This was our first trip to Chicago(from Arizona) and we booked several escape rooms in the Chicago area. We booked Malfunction and Sunburn at Lock Chicago on 5/24/17, which was our 46 and 47 games overall. When my family discusses escapes rooms after we play them we think of them with three aspects in mind, Setting, Gameplay, and Mechanics. As far as the setting goes, well, frankly it was a bit weak and this would be the only thing I think they could improve but we loved the rooms enough to give them both 5-star ratings. The props were ok and there was minimal clutter. In Malfunction, the booking information says it hold ups to 6. We only had 2 and we could have used more so I think they are spot on with the people requirements in that room. Sunburn is rated for up to 8 people. We did it with 2, I think you could have gotten away with 6 but 8 seems a bit much. If you love puzzles and figuring out things, these rooms are for you! We love puzzles and that is why these rooms are getting a 5-start rating. They are NOT the most immersive but are so very good puzzle wise that we have to give them major kudos for that! They didnt manage to hit any of our pet peeves(red herrings, having to guess, need for prior knowledge and lighting) in Malfunction. In Sunburn they hit only one pet peeve and that was the need to have one bit of prior knowledge for one puzzle. No lighting issue in Malfunction and while Sunburn was very dark, they provided the appropriate flashlights and such and we never had a problem with lighting. Kudos to them! Overall, we enjoyed the games a great deal. As far as the mechanics go in the room, it had a good game flow, an adequate hint system, an attentive game master, no breakdowns (Yay!), great customer service and a decent website! The owner that was there the night we played the rooms was fantastic, friendly and a sheer pleasure to talk with!

Two Girls One Room

Lock Chicago is a lot of fun! We played their two rooms, Malfunction and Sunburn, back-to-back on a Friday night and had an awesome time. The staff is friendly and the rooms are challenging in a good way. Customer service is very responsive, too. I mistakenly chose the wrong time when I booked and they corrected it for me within just a couple hours. Highly recommend them!

Venturing into the Sun Room was my first escape room experience, and I cant wait to go back for more. The puzzles were creative and challenging and kept our entire group immersed in the experience while in the room and after. The owners are passionate about what they do and are a great boost to the experience. I cant wait for Cave-In to come out!

Extremely friendly owners and staff! Girlfriend and I were visiting Northwestern and friends recommended Lock Chicago since we are escape room junkies. Very unique puzzles and rooms did the Malfunction room but cant wait to see their other escape rooms next time we visit. Highly recommend to others in the area!

My friends and I are Northwestern students in one of the graduate schools and found this to be the perfect team building activity! Half of us had done an escape room before so we felt like we knew what to expect but Lock Chicago blew us away. Well done, cant wait until they open their new room!

I tried this out with some friends and it was a blast. So immersive and interactive, even though we didnt quite finish the last challenge, I left with a grin on my face, wanting more. Lucky for me, I learned the Lock Chicago guys are already working on a second room. I cant wait.

We had a great time at Lock Chicago! This was our first escape room venture and wished I had known about them earlier. The games were challenging but made sense once you got the hang of them. Friendly staff in a great location was very easy to find. Go check them out!

A challenging puzzle thats a lot of fun! The room could use a little maintenance, though. Some elements werent quite working properly. While it wasnt enough to prevent us from solving the puzzle, it did take me out of the experience a bit.
