to see it open again! You cant argue with the price of the tickets or concessions. There are no 3D movies, but that really doesnt matter. The movies are good, quality sound and picture. And, they brought in some arcade games just like the old owners had. Something for the kids to do either waiting for a movie to start or something fun after a movie.

This theater is NASTY. We moved from NC and went to the discount theater all the time, but this theater is beyond bad. We went through 4 rows of seats to find two that were not broken, but even then they were not good. It stinks. We have been our two times; first and last. Its not worth the $2 movie price to sit in this theater two hours for a movie. Rent a redbox and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. Its cheaper.

Ive been a few times here and my kids and I have a great time. Sure, its not a top of the line theater, but what do you expect for a $1.50 ticket? With 4 kids, its difficult to hit a movie these days. This theater has pretty new movies and the quality is just fine, never had a complaint from the kids yet. Want to spend $50 for a movie night, go somewhere else. Want something affordable, this place fits the bill.
