This is a great museum! Must go see it! For those who dont know what it is, it is a jail used in the early to mid 1800s famous for holding the mormon prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. This I a great way to learn about the history of the surrounding areas. The jail no longer exists but with pictures of the original jail they have built a replica inside the visitors center. They offer free guided tours and have a great presentation! It is a must do if you are in the area!

I am not Becky im Julie Densham Edwards I love this place such happy memories from when i worked their as a tour guide. I was the only English missionary who had served in the mission at the time. I wonder if you still have my little Christmas tree it was too big to pack when i returned home from my mission. I loved all i worked with especially the Belnaps who have both sadly passed on and of course my 3 compaions. Pleaze give ALL there in Liberty my love and i love you guys x

I ve been twice once with my 11 year old daughter and once with my 15 year old daughter. The guides were amazing. The history and spiritual power of the hallowed ground was amazing. The wax figures and the artifacts are COOL. I am Mormon- I grew up in Illinois Ive done Nauvoo it is AMAZING I live in Md now and weve done Palmyra and Kirtland every other year also amazing - pyrotechnics even. Even having seen all that Liberty Jail totally stands out.

Its a cool site, they built a building around the jail and the missionaries give you a nice tour and lots of good background history about the church in that time period. Dont expect it to be the fastest tour . We were there almost an hour. But the spirit is there! Glad we went.

A sacred place for those that believe. Read the related material in the Church History in the Fulness of Times institute student manual from the Gospel Library App. The more prepared you are, the better experience youll have.

Great venue to learn about the history of the Mormon church in Missouri. It is staffed by missionaries from the Mormon church and it is done in a very respectful and informative way. It is free and Id recommend going.

Surrounded in a residential area, this is a small visitors center, but a powerful reminder of the resilrency and refinement of Joseph Smith as a prophet.
