No cover charge but a one-drink minimum. Must be 21 to enter. Small stage often crowded. Great music mostly Jazz and Blues. Piano stands right next to the bar and sitting on a high bar stool the pianist might grab your ankle on a high note. $5 for a bottle of Abita is not bad considering. The bartender never pushed a second drink but was right there when I wanted one. I heard outstanding music here and years ago I watched a couple, both in their late 60s, get up and dance a 2 step while Washboard Chaz was playing. Watching the couple move gracefully to the music, I decided then and there that I wish to be like this when I am old, still dancing, still enjoying life and good music. I did two classes of cajun and 2 step but will need a refresher soon.

The Spotted Cat is the New Orleans you always imagine when you watch movies. The place us literally smaller than my apartment. People cram into every corner. A band called the Reboppers play on stage. And as if in a movie from days gone by people still smoke in the bar. The music is beautiful. The bar is not refined but memorable. And the bartender still calls you baby, sugar, or honey. This place is great and one of the best of New Orleans. Insider Tip: Bring cash because they dont accept credit cards

Walked in...Order was a PBR and a Corona. $8.50 worth of drinks got back $3.00. Asked for change received second bartender as buffer. Gave $3.00 as tip cause the 2nd bartender did not want to turn around and ask thief bartender to talk to me. Walked away....bartender followed me with threats. Laughed then continued to walk out...1st bartender felt bad I guess and stopped hiding and acting like she had no idea how to count and put two $5 bills in my pocket. Hmmm.mmmmmm..........

Le Spotted cat est référencé dans de nombreux guides, donc vous y trouverez des touristes. Vraiment sympa pour écouter de la musique live, joli cadre, chouettes bières, difficile de trouver de la place pour sasseoir mais avec un peu de patience...

Interesting place full oft music. Unfortunately the 3$ Softdrinks are undrinkable due heavy chlorine taste. I guess that happens if they do not purify/filter the bad tapwater before mixing. Other Drinks were OK, but a bit pricy. I will not rate cleaningness of bar/restrooms as it would lead to a rating that this bar doesnt deserve ;-) As a bar I would rate it somewhere between 1.5 and 2 stars. The athmosphere and the live music 4.5 stars. In total 3 stars.

Best bar in new orleans. If you want to sit get there early and drink all day, a chore i know, and listen to great live jazz in a cozy dive all day. The hipsters that have taken over the street is the only drawback, just slap them in the face if they get too close, they confuse easily and dont understand how to act when faced with real world consequences , i find thats usually the best repellent

Bartender refused me water after I paid a cover and bought drinks. Were here dancing, bringing our friends and partners through the door, after I had two or three cups he told me I had to buy it for $3 a bottle. Also, only had one bartender on a drinking holiday night, which is just poor planning. Made sure not to bring anyone back for the rest of our trip, the other clubs are more fun anyways.

Cash only, super tiny, not much in the way of seating. None of these are negatives, just things to plan for as you prep for an amazing night of local music with friends and people who will be friends. The jazz vipers played with random guests joining in throughout the night, and people were dancing and singing along to old standards. I definitely want to go back.

Nothin but love for Frenchman St. There are fine musicians everywhere and The Spotted Cat is no exception. If you want to hear jazz and blues at its best, dance with who brung ya, or dance with a stranger (or alone for that matter) spend some time here, have a cocktail, and dont forget to throw a dollar or two in the tip bucket for the bands, they deserve it.

The Cat used to be dirty, smaller and better. The music is still great but the locals have been replaced by the wanna-bes. Bigger now, started with moving the stage to other side and making it bigger, then becoming "not the cat" then the cat again, but with new signs and not- quite-right ambiance. Good for noobs but time to find a new place.

The band playing was great. The atmosphere was good. The only issue we had was that the place is very small and there werent many places to sit. There were chairs at the bar of course and just a row of seats along one wall with only 2 very small bar height tables. Had we been able to sit and enjoy the band we wouldve stayed longer.

The old Spotted Cat had a rough summer, changing hands twice and briefly being something else, but its back this October with many of the same bands that made it every trad-jazz fans favorite Spot, including the Panorama Jazz Band, The Loose Marbles, the Cottonmouth Kings of New Orleans, and more. Be there or be square.

I think the highlight of my trip to New Orleans was here. We stopped in after visiting the art fair next door because the music sucked us in. Amazing jazz (I dont typically like jazz) in this small trendy old bar. The number of people goes up and down as groups stop for a song and leave again. The music was on point.

To hear the local jazz play with a cold beer, is the why you would want to venture here. The room is small and cousy that also means humid, hot, and quickly smells like people. Just as many get out on the side walk to breath when the set is done. If youre used to the heat, drop by, just dont expect any cuddling.

Small spot with live music on Frenchman street. Cheep beers and a more authentic New Orleans compared to Bourbon Street. Next door is Frenchman market where artists sell their incredible work, although sellers change from day to day. Regulars frequent the bar and are happy to chat, staff are very friendly.
