Great seats are the one pro for this theater. They are the first class, electric reclining seats that are generally sold in expensive home theater stores. The cons for this movie theater are the service, popcorn quality and sound from other movies. The service is poor at the concession stands. Its usually staffed with slow-working people and the concession stands are often under-staffed. They also have an "AMC Rewards" line that is supposed to allow AMC rewards members a shorter wait but their is no direction at the line so it usually doesnt make any difference in terms of the wait so whether or not your are an AMC Rewards member plan on getting to the theater 30 minutes prior to your showtime if you want to get any candy, popcorn. Also, they use one of the "cheapest" popcorns on the market so its not even that good to begin with. The other con is sound from other movies. Its great in your movie because they upgraded all the sound systems and have them set at a very loud setting which sounds great in your theater but the one con is the soundproofing in the walls is not great (like the popcorn) so you will easily hear all the loud sounds in the theater next to you. If you can somehow plan your movie next to a quiet movie you are in luck but if you are next to an action movie with explosions and other loud sounds plan on hearing those sounds throughout your movie.

Went here late friday night to see New Years Eve. Despite being probably the worst movie ever our experience was overall pretty great. I have been to this theater a few times and never had any trouble getting tickets which is great. Their ticket machine tend not to work and this should be remedied. The concession stand can get busy but we didnt have to wait long at our most recent visit. The guy that helped us was super friendly and went out of his way to talk to us. He seemed to really enjoy working there which you dont always find. He really made our moviegoing experience great. Our movie was in this tiny theater which I have never been to before. Kind of strange. The main problem with the small theater was I felt that they kept the same volume as a larger theater so a little too loud. There was decent seating so the size wasnt a problem this time. Tickets can be pricey but its the city. I would recommend getting the stubs card and right now they are offering a $6 holiday deal! Another great tip is going to films before noon, they are only $6! Its a great way to see new releases without long lines and for a steal. Its a good one and I definitely will be returning in the future and hope to run into more enthusiastic employees.

This is my local theater and although it is nice compared to other NYC theaters, its still nothing special. In any state or country, this would be considered a dump. The majority of theaters are downstairs, where its always dirty and smells like mildew. I came here recently to see Interstellar with a friend. I noticed a large yellow stain on the screen and mistakenly pointed it out to him. It distracted us the entire time. Ten minutes later, we found two more yellow stains, a total of 3 massive yellow stains for a movie that was supposed to be worth seeing for its graphics. In another movie, the screen kept blacking out and an attendant came in to promise us each a free ticket after the movie. That was a lie. Despite this, I do like the convenience of this location, the size of the theater, and the consistency. It will have to do.

I really like Kips Bay as hard as I may try to stay away and support smaller "cash only" places (thats right, you know theyre not fully reporting their taxes!), its just too convenient. They accept AMC movie passes (you can buy in bulk to alleviate that horrible $11 NYC movie ticket). They also have $6 movies on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on shows before noon. Neat! Ive never had the experience of hearing public transportation rumblings downstairs (you know thats happened to you in this city) and the one time the movie sound gave out for 3 minutes, I asked for a refund and got it without a hint of a problem. Its missing one star because it lacks in character, but really, thats ok.

Seriously gross spot. Our seats were dirty, and since its assigned seating (!!!) you cant just move to a better seat. A lot of people that go here are nasty and/or disrespectful (or, at the very least, a lot of people who went to the screening I attended were awful). People had their shoes off, people were texting and taking selfies during the movie, people were talking, et cetera. 30 minutes of trailers, $30+ dollars for the tickets, and then so much disruption from all around us. Also, the popcorn was bad. Too salty, too oily, and stale. Threw out most of the bag. There is zero chance that I will ever see a movie in this theater ever again.

AMCs Kip Bay location is one of the best theaters you can go to in New York City. I actually stumbled upon it winning some Fandango tix to Michael Jacksons "This Is It" when it premiered. Its one of my favorite theaters in NYC based on the atmosphere. You dont really see teenie bobbers or kids here based on its location being 4 blocks from the 6 train. So not too many people even know about it. The snacks are usually fresh, bathrooms clean, and theaters tidy. I have come here for screeners, IMAX showings for the past few years and it hasnt gone down since.

I been here a couple of times but most recently Lapin and I came here to watch the Jurassic World and the Minion Movie. Depending on what theatre you get, the seats could be either comfy or scratchy. The screens would be either big or smaller than expected. There are hardly any lines and both times we went there were plenty of seats and the staff is pretty nice. The bathrooms are generally clean or borderline tolerable. The movie theater itself is decently sized. Call ahead if you want a specific movie as what appears online differs every time we went there.

A premier destination for IMAX VR and incredibly comfortable reclining seats. The new menu as of 2017 has every bite pop so much that employees who once hated the food just cant stop eating it! Myself included, as a driver and delivery worker in the Kips Bay area. I frequent this theater during breaks and always feel welcome. Two citi-bike depots nearby make it readily accessible for medium-to-short treks from around Manhattan. Not to mention, theres a very convenient rock and fire type Pokémon spawn just down a few blocks. Along with the waterfront by FDR

The worst popcorn Ive ever tasted and way overpriced. Microwave popcorn is better than what they have. The cost goes up every year. The seats are gross and havent been cleaned ever. I have to place a paper towel on the seat behind my head. They listed the movie now you see me 2 at 10:30am a week ago, I then went to the theater at 10:10am and found out they changed the movie time at last minute to 10:04am so missed the movie & then got no coutesy from the supervisor. I rather now just buy microwave popcorn and watch the movie when it comes out on on demand
