Im very glad I waited to play this course a few times before buying a membership. The membership is a good deal, if your willing to stomach the course, people, and the odd twilight rules. Tonight, I brought 3 of my friends out there. We were just playing around and taking our time. Well, I guess this place makes their members turn in the carts at 8, with 30 minutes of daylight left. Weird. Anyway, we didnt realize this, and ended up causing the 2 Deer Lake members to get yelled at. Mind you, my friends had their cart parked almost right on top of the 18th green. The Deer Lake guy was so intent on taking down those two members, that he never said anything to us, or even noticed my friends parked on the green. Pretty strange stuff. They had been waiting on us to finish the hole for a while. When the two guys insisted on finishing the last hole, after being confronted, the attendant called the cops on them. We heard him say: "We can do this one of two ways" What? Really? Let them bloody finish! its 8:04 and theyre 2 shots away from finishing. The two guys insisted on finishing the last hole and the attendant called the cops, as he threatened he would. Wow, just wow. We took off with our carts around the corner to hole 9. My friends joked about playing hole 9, just to see if he was going to go off on us too. We didnt care in the least if he did. The attendant followed the two guys to the cart return, still fighting with them. One of them pointed us out, and rightfully so. The attendent looked right at us, and then turned his focus back to the two members. He proceeded to hound these poor guys all the way to their vehicles. At that point, they really just wanted to get away. Sad We finally turned in our cart well behind them at 820. Nothing was ever said to us. We left in peace. I heard one of them say: weve been members here for 4 years. The attendant said that meant nothing. This is a shi**y golf course, and the manager is a bit**. I played here 6 times and in that time, I learned the managers name is Linda, and I disagree, She is delightful and upbeat, lots of personality. I am curious if she is aware of the evening manners of her people. I am writing this review because in reflecting back, my friends and I were nothing short of obnoxious. If we had been playing with etiquette, we would have let those guys play threw. That would have fixed the whole thing. I didnt realize the intensity of the rules. We were just clowning around. We had no intention of causing someone to be humiliated and to have the cops called on them. I personally feel bad and would happily apologize to those guys. We talked with them a couple of times during the round. They were genuinely nice dudes, and we were jerks to them. I really do feel terrible. Needless to say, I was appalled and will never be coming back here again. The course is pretty plain. I played it a handful of times and it was quickly getting old. Add in the terrible and aggressive behavior of some of the staff, and Deer Lake isnt such a great deal anymore. Glad Im not a member, truly. Golfed here from 4pm to 8:20pm Saturday July 8th 2017 We were fortunate in our round. We went largely unharrassed, and unmolested; but, then again, we are not members. Again, sorry dudes, we had no idea the severity of going a few minutes past 8, with 30 minutes of daylight left. That guy was a psycho. We saw him be rude to a few different people, it wasnt just you. For what it is worth. We feel terrible, and I speak for my 3 pals as well.

I played a round here a couple of weeks ago despite all of the negative reviews about the staff, the way I figure is that I am on the course 99% of the time that I am there so who cares about the staff. Expecting to basically be run out of the clubhouse I was prepared for the worst. I went in the proshop and was pleasantly greeted by a younger guy. I think his name was Duane but Im not sure on that. I told him that after reading the reviews I almost didnt come out. He told me thanks for giving them a try and that he appreciated me coming out. I went out to play and realized I had forgotten my putter. I went back in and asked if he had one I could rent, he told my that he would let me borrow his own personal putter. By the way it was a Nike Method, so nice I have reecently gone to buy one of my own. I was absolutely shocked that he would let a stranger borrow his own putter. I played the course and it was nice, a few greens had a spot here and there but with the summer we had I havent played a course lately that didnt have a spot or two. I thought for the money, it was a pretty good deal. Also they have alcohal while the other courses in Springfield do not. I would like to join this club but I am in Florida for about 4 months out of the year and he said that there was no way to have a membership the other 8 months. I will definately be returning because of the service.

Just finished shooting an 83. Course is in OK shape its pretty dry right now, 3 greens have bad spots. Some holes are nice and green others are left to dry. Hi-way traffic by some holes make talking impossible. One or two challenging holes the rest are pretty plain. The place acts like its a high dollar club and cost more than other local clubs. ($24 to walk vs. $18). The people that run it are rude and for this I will never go back. I walked in with a reserved tee time from Golf18network. The guy tosses a key at me and say cart 63 turns and walks away. No hello, no are you here to play a round or are you the 11:04 tee time. Then the bathrooms by hole 11..... Broken door with the door knob on the sink. A squirrel that ran out between my legs because it had a stash in the bathroom. An inch of dust and dirt on everything including the squirrel poo. One knob on the sink and water hardly came out at all. Last but not least no paper towels and a stinking full trash can. My wife said that the womens bathroom was just as bad.

This golf course isnt that long, or overly difficult, even playing from the back tees. It is just fun. A great place to relax and enjoy a nice day. Trust me, there are plenty of challenging holes, but after warming up on the expansive driving range, and a few practice putts, you should feel up for whatever each hole has to offer.

I used to play at Deer Lake years ago, and I joined again last March. It is looking really good right now. Very nice course. I got my second hole in one last Friday on #17. Now thats fun. The staff is always nice and I love playing it. There are a few challenging holes. Try it; youll like it. :-)

Miserable... $15 for a cart... Got a friend? He has to pay $15 to ride in the you already paid for... Greens are shotty, people running the place are rude and dismissive... Ill play rivercut over this northside disaster any day...
