Visited the Ovation a while ago to see how the newly renovated theater was keeping up with the competition. Upon entering the theater is much improved. Newly added seating area and bar with a modern interior. Visually appealing.. check. Buying the ticket to the movie was a bit of an issue but not the fault of the agent. The group ahead of me couldnt make up their mind..annoying to say the least. What I did notice was only two lines to be formed not including kiosk. Not good in the event of a sudden rush. Service....eehhh could be better. The seats are amazing! Comfy and plenty of room with a sliding tray for whatever is coming next. Seat...big check. Snacks..hmm what to say about this. If you are in the middle of the movie good luck trying to read the menu to order. Its dark. Like its supposed to be. There is just a hint of light coming from the chairs and movie to help but would have been better to order OUTSIDE of the theater and bring it in yourself. Which leads me to my biggest problem with the place. You do not get any snacks yourself. They are brought to you. While you are watching the movie. This is EXTREMELY distracting if you are there to watch a movie. Either sit all the way to the wall or the first seat in the aisle because you will be interrupted CONSTANTLY by wait staff taking orders, bringing orders and then taking care of the bill. Movie experience.... horrible. This place seems to want to be one of those movie restaurants but in an actual theater. Good thoughts, horrible idea. The theater is great in itself, beautiful and comfy. The wait staff were pleasant and had no problems with rudeness or ineptitude. For me, and I stress that, its not my cup of tea. I like to watch the movie without interruptions or constant aisle chatter. I am glad I tried it but the novelty has worn off.

Movies are good, service is good, food is somewhat ok, but there is a BUT: when Carmike sold Ovation Cinemas to AMC, AMC came in and did the wrong thing. Ovations had reasonable prices, prices I would see at a restaurant and at Ovations we were treated with great respect and patience of our hosting waiters/waitresses; the movie theater also had more food on the menu, and it was great food too! Now here comes AMC and I have heard complaints from employees (who even say that the theater shouldnt be as expensive) and from other customers. When AMC bought the theater, they took the menu and cut in half and doubled the prices (it cost me $11.11 for two sodas, a Coke for me and a Sprite for my girl; oh yeah, no free refills). Buying tickets was also expensive as hell, it used to be one of the cheapest parts, and also the food was expensive as hell, usually when I go out to a restaurant on a date (and when I went to ovations) it usually costs me around $30-$35 and wed get more stuff for our money. I went to AMC theaters and it cost me the same amount of money, but what we got was much much less. Now for the Employees, the staff is great, but theres been some complaints from employees as well such as taking away discounts, putting age restrictions on servers (I could understand the bar and handling of alcoholic beverages), and even they say that cutting down the menu options and raising prices was a big mistake. Hopefully AMC isnt too busy with its head up its ass thinking the price is good. Trust me, as a young adult who can be reasonable with prices (like I find the PS4 to have a reasonable price, its a powerful console with great graphics and more advanced hardware and programming and that stuff actually costs a lot of money), the stuff that you get is not worth the price they set; its not worth the money.

This was the WORST dine-in theater service I have ever received tonight on 3/11/2017. AMC Dine-Ins are way better. Came to see Logan. The people next to us had their service light on throughout previews and the waiter finally came at THE BEGINNING where there is a lot of action, fighting, and generally loud audio so the waiter and people ordering had to speak very loud and over the audio to communicate. Okay, so once was no big deal. Food was good and settled into the movie. However, towards the end during ANOTHER huge fighting scene this waiter decided it would be opportune to come by and drop off our checks. It was very distracting. No other waiter did this. They came in during relatively quiet scenes. When the movie ended, I was quite annoyed and angry. I lodged a complaint with a manager. The manager was NOT apologetic at all and simply told me that he was just doing his job. She kept saying it wasnt intentional and that the waiter just had so many tasks that he just so happened to get to my row at inopportune times. I understand doing your job but this is a movie theater where people are paying to see movies first and foremost. You cannot disrupt the movie during climactic scenes and expect happy guests. I am upset the waiter made the same error not once but twice and was very distracting during high impact scenes. Clearly the other waiters understood when to do their jobs as I didnt see anybody else do the same thing. Ive been to AMC dine-ins and never had such a bad experience. Management at Ovation didnt seem to care that my experience was ruined by their terrible service tonight.

Ive been here four times since they renovated from the old Carmike. Each time has been a less-than-average experience (hence the 2 stars). For example, when I went to see Jurassic World, the screen was misaligned so that almost 1/4 of the movie was cut off. Several people (including myself) informed the staff during the movie, multiple times. It was acknowledged with a smile but no attempt seemed to have been made to actually fix it. Overall, I suppose the bigger attraction is supposed to be the food/atmosphere. I cant review the food because I havent ordered any, but the trays attached to the seats could be less clunky. The seats in general are overlarge and not especially comfortable. Its extremely distracting to have the staff constantly filing in and out of the theater taking orders (not quietly) and dealing with customers whose nachos didnt come with the correct sauce on the side and are therefore inedible (apparently)... especially during the tender moments of Hacksaw Ridge. Anyway, Im sure the food and drinks are good, but obviously, if you just want to see a movie, go to another theater. (Ive been to the five ((now four)) in Athens quite a lot, and I prefer University 16.) If I were to make a suggestion, itd be to just show movies where talking is perfectly acceptable. Id be happy to see something like a grindhouse movie or Zoolander for the fiftieth time here.

We mistook the movie times so we were early. Bought our tickets and left to come back. Our movie was at 9:45. We were in the theater before 9:30 and waited until 10 in front of a blank screen. I went to find someone to tear our tickets and to figure out why our movie had not started. When at the front the girls left to find a manager but did not talk to me or tell me what was going on. I went back to the theater and my friend and the movie started, no one came to talk to us or to apologize. Half way through the movie the alarm in the building went off so we exited. With this said, I am not upset the alarm went off but am upset by how it was handled. I, too, work in the service industry so I understand bumps in the road. However, we stood outside the building for ten minutes while police went in. After they left, no one told us anything happening. We were given refund tickets to use but were never explained to what had actually happened. We were expected to leave with no explanation or cause after seeing police run through the building.
