El Instituto Smithsoniano fue fundado en 1846 para el "aumento y difusión" del conocimiento con fondos legados a los Estados Unidos por el científico británico James Smithson (1765–1829), quien sin embargo nunca visitó los Estados Unidos. The cafe completely destroyed the experience for me. The castle is still a wonderful piece of history but the dining area gave me one of the worst customer service experience I have ever seen in my life. I bought two iced caffeine drinks on a hot day and was given only one straw for both of those. Not only were they around 5 dollars each (pricey), when I went back to ask for another straw for my family, they would not give me another one unless I buy another ice latte (yes I did let them know how I felt). They expected me to sip through a large gaping hole to consume my beverage...To add on, everything was self served and some coffee containers were emptied when I tried them. My experience in the castle was great until I went to this cafe at the end of the day for a cold drink. I really hope my voice get noticed about this.

Find the Hidden Gems, See the Gardens. Great Photo Spots! The stunning Smithsonian Institution Building is known as "The Castle" and is at the heart of the many museums that make up the Smithsonian. The Visitor Information Center staff will help you find everything from the Hope Diamond, art, natural history, and science interests. This beautiful building on the National Mall has a gift shop, exhibits information, a cafeteria, and even a crypt on display. The Castle is just next door to the National Air And Space Museum, but it is the beautiful gardens just outside that are perfect for photos. There is no parking so consider the Circulator Bus, Subway, or Uber. The Metro Subway has a stop right here, the Smithsonian Station. American history come alive at the Smithsonian.

In mezzo a tanti palazzoni bianchi con enormi colonne di marmo spunta questo "castello" in mattoni rossi in stile romanico che attira subito lattenzione. Contiene gli uffici dello Smithsonian Institute e un centro informazioni ma è comunque molto interessante da visitare e ha un parco sul retro ben curato dove è possibile riposarsi dalle passeggiate sul Mall.

Es un lugar muy interesante que visitar, el jardín es hermoso. Los edificios de la parte de atrás que se unen subterraneamente no sugiero visitarlos en fines de semana o días festivos, es cerrado y hay mucha gente ese día incluso me sentí algo enferma. Pero el recorrido es impresionante.

Hermosos paseo. Edificaciones amplias y bonitas muy bien mantenidas, espacios verdes y recreativos. El complejo de museos es digno de ser visitado. En Este edificio, puntualmente, se puede comer a buen precio una comida simple y rápida.

This truly is a great way to start your visit to see any of the museums, especially if you arent sure where to start first. I would also recommend catching a tour. Its not very long and is really interesting. There were a lot of things I didnt know at all about the Smithsonian and it was quite a fascinating story. After the tour, you can look at small collections from each museum and your guide will also give you advice on what to check out first if you still arent sure.

I love the castle! Its as if you had a very rich great aunt who spent her life traveling and collecting and put all of her stuff in the attic, so when you walk in you never know what youll find. Somehow people seem to overlook it, which is a shame. The building itself is wonderful, the collection is a hodgepodge of amazing pieces of history, plus theres a garden out back

Loved the castle! Inside was beautiful, and the garden was magical! This was my first time in the castle, I always underestimated it, dont miss it! I was in love with a 13th century tile from Iran. They also have on display a piece of wreckage from the Hindenburg. Take 30 minutes to walk through!

Personally think the exhibition could be better. But it surely served the purpose of explaining how Smithsonian was formed and developed throughout the years. Whats more interesting is the garden. It has some of the rarest flowers and plants from around all over the world. Check out the photos~

The Smithsonian Castle gardens are beautiful to wander around during all seasons. The staff do an amazing job of keeping the grounds pristine and well-manicured, and it seems like there is always something blooming. The benches are great for having lunch or reading a book in relative peace.

Just love the Smithsonian museums great place to relax, learn and specially to take your kid so he can learn a lot. I will never get tired of these museums. If you wanna go, it is better if you take the metro since parking is really hard to find and if you do it is expensive!!!

Amazing. Drove from Canada and it was worth it. The museum of aerospace was unbelievable. The American Indian museum was extremely respectful. It was the first museum Ive ever been to that treated Native culture like it was something still alive and growing.

If you are in DC you cant miss the Smithsonian..it actualy consists of a number of museums. Lots of very interesting things to do here .. we spent a whole day going from on museum to museum. Plan to spend at least 6 to 7 hrs here...Jason

Its a nice place to recharge yourself especially on a hot day. Theres a little cafe that also serves wine and specialty coffee, with really wonderful staff. The Smithsonian Castle is a great resource about the Smithsonian museums.

Never disappointing. You can walk through this place ten times and read/see something new every time. Qrius exhibit awesome for kids where they can interact with the artifacts. Always crowded but doesnt prevent a good time.

There was basically one or two items from all the larger collections you would see in the specialized museums. It was worth it being that it was way too get in and out. Didnt need to sirens a long time and saw it all.

After donating to the museum, we received a bag with Smithsonian written on the front. However, on the package is clearly written: MADE IN CHINA. Why? I am most unhappy about this! Come on, made in the USA please!
