I have recently moved back to Michigan, and was thrilled to find out Freedom Hill was open again! I used to frequent the venue, and was so disappointed that it had to shut down for awhile. I am a classical musician, so I hate hearing about things like that. Anyway, I went to see Kool and the Gang with my Mom last night, 6/30. We live about ~9 miles away from the venue, and left with ample time to get settled at the concert and maybe grab a drink or two. Although we left early, it took us a solid 90 minutes to get there and park. Ridiculous! Apparently there was a carnival going on as well, which we had no idea about. The planning for this, and the parking situation was absolutely unacceptable and atrocious. But, at that point I was still optimistic. It takes awhile to get to a show sometimes, and maybe I should have known enough to research if there was or was not a carnival going on at the same time. So, after parking and losing a shoe in the mud (whatever, Im outdoorsy, I can deal) on the way to the amphitheater, I was (and this is a bit of praise) thrilled to see the improvements that have been made since I last visited (about 8 years ago). It looked great, and the bathrooms were much improved. Concessions: Way overpriced. The venue is not of that caliber yet to justify an $8 watery beer. Also, the wait staff, though very friendly, were pretty unenthusiastic and unhelpful (I dont blame them.). This could use some revamping, in my opinion. But, its better than it used to be. Concert: Although it started very late, I thought it was great! Sound system was dialed in, and loved the seats and show. Had a great time with my Mom (aside from the couple that was one base away from having intercourse in the row in front of us, but what are you going to do?). This section is why Im giving this show a horrible rating: After the show it was a nightmare leaving the parking lot. Concert ended at about 10:45, we get to the car at 11:00. and there is no one moving. Lines and lines of cars, no movement or progress. So, not wanting to kill the battery, we sat in the car for over an hour. Only then was there slight progress in the line(s) of traffic, so we decided to get on board and pick a line. Mistake. Still stand-still. Ive been to many many shows and events, and this is the WORST I have ever seen in terms of logistical planning for traffic, etc. Awful. We sat there in line another hour, and at this point people were leaving their vehicles to go to the bathroom in the woods. Also, peoples tempers started to flair. Having lived through Hurricane Sandy, it somewhat reminded of that sort of situation. You could not get anywhere, and there was no one around to help once you got to the point of actually leaving the parking lot (which was a 2 hour process.) All in all, took us 2.5 hours to get home, and my Mom had to get up for work very early. It was a nightmare, and although the concert was fun, I will NEVER go to Freedom Hill again. Unless I ride my bike there.

I purchased 2 unobstructed view tickets for REO Speedwagon (3rd row from the stage on left side) There were no seats in front of myself and wife. The seats were $90. When we arrived and attempted to sit in out seats we were informed by someone name Alice that she had moved us to different seats and that our seats were given to someone else and that it was a management decision and we didnt have a choice in the seat reassignment. The new seats they forced us to take were much worse than the originals I purchased at their box office. I went to a supervisor named Bovain and he said it was a management decision to give my seats to someone else and he couldnt do anything about it. This situation was unacceptable to me so I filed a complaint at the customer service booth at the event, asked for a refund that I did NOT get, and then promptly left. I contacted Freedom Hill several times in the following days. In my first contact I was told that my seats were taken from me to give to a customer of theirs that had been a chronic complainer in the past. They said that they comped him a seat next to mine and later he purchase a seat elsewhere for his girlfriend and he wanted her to sit next to him. I was told it was supposed to be an option for me to move. In fact, at the event we were given no option and told we had to accept it because the decision came down from management. They did this service for him by doing a disservice to me and my wife and moved us to unacceptable seats. Several more calls to freedom hill brought only promises to look into it but to this point they have not provided me a remedy. I have now disputed my charge card payment and they have lost a good customer.

Summer 2017 Yeah!!! I love, love, love Freedom Hill! Its near my neighborhood and Ive gotten to catch up and see all the bands I missed growing up because my parents couldnt/wouldnt take me when I was younger. I am in an awesome time warp!!! Boston, Foreigner, White Snake, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton, Beach Boys, Yes, Toto, Blue Oyster Cult, The Romantics, Judas Priest, Tears For Fears, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Steve, Miller, Berlin w/ Terri Nunn, Rick Springfield and so on and so on...... we arent done yet. Santana and Lynyrd Skynyrd are coming up. Every seat is a good seat so I dont feel like I have to pay for the more expensive ones to be closer. If you are sure of good weather the lawn is even a great place to sit! The bathroom lines move fast. The food and drinks are pretty expensive like any venue but they let you bring in juice and snacks if your kids have a special diet. If you call or email them with a question they are really good about getting back to you. Our family does miss the 4rth of July Fair and Fireworks. Too bad it had to move all the way to Novi this year. It was always in Mt. Clemens for a long time and then Freedom Hill so that was an extreme move. Hoping they will bring it back to the Eastside.

Great venue, but if youre going to eat here and have dietary restrictions, DO NOT TRUST THEM. When making a reservation for food on their website, they give you an option to pick "vegan," "dairy allergy," etc. But they dont pay attention to that at all, literally. The manager told us "the chef pays no attention to that" when we told her we selected the vegan option on the website. We arent vegan, but my wife has a severe dairy and egg allergy that most people dont understand even when they offer a dairy allergy option, so we frequently eat vegan since "dairy allergy" doesnt account for eggs. They said 2 of the things on the buffet were vegan, but it was really hard to trust anything they said since the chef doesnt pay attention or care about dietary restrictions. They kept trying to offer her a black bean burger, but when we pressed them on what was in it, it turns out it has parmesan in it (true vegans, take note). Due to her not being able to eat anything, she also couldnt drink, which made me drink less than I otherwise wouldve (management, take note, you lost money. I usually drink a fair bit at shows, as does my wife). We also left the show early so she could get some food. So, yeah, plan accordingly.
