The Inn of the Mountain Gods is a beautiful resort, that is certain. But the poor customer service and false advertising to get customers into the casino gives this place a big thumbs DOWN. I took my son to ride the paddleboats a few summers ago. Paid over $30 to rent the boat for an hour. Immediately upon getting into the boat we had issues. My seat would not stay upright, kept popping back so that I had to lay horizontally to paddle. It was not a size issue.. my son was very thin about 14 years old and his seat would not remain upright either. Having to lay at a strange angle while wearing a full life vest was extremely uncomfortable. I managed to paddle us to land and jumped into the water at about 5 feet, got to the shore. Walked back along the banks, soaked, and told the people at the boat rental shack what happened. We had been in the boat maybe 5 minutes. No body offered to refund or partial refund. One of the attendants seemed annoyed they had to go walk along the banks to get the boat. This was a dark spot on our outing and I was out my money. The customer service should have refunded my money if all they had to rent out was a faulty boat. This could have been dangerous to someone who was unable to lay flat and paddle the boat to shore, they would have been stranded in the center of a deep lake. Now on to 2013. There are billboards and advertisements all over for the new Ford truck giveaway at the Inn of the Mt Gods casino. So my elderly mother went to see how to enter. She was there 11-17-13. She was told that she had to wager $100 for each single chance to enter to win. So she went out into the casino, lost $100+ and went back to customer service. The girl there then told her that her bets DID buy her one chance to enter to win, but only on her NEXT visit. This is outrageous and my mother should have been told that from the get go. She lives out of area and will not be returning to the casino, so she was out her $100+ and she did not even get her one chance to win the truck. Inn of the Mountain Gods should not have to resort to trickery and deception to fool elderly people or the gullible into wasting their money in a casino for a NON-chance to win a vehicle. I will never be returning back to the Inn of the Mountain Gods.

Worst experience ever !! Extremely rude and unwelcoming staff and protocols. From the receptionists to the buffet servers, everyone had a very bad attitude and made us feel unwelcome. Expect no apology for ridiculous delays in service or for rudness. I ordered a lemonade and was served doctor pepper. When I told that there must be a mistake, the server started at me and repeatedly kept saying that I had ordered wrong. I have never even tasted doctor pepper in my life. I hate cherry flavor. The dinner buffet was tasteless exept for the pasta. I lost a valuable (which I thankfully found later ) and reported it to the staff. The lady put our room number on a sticky note and that was it !!!! To top it all, we were locked out of our room because we couldnt check out at 11:00 am. The receptionist didnt care that we were all set to leave but got stuck with extremely delayed breakfast service where it took them 30 minutes to just serve us water. The server brought coffee but no coffee mugs ! It took another 30 minutes for breakfast to be served and there were only 3 other tables occupied at that time !! As long as you are having breakfast with them, no resort has ever made an issue about 30 minutes late check-out. The receptionist said that we were locked out so that they could charge us more !! There were no bell boys in vicinity and we had to load all our stuff ourselves. So much for a 4 star resort. They were rude to the point of being shameless. The receptionists will make you feel like they are doing you a favor by checking you in and will look down at you as if they are some celebrities. They will accommodate no requests for choice of floor. Oh...and please dont expect them to smile back at you. Every single point of human contact will disappoint you. We are never returning and will discourage all our friends for coming to this hostile environment where all we wanted to do was relax but ended up being more stressed out than ever.

My family and I frequent the Inn of the Mountain Gods every time we visit Ruidoso to play their golf course. Generally, it is a decent experience. The course is well attended to and the view is enjoyable. However, the customer service is grotesque in the most obscene of ways. The people we had to deal with, employees and management both, compose themselves in a very piss poor manor. As previously stated, my family and I visited said golf course on the fourth of July weekend. July 6th of 2014 to be exact. We had checked the weather prior to tee time and there was a 30% chance of rain for the evening. We proceeded to pay the Holiday Rates for three golfers and a rider which totaled out to be $325. We played through the fourth hole then took cover at one of the restrooms as the rain began to pour and lightning made it unsafe for us to continue. Thirty minutes later when it was permissible for us to get back into our golf carts the marshal informed us that the golf course is now closed and to head back to the clubhouse. Upon doing so we were informed that if you only play four holes, as we did, you would get the full 18 refunded to you. As we attempted to receive our refund for the rain check the store clerk told us it could not be done in full in a very disrespectful tone. Therefore, I asked to speak with the manager just to talk to somebody who maybe knew what they were doing. In the same disrespectful manor, the manager failed to make eye contact with me and gave me a flat no before I was able to finish my sentence. Due to the uncompromising ignorance, disrespect, and money hungry mindset that the employees and management team share I will not be returning. I would suggest the Lodge in Cloudcroft, where the people are warm and the view is identical to that of the Inn, if youre looking for an enjoyable golfing experience.

Beautiful hotel. Some rough edges, but that comes with the economy. The common areas are very well kept and quite impressive, but we had a couple of large stains in our suite which was surprising. ............. Service was very hit/miss: ............ Check in and front desk was great... until check out when they only had one person doing check out and manning the phones (and in a rather bad mood) ............ Housekeeping: took 3 tries to get a crib, eventually at 7:30 pm. Apparently the enitre housekeeping staff goes on break at once??? Otherwise, housekeeping was fine. ............ "Taste of Nation" buffet. They seemed to have a challenged person running the one register, causing a substantial backup. She would ask "How many people are in your party?" "How many are children?" "How many are seniors?",... and apparently couldnt cope with the standard "2 adults and 2 kids". Im all for employing the challenged, but please dont put them at a pinch point in your service model. Beyond that, the service is set up so you cannot get your own drinks. Unfortunately, we didnt get any drinks until we were nearly finished with our meal. If we werent on a F&B credit, wed have never gone back. Fortunately, it got better from there and at our 3rd meal the service was excellent. That waitress got her tip and the tip we didnt give to the waitress from the first meal. I wonder if they ever compared notes? The food: fantastic. Well, perhaps a few misses, but more then enough excellent items to justify the price once in awhile. ............ Would give 5 stars if not for the service issues. We will likely return if the opportunity arises.
