Upon entering we were overwhelmed by the delicious aroma of the food. Everyone at the place was very friendly (including the other patrons). It was such a welcoming atmosphere. Not being very familiar with Ethiopian cuisine, our server was eager to explain the various dishes and took great pride in being able to share information about his culture. The foods are not radically exotic and do not require a acquired taste, so it is great for someone who is not that adventurous to be able to try something really new and different. They had a selection of Ethiopian beers which I had never heard of before. I sampled 2 and loved them. Then our meal came and it was even better than the aroma would have led me to believe. When finished, everyone (including the friendly patrons) smiled and waved. It felt like leaving a family gathering. The place itself is not very large. Perhaps a dozen tables, and a bar that seated about 10 (I believe there is a nightclub attached as well, though I did not see that part of the establishment). The vibe of the restaurant was very casual, but we also felt right at home being a little dressed up (having just come from a show at the Mixed Blood theatre which is easily within walking distance). They had Ethiopian music playing in the background. It was lively, but still very easy to carry on a conversation with our friends at the table. It would be a perfect place for a date, or small groups of 4-6 people. I could not recommend this place enough. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Come here for some authentic Ethiopian tibs, spiced tea, and more. The menu has plates for multiple peoplethat are "family-style", where you eat directly from, as well as personal entrées. If you are not familiar with the cuisine, but you like Indian food, youll likely enjoy this (a lot of African food has ties to Indian food). Its adjacent to a place with loud modern music, which you will hear if you sit in the back but not notice in the front. Its a popular place for locals and people from outside the city. Its certainly a "gem of Cedar Ave." Head down two doors to the Keefer Cafe and Bakery for dessert after a meal here.

have been coming to the red sea, off and on for the past 30 years. the quality varied on who owned it at any given time. August 1 2017 had the lunch buffett. i guess not too bad for the price, but it could just as well have been excellent with a little more attention for detail. the greens and the cabbage were very good. but the lentils werent good specially the red qey wet which i came craving to eat but found it undercooked. 15 minutes more on the burner, i would have rated it a 5.ቁሌት ያንሰዋል! pleased with the service, ambiance and melodic music.

Located by a west bank, means very nice location; therefore i used to go this place every often. Waiters are literally cheaters. They always charge me for the things i havent ordered at all. Basically this guys are nothings rather than opening a business to rip people off unfairly. Twice me and my friends complained about bills and asked the waiters if we can talk to the manager/owner this lady come out and yelled to us. I will never go there again. The Red Sea bar is cool though.

My boyfriend and I went there because it was recommend. At the beginning everything was nice, but when we placed our food it took more than 45 minutes, two, Mayen three other tables (parties) came after us and got their food right away and we still waited for the food, we ended up leaving without getting our food. We are extremely disappointed and personally I dont think I want to go back again. My advice try other places! This really sucked!

Vegetarian lunch buffet was a great deal at $9.95! The bread and rice were nice accompaniments to the variety of curry-like dishes. The star of the show for me were the veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) in a light green sauce. The interior was cozy, and the server was friendly but was difficult to track down when I was ready to pay. Hopefully I will be back at a dinner time to try some main entree dishes and some drinks.

Perhaps the best Ethiopean reastaurant in Minneapolis. Our Ethiopean friends agree. Flavorful and lean cooking, great service, and friendly staff. My favorites are the veggie sampler, Dulet (beef, tripe and kidney), raw kitfo (spiced ground beef), the doro wat (spicy chicken stew), and the Ethiopean spiced tea, and the beers (of course)...

Contrary to what many others may say, I believe this is the best Ethiopian joint in town. Good selection of Ethiopian beers and a huge menu. We always do the veggie combo and then a double meat combo and go home feeling stuffed. Generally easy to get a table but definitely turns into a louder bar atmosphere on weekend nights.

Delicious every time. Family owned and operated serving some if the best Ethiopian food around. Staff have always been friendly and helpful, going out of their way to provide excellent service. The food tastes incredibly fresh, with all the complex flavors that are the hallmark of this cuisine. Highly recommend!

The food here is amazing. Its easily my favorite Ethiopian food restaurant. And the staff is very friendly and kind. If youve never had Ethiopian food, you should go here to try it. And if youve had Ethiopian food, still check this place out-itll probably become your new favorite.

This may be the best Ethiopian/Somali restaurant in the metro, good food and comfortable. Men gather here for coffee and conversation, they are moved away when you want a table. Both meat and veggie foods are good and we usually order one of each.

The Best Ethiopian Restaurant in MN. Serves authentic Ethiopian Cuisine made fresh. Decor is cultural, depicting the beauty that is Ethiopia. Service is superb and the food is a delightful and delicious experience that you shall never forget.

My fiance got the West Bank Tibs and I got the Yebeg Tibs. We had never had dinner here before and we were extremely impressed. Everything was well cooked and flavorful without being too strong. Will visit again.
