i had the same bad experience as the woman who posted a review about being ticked off that they seated people after the show started. we went to see Annie and when we got there a lot of people were still outside waiting to get in. the security person told us to go directly to our seats because there wouldnt be late seating. we went right to our seats. they started the show 10 minutes late because people were still getting to their seats and 15 minutes into the show they were still seating people. i was not at all happy. the best scenes are at the beginning of the show and I people were blocking our view waiting for the employee to figure out where their seats were. If they say on the ticket no late seating then there should be no late seating. and whats even more annoying is that most of the people had food so they were in line at the concessions at 2;00 when they should have been in their seats. concessions should close at 1:50 so that people have to go to their seats.

I had been to several musicals at the Fox and have always kinda liked the place...its beautiful, but the tickets are always so expensive. Though, on occasion I will bite the bullet and splurge. Never again. I went to see Bob Dylan play a show there tonight and we nearly had to be escorted out for DANCING. I wish I was kidding, but unfortunately Im not. Most of everyone was sitting down. And there were several people getting upset at other people for standing up. However, my partner and I were enjoying the show immensely (being big fans of Mr. Dylan) and really wanted to dance. We were told by management we needed to sit down and if we didnt wed be escorted out. My partner complained to the customer service representative and she told us that we paid for a seat, not to dance and "act a fool". Those were her exact words. Im sorry, but Ive never in my life ever been to a concert and was told to sit down. Im really disappointed and will not be returning to this venue.

The theatre is beautiful and the shows are wonderful but its either the staff or the orders they are given that make it a less than stellar experience. We went to see at 2:00 showing of Annie. Even after the show began, groups of people were still being seated blocking the view and making others move around while they looked for their seats. This went on for at least the first 15 minutes of the show. If people cant make it on time, they shouldnt be able to ruin it for others. Then for all the ushers that are there to enforce seating (rightfully so), could some of them be assigned to scan for cell phones that are on? We were treated to the glare of Facebook and email throughout the show by several people in our vicinity. I expected more from the Fox experience.

Wait, Wait, Dont Tell Me at the Fox This theater is an experience by itself and adding one of my favorite NPR shows made it a fabulous evening that Ill remember for a long time. I must thank my friend Lea at WDET Detroit Public Radio, who got me amazing tickets. Shes in the first picture. Thank you, Lea! The brilliantly restored decor of this theater is astonishingly detailed. Theres always something one realizes one has not yet seen. It is all indescribably beautiful. The radio show "live" recording was hilarious. I havent laughed that hard in a long time. I enjoyed all the ad-libbing on the part of the celebrity guests, and the expert from GM (?) was a riot. So I"m recommending the theater and also the radio show! A truly fantastic combination!

First of all its an architectural gem for Detroit and a feast for the eyes for any who visit Detroit you MUST see a show the Fox! Great views from every seat but the best views are from the mezzanine. Each section boasts different views of both the theatre and the lobby from internal balconies. The best ticket is for a Suite! You get a delicious full buffet served at 5:30, a private bar, dessert server at intermission, big comfortable couches and tables with a wait staff, vip access through the side entrance, and best of all you get to go up the big central staircase which is normally roped off. There is a huge Christmas tree there during the holidays and its a great photo op! No matter whats showing the Fox Theatre will make it an event!

The venue itself is beautiful! Great views from all seats, and a true jem in the city of Detroit! Staff is rude, uninformed, lacks communication, and the security is under trained, negligent, & disrespectful. I was informed I could, "Go back in and enjoy the show with my mother or file a complaint which is a lengthy process." What type of venue uses the tickets Ive already purchased as leverage to avoid a formal complaint when my experience has been ruined? My lengthy formal complaint process was a brochure with a handwritten standard email and customer service line number.

Mike Illitch has always been into gouging as much money as he can out of Sports & Theater fans in Detroit. Only when the latest economic downturn really hit Detroit and Michigan, enough complaining about his prices, and empty seats finally woke him up to reduce prices on some tickets. Why is it when I call the Fox Theater Box Office, today January 2, 2012, I get a long list of events that go back to OCTOBER 2011 ??!! Cant anybody update this list at least every month instead of listing events that Happened 2-3 months ago ??!! Wake somebody up at the Box Office !!!

It is a very nice theater. It is part of the NRHP. Ornate architecture, trim and plaster work throughout. Easy to get to. Parking in the Fox Parking Garage is okay. The theatre itself is 5 stars. The management of the theatre, namely the amount of information made available prior to the show is lacking (doors open at?, allowed into seating area at what time, etc.) Every show is different I understand, but a little communication would go a long way. When you ask a worker how long the show is and they have to run and check, it leaves me wondering.

Easily the most beautiful venue in Michigan, the 5,000 seat Fox Theater hosts everything from rock concerts to The Rockettes and "Sesame Street Live". The lobby is a jaw dropping 1920s architectural masterpiece which blends highly ornate Far Eastern design details into a truly one-of-a-kind space. The Fox also boasts great acoustics great sight lines from every seat. Located near the heart of downtown, parking is ample with many nearby restaurants, bars, and hotels. I highly doubt theres another venue quite like this in the country. A must see.
