I was disappointed with this place. Initially, thought - cool - "Norfolk has its on winery!" Its essential a tasting room and wine bistro. The Name itself confused me and I was expecting something extraordinary. Yes, they do have house wines with vineyards in the Virginia region. The staff was really nice and friendly and they recommended me to a great reserve wine. The event they had a few weeks ago was appealing - $3 for glass of wine. Again, I assumed they would do house wine since its name "Mermaid Winery" - no, its other wines in which they want to sell off. My experience when going out is that I want something local. I feel like this place needs a new branding and quiet honestly better food that showcased regional Virginia food, and wine. Recap - Great location and nice seating arrangement tucked away with parking - Nice, friendly staff - Reserve Hose Wines are the way to go - Change branding/marketing. If I wanted "other" wines I could walk across the street to Total Wine & More Mermaid Winery, I hope your business does great in the future. You have a great location with potential to grow in the community. Good Luck.

I really enjoyed the peach wine that I had at the Mermaid Winery for my birthday. I returned and purchased 2 bottles to drink at home. When I opened the wine at home I was shocked to see on the cork another vineyards name. I then went on to read on the label that the East Beach Peach Wine is made at another winery in VA specifically for the Mermaid winery. However, on their website they claim that they make/produce their own wine and you can view the wine-making process from their tasting bar. I have no problem going to and purchasing wine from a "wine" bar that only sells wines produced in the VA area, but if theyre not actually producing the wines, they should not be labeled as "Mermaid Winery" wines.

I wouldve given Mermaid Winery a 4 if it werent for the horrible customer service! It truly ruined our experience! We had been shopping all day and wanted to relax and check it out. The bartender was making snide remarks to us the entire time! My friend and I split the sparkling flight, mind you its only 5-1oz. Pours. She came over and said "well that was fast" like we were a bunch of drunks. We shared another flight then each had a glass of wine. She made another comment insinuating that we were drunks. We did order the baked Brie and it was great! Needless to say, out first experience was not good! Its a winery for goodness sake, people are going to drink!!!

We went for a brunch on Sunday and the food was good and the waitress was nice and I would have given them a 4 star review until now. We had gotten some flights to taste some different wines and decided to buy one my wife really liked. It was 30 dollars. Not too expensive but we thought we were buying something nice to save for her family to try. Just found the same bottle at Farm Fresh for 8.99. I can understand bumping the price a few dollars to make some money but finding that we were just plain old ripped off really ruined the experience. Just go to Farm Fresh, its a better winery.

Went to brunch 11AM with friend and her daughter. Spoke to waitress and chef as we were being seated. Waitress very friendly however chef Thomas did not speak. We requested strawberries but were told no ala carte only with cheese and wine tray so we said ok Waitress came back and informed us Chef Thomas said no. What?? Paying customers and terrible customer service from chef Thomas. Will never return. Had been there numerous times in group 10 to 14 from work. Ordered cheese tray with no problem. Told he is a very strict chef. What exactly does that mean??

Was in the area and had a couple hours to kill while waiting for dinner plans with some friends. We stopped by here and will be coming back very soon. They had a great selection of wine AND beer. We didnt have time for dinner but plan to come back very soon. The place was about 1/2 but had a great environment. Customer service was top notch and our bartender was very knowledgeable on the different wines. She helped us pick out the perfect ones. I highly recommend this winery to anyone in the area.

We ordered our flight and it was very promptly brought out. We finished it in a few minutes and were ready to order our next flight and a cheese plate however no server was around. If it was busy I would understand however the other two tables have since left, we are the only (forgotten) table in this establishment. The server hasnt come back in 30 minutes and we finally had to find another server to bring us a check. The reviews were great however this was a genuinely disappointing experience.

My daughter and I had a wonderful lunch here. The focaccia bread was delicious. I got a Brie, Gouda, and bacon grilled cheese that was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Our waitress was really helpful and friendly. The lunch special of a sandwich and glass of wine for $7.99 cant be beat. The wine flight was a great way to try the Mermaid Winery wines. My daughter and I especially loved the outdoor garden with fruit-filled grapevines along the perimeter.

I might be bias because I didnt stay.. but Im not sure how you can call this place a winery when they dont make their own wine. Maybe this is a misconception on my part, but I love wineries and was disappointed when I went here. However, if you dont mind this-- They have a ton of varieties and the spot itself is really cool. They have a beautiful outside space. Maybe Ill have to come back during a happy hour when their overpriced imported wine isnt so overpriced.

We have been going to Mermaid since it opened two years ago. There is a reason we continue to go...it is a great place to relax and unwind. The service is good. The wine is always wonderful as well as the food. We have taken many out of town friends and they have loved it as well. I can assure you we would spend our money elsewhere if the experience was even average at the Mermaid but they have always exceeded our expectations. Give it a shot for yourself...

Absolutely terrible service. Called and made reservations and when we arrived, there was no table for us and it was our, the customers fault. Then we were informed that the kitchen was closed and only cheese and dessert was available. I have never met a more prissy, rude staff than the ones at mermaid winery. Do not recommend unless you are willing to be around a snobby staff.

Im rating based on their namesake product. The Mermaid Winery brand wine is watery and all around not the best. I like that you can do flights of other brands and styles. But I think that just shows they know how not good their own stuff is. The brunch food was good and they put on some events that look interesting.

Im a fan of the membership, $50 a month and you get $45 worth of wine, 15% off everything all the time, 50% off in house bottles of wine (not champagne or mermaid brand wines) Mon-Fri 430-630, Wed its 50% off in house bottles all night. Very cool outdoor patio too. Everyone is very nice too.
