In continuation from my account of my visit to the city of Chicago - next we started walking our way out from the Millennium Park. Although the roads are quite busy, but walking on the sidewalks and through the park was a pleasant experience. The best part was they have placed road maps on the streets, which are a useful guide. The Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain - is the largest fountains in the world. There is a beautiful display from the fountain at regular intervals. The fountain in itself is a beautiful piece of architecture and is one of the major landmarks of Chicago. It is said that the fountain was donated by Kate S.Buckingham in honor of her brother Clarence.Kate was an art patron and a philanthropist and was the last of the Buckingham family. There is the Grant park in less than 500 meters - which is heavily planted with trees and blooming flowers. The pathways have a special charisma and have been designed in such a way that they bring out the photographer in you to capture the beauty. The fountain is surrounded by a good number of hotels, I believe - the Congress Hotel was easy to spot nearby. There are few benches where you could just let yourself get sunk in the view. :) Just have a look at the first picture - fountain with the surrounding high rise buildings, picturesque isnt it?! Cheers to life!! ~Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step! :)

Most of my early memories of Chicago involve the zoo, the beach, and Grant Park. Specifically the Taste of Chicago, picnics in the park, a huge flock of birds flying around, and what sticks out the most is Buckingham Fountain. I have memories of this huge fountain just running in the day and completely lit up at night. I can vividly remember my parents walking me around the fountain when we were in the city late one night and I was entranced. On top of that was seeing the fountains shoot up streams of water to the beat of different music playing throughout the day. That simple enjoyment of this majestic fountain has never left. Its something both simple and beautifully complex. Its a great area for a walk and if you have kids they are going to love it. (I do suggest having them there at least once as its getting dark out just to enjoy the colorful light show from the water.)

"Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain" designed by Edward H. Bennett as an allegorical representation of Lake Michigan. Inspired by Latona Basin at Palace of Versailles, France. Fountain from the 1909 Plan of Chicago, paid for by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother Clarence and dedicated in 1927. Located in central Grant Park, due east of intersection of East Congress Parkway and South Columbus Drive. Fountain and gardens are west of S. Lakeshore Drive, south of E. Jackson Drive, and north of E. Balbo Ave. Public toilets are open from Memorial Day in late May through Labor Day in early September.

A must see fountain nesteled in the heart of Grant Park. This fountain is one of the landmarks for the city of chicago and is one of the largest fountains in the world. It is built in a rococo wedding cake style and inspired by Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles, it is meant to allegorically represent Lake Michigan. Every hour there is a water show which lasts for approximately 20 minutes and is really nice. It is worth enjoying the water show in the morning and late evening after sunset . The water show with the lights and music is one of the best highlights of this fountain.

Det er bare storslået at opleve dette smukke springvand midt i en metropol som Chicago. Helt stille og roligt uden den normale støj der er i en by af denne størrelse. Dog skal man tage sig i agt for Segway kørere der ikke alle er lige kompete.

Excellent tourist location we went at the end of July and it was not too crowd. We used a bicycle taxis for my parents to move about the large garden area it was excellent. They have some people there that sold water and ice cream which was perfect on a hot day. Great thing about chicago is that its windy so you dont really feel the heat. Take out half a day and start at this fountain and walk through the park area northwards toward the bean and in that same area there are some great restaurants and Cindys for a drink!

Buckingham Fountain is a classic Chicago icon. Its straight out of a bygone era in our citys history. Any opportunity you get to enjoy the full tilt show of lights, water, and music should be taken. Its a chance to step into our own public time capsule right at the core of this great city. This fountain is one of the few places you can go and get almost exactly the same entertainment experience your great grand parents might have had. Share a seat on a park bench and relax with someone you love. Good times!

There are some places in Chicago that are perfect to go to with anyone, for really any reason. This is one of them. If its the right season, and the fountain is on, its a beautiful sight to see the huge spouts of water with the skyline right behind it. Then, just cross the street and youre on lakeshore, or go a little further north and you walk through some of Chicagos green space and end up next to Millennium Park! 10/10 great spot to go to.

Very cool place to visit and see. Everyone I talked to before going to Chicago said its a huge fountain... And indeed it is. Not to fault the fountain by giving it 4 stars instead of 5 but there were like 4 homeless people that were very aggressive in trying to get me to buy some kind of magazine. Again the fountain was very cool, clean, and a short walk from other sights to see as well.

A great icon for the city. If your near grant or millennium park, be sure to check out buckingham fountain. Its a sad time of year when they shut it down for the winter, but a welcoming sign of spring/summer when it is turned back on. My friends and i always use it as a designated meeting spot. I especially love that its a backdrop for concerts, and the center point of lollapalooza.
